  1. After leading 2-1 since the 4th inning, Justin Yeager unfortunately couldn’t close it for Biloxi, allowing a 3-run homer with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning. He was ahead 0-1 to that batter and 0-2 to the prior hitter (singled). Yoho and Holub are the true shut down guys, but Yeager can normally be counted on - he drops to 7-for-9 in save opportunities. Solid work by Shane Smith, Bo Bowman, Sam Carlson and Justin King over 8 innings: 1 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 8 Ks CF Carlos D. Rodriguez tripled in a run and scored in the 4th inning to give Biloxi the 2-1 advantage which nearly held up.
  2. Should the organization go ahead and make Gregory Barrios the 2nd-youngest player in the Southern League? I’m sure that’s what they’re contemplating and perhaps struggling with as they consider whether to promote Cooper Pratt to High-A.
  3. Thorough shellacking in Wisconsin’s 10-1 victory: - Scored each of first 4 innings for 10-0 lead, with all 9 players reaching base in the game, 8 via hit - Will Rudy went 5 innings strong, issuing no walks or HBPs and only 4 hits (HR, outfield single, 2 infield singles) - 4 doubles and 4-for-4 on SB attempts - Luke Adams reached base 4 times (1B, 3 BB), Gregory Barrios had 3 hits (and an SB) and Jheremy Vargas 3 RBIs and 2 SBs
  4. 4 shutout innings from Bishop Letson. 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts (led by Yhoswar Garcia and Daniel Guilarte who combined for 6!), while C David Garcia threw out both attempted stealers for the Hillcats. Yhoswar reached base 3 times (2B, 1B, HBP) and the team survived a Harrison Durow special (3 ER, 4 runners stranded in 2 IP). Congrats to Tyler Bryant on the 2-inning save.
  5. After taking the opening game of today's doubleheader to even their home series against South Bend 2-2, High-A Wisconsin sends 20-year old RHP Yujanyer Herrera (3.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 53 IP) to the mound for Game 2. Hall, Valerio and Rodriguez enter for Lara, Wood and Vargas. 1 - Barrios - SS 2 - Areinamo - 2B 3 - Garcia - CF 4 - Adams - 3B 5 - Hall - 1B 6 - Valerio - LF 7 - Chirinos - DH 8 - Rodriguez - C 9 - Fernandez - RF X - Herrera - P
  6. DH/INF Mike Boeve returns and RHP Shane Smith (3.14 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 in 48.2 IP) is on the hill as AA Biloxi aims to clinch a home series win over Pensacola.
  7. LHP DL Hall is making his 6th rehab start for AAA Nashville, though he pitched 4 days ago. The Sounds are tied 2-2 in their series at Jacksonville. DH/OF Garrett Mitchell is still with the team on the final day of his rehab month.
  8. Mike Boeve’s obviously back after a 9-day absence:
  9. High-A Wisconsin trails South Bend 2 games to 1 at home, but can flip the script in today’s doubleheader. RHP Will Rudy (5.68 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 52.1 IP) starts the first game and DH/INF Jadher Areinamo comes in with an 11-game hitting streak.
  10. 19-year old RHP Bishop Letson (3.71 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 34 IP) gets his first game action in 19 days and C David Garcia is also back after exiting an inning early Thursday night, as Low-A Carolina seeks to grab a 3-2 home series lead over Lynchburg. SS Cooper Pratt has his safely in 19 of 20 games.
  11. C Edgardo Ordonez just hit his 7th homer of 2024 in the ACL. That should ordinarily garner a promotion, but his defensive stats have gone from solid to awful (errors, passed balls, low CS ratio).
  12. Darrien Miller hit his first homer since July 23 last year, a 2-run contribution to push the Shuckers lead to 7-2. Miller is 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, needing a triple for the cycle.
  13. RHP Easton McGee is making his 2nd rehab start for the ACL Brewers. This is encouraging, as it appears the rehab appearances of LHP Brandon Knarr and INF Christian Arroyo have been put on hold.
  14. The Mudcats followed up their 2-run 6th inning with 3 more in the 7th: an HBP, 3 singles and 2 sac flies did the trick to grab a 5-2 lead. 4 different Mudcats have an RBI, led by Miguel Briceno (2-for-4). RHP Jeison Pena then scared everyone by giving up a double and a walk, but he produced a great escape (GIDP, ground out). They’re thru 8 innings.
  15. Vinny Capra is 3-for-3 with 2 doubles. Joey Wiemer is 0-for-3 with 3 Ks. Just as we all predicted at this juncture. Sounds lead 5-2 in the 5th inning. Everyone in the lineup has a hit already, except Joey.
  16. Zavier Warren continued his solid form with a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning, with RF Carlos D. Rodriguez following a few batters later with a 2-run double. Shuckers 4, Blue Wahoos 2 in the 5th inning.
  17. Nice full-count, 2-out AB by Wes Clarke, hitting one 101.8mph to left to drive in Vinny Capra (who’d singled). Sounds 3, Jumbo Shrimp 2 in the 4th inning.
  18. At least it’s been mainly soft contact off of Aaron Ashby thus far, producing 1 earned and 1 unearned run. Brewer Hicklen hit one 370 the other way for his 13th homer, while Isaac Collins doubled and scored. Joey Wiemer was up twice in opportunistic situations and K’d both times (Capra on 2nd with 0 outs; bases loaded 2 outs).
  19. 22-year old Logan Henderson seeks his 4th Win in his 4th AA start, as Biloxi aims for a 3-1 home series lead over Pensacola. Mike Boeve is still absent from the lineup, but 3B Zavier Warren has a 5-game hitting streak with 4 XBHs and 9 RBIs.
  20. Rivero didn’t make it thru one inning, adding 3 walks after the HBP. He did record 2 outs, then Morris Austin induced a fly out to limit the damage to one run. Carolina is down 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning.
  21. Miguel Briceno collected Carolina's 2nd hit and stole 2nd, followed by an error and a walk but Di Turi flied out. Still down 1-0 thru 5 innings. Enigmatic RHP Jesus Rivero has entered for Knoth, hitting the 1st batter he faced.
  22. Knoth is dominating again, though conceded an EBJ/Yhoswar-type run: infield single, 2 SBs, sac fly. Mudcats trail 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th. Blayberg is the only Carolina player to reach base thus far.
  23. 23-year old RHP Will Rudy (5.68 ERA in 52.1) has had a challenging 2+ months for High-A Wisconsin, who need a home victory over pitiful South Bend to knot their series 2-2. C Matt Wood has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games.
  24. AAA Nashville have dropped 9 of 13 games and now look to LHP Aaron Ashby (7 ER in 3.2 IP last week) to lead them to a 2-2 series tie at Jacksonville. Hopefully Garrett Mitchell is healthy and headed back to the Big Club.
  25. SS Cooper Pratt returns after missing 2 games and 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth (5.2 scoreless IP with 7 Ks last week) gets the start, as Low-A Carolina seeks a home win over Lynchburg to even the series 2-2.
