  1. KC Hunt gives up his first run (HBP, double) in 17.1 IP this season. It's tight - Mudcats lead 3-2 after 5 innings.
  2. Timmerman has thrown 71 pitches through 4 innings (1 ER), so it may be time for the pen. A Nicasia solo homer and 2 RBI singles (after Briceno doubled) have the Mudcats ahead 3-1.
  3. We’ve still got the Low-A Mudcats, who can earn a road series win in Fayetteville with a victory behind RHP Josh Timmerman (4.70 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 12.9 K/9 in 15.1 IP) tonight. 2B Daniel Guilarte has a 9-game hitting streak and C Victor Torres makes his first start.
  4. Through 8 innings, the Shuckers have been utterly dominated. More errors (2) than baserunners (a single, no walks). 0-for-6 throwing out opposing basestealers. We've K'd 13 times. Down 7-0.
  5. Sounds hit 4 homers and led 7-3 after 6 innings, but credit the Bulls for the home comeback. Hicklen will wish he'd done better with that 9th inning slider (got under it for the 2nd out). 3-3 split in Durham.
  6. There's clearly an intention to work Shane Smith as a multi-inning guy. He surpasses 40 pitches for his 3rd straight outing.
  7. It's up to Capra, Black and Hicklen to lead the 9th inning road comeback.
  8. Ian Seymour mercifully exits after 5 perfect innings against Biloxi, as Montgomery brings in old friend Evan Reifert (traded for Mike Brosseau in Nov 2021; dealt with injuries most of 2023).
  9. Edwin Jimenez 5 shutout innings. Ramon Rodriguez 2 homers. That'll play. Wisconsin 5, Quad Cities 0 thus far.
  10. It must be part of the process: seeing how pitchers handle fatigue. It’s often maddening, since you end up conceding runs without recording outs sometimes, but it’s all part of it. Not just trying to win every game.
  11. TJ Shook was cruising along pretty well: 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 unearned run through 4 innings. But it comes apart a bit in the 5th inning: walk, single, single. Shane Smith comes in. Shuckers are hitless and trail 2-0, but more runs may come in here.
  12. Ashby gets Brandon Lowe to chase two pitches low and outside for a strikeout, so now exits at 81 pitches for Ryan Middendorf. Bases loaded, 1 out.
  13. It’s the 7th inning. You have a day off tomorrow. Aaron Ashby had given a nice 5 frames. Sure, he was only at about 68 pitches, but can’t we let him have one good day? 😢 He goes out for an extra frame: single, single, walk, mound visit, still staying in. Sounds 7, Bulls 3, but there’s trouble.
  14. Rays’ #19 prospect LHP Ian Seymour has been mowing down the Shuckers, retiring the first 12 batters including Ks of 4 of the first 7 he faced. An unearned run has Biloxi behind Montgomery 1-0.
  15. Noah Campbell hit one 421 feet for another 2 runs for Nashville. They now lead 7-3 in the 6th inning.
  16. Clarke pitched just 1 inning (4 batters, 11 pitches), so it is indeed LHP Aaron Ashby who’ll get the lion’s share of the work today, 5 days after his last start. Hitters challenged 4 strike 3 calls in the first 4 innings and were denied each time. The home plate ump will be feeling great. Nashville leads 3 (Miller, Collins, Kahle) homers to 1, and by a score of 4-2.
  17. The Adam Seminaris injury has reduced Biloxi to 5 long men, while the Yujanyer Herrera promotion and (hopeful) return of Logan Henderson has Wisconsin at 8-9 long men. Someone’s likely moving up to Biloxi, but it’s not crystal clear who. Mark Manfredi’s the oldest and gets the most Ks, but has limited experience. Brian Fitzpatrick is next-oldest, with the best K/BB ratio, but has limited High-A innings. Edwin Jimenez has been in High-A the longest. Alexander Cornielle is coming around nicely.
  18. Workhorse RHP TJ Shook (3.34 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 29,2 IP) makes his 3rd start in 11 days, aiming to lead AA Biloxi to a home series win over Montgomery. 3B/1B Mike Boeve has hit safely in 12 of 13 games, while 1B/CF Ernesto Martinez remains absent after leaving Friday’s game early.
  19. The High-A Timber Rattlers also have a chance for a 4-2 series win at Quad Cities. RHP Edwin Jimenez (5.74 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 6.1 K/9 in 26.2 IP) makes his 6th start. Can 2B Dylan O’Rae triple for a 3rd straight day?
  20. AAA Nashville gets a second chance to clinch a 4-2 series win in Durham, with rehabbing RHP Taylor Clarke making his first appearance since March 17 (spring training). 1B Tyler Black (.905 OPS in 123 PAs) returns to the lineup and the field 2 days after fouling a ball off his foot.
  21. - RHP Taylor Clarke sent on rehab assignment to AAA Nashville
  22. - RHP Kevin Herget optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers
  23. Time will tell whether INF Johan Barrios’ 9th inning stint on the mound in ACL Brewers’ blowout loss (16-4) signals a shift toward two-way play or was simply mop-up duty to preserve arms. The $1.385 million 2022 signee only has 9 PAs through 6 ACL games.
  24. Low-A Carolina needs to punch back at Fayetteville to gain a 3-2 series lead, sending intriguing 21-year old RHP Yorman Galindez (2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 16.1 K/9 in 15.2 IP) out for his 6th start of 2024. Reece Walling makes his first minor league start at first base since joining the organization in 2022.
  25. The High-A Timber Rattlers are tied 2-2 in this week’s series at Quad Cities and have RHP Alexander Cornielle looking to duplicate his superb last outing (6 IP, 0 ER, 6 Ks). CF Luis Lara has a 16-game on-base streak.
