Fri. 9/19: Cargo Nets a Win Tonight?
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
It was a rather inefficient outing for CF-Rod (90 pitches, 53 strikes, 3 runs in 5 innings), but the Sounds’ bats (12 hits, 5 walks) and feet (8-for-8 on stolen base attempts) were relentless in their 6-4 victory. Ethan Murray got his first career action playing first base, then ended up being involved in 4 of Nashville’s 6 runs: - grounder which scored 2 unearned runs on an error for a 3-2 lead with 2 outs in the 3rd inning - 2-out, 2-run single to grab a 5-3 lead in the 7th inning Blake Holub and Brian Fitzpatrick combined to cover 3 scoreless innings of relief before Julian Merryweather made things interesting in the 9th, stranding the potential game-tying runners in scoring position. Jared Oliva, Anthony Seigler and Luis Urias each had 2 hits, with Oliva stealing 4! bases to give him 57! on the season. -

AAA Nashville’s terrific 83-62 season continues as they seek a 3-1 series lead at Louisville behind 23-year old RHP Carlos Rodriguez (5 IP, 1 R, 5 Ks last week). CF Brandon Lockridge is hitting .340 in 11 September games. -
I don’t know how much managing wiggle room they really get (probably not much), but I’d suspect the main “what ifs” running through Manager Ayrault’s mind after that tough loss are: 1) Whether he could/should have sent out Abdiel Mendoza for the 8th inning. After a blow-up on May 14, Mendoza tossed 11.2 scoreless innings against Montgomery the rest of the year. 2) Whether he should have had Eduardo Garcia bat instead of Restituyo with 2-on, 2-out in the 8th inning. They were facing a lefty or else Matt Wood would have been the obvious choice.

I’d meant to include @ARobsBrewCrew’s update on Ernesto Martinez Jr.: ”Ernesto Martinez’ 2025 MiLB season is over. He was placed on the Development List earlier this week and is no longer in the states as he will be playing for the French Men’s Senior Team competing for the Baseball European Championship. Colin Walsh (Ireland) and Noah Zavolas (Greece) are also set to compete.” If that’s the last we see of free-agent-to-be EMJ in a Sounds’ uniform, he finished on an 8-game hitting streak and with a .890 OPS over his final 69 PAs.

Transactions: LHP Nate Peterson activated by AAA Nashville from Development List RHP Garrett Stallings placed on Development List by AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 15, Louisville 4 Box Score and Game Log Via a Sounds’ press release, game details: Sounds Pile up Season-High 18 Hits in Win over Bats After just 13 Sounds’ batters had come to the plate, Nashville had already raced out to an 8-0 lead in the 2nd inning, scorching the Louisville Bats to grab a 2-1 road series lead. OF Daz Cameron (2-for-5, walk, RBI) got it all started with a first pitch, 101.7mph double to open the game, while OF Brandon Lockridge (4-for-5, walk, 4 RBIs, SB) delivered a 105.8mph RBI single and a 102.5mph bases-clearing double within the first two frames. DH Jeferson Quero’s 105.3mph, 3-run dinger completed the early barrage in support of starting LHP Tucker Davidson (5 IP, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks), who can be forgiven for losing his edge for one inning (3-run 2nd frame) while holding such a big lead. Quero went 2-for-4 with 2 walks and 3 RBIs in the contest. Every Nashville batter collected at least one hit, with 8 of the batters driving in runs in a fun evening at the park, highlighted by 3B Anthony Seigler’s 107.9mph, 426-foot 2-run blast in the 4th inning. Sounds’ Extras: C Eric Haase doubled home 2 runs in the 5th inning to extend the advantage to 14-3 by that point, part of a 3-for-6 evening for him. 40-man MLB roster men RHP Easton McGee and Craig Yoho stayed fresh by covering one scoreless inning each, along with LHP Nate Peterson. Next week’s outlook: RHP Carlos Rodriguez (5 IP, 1 R, 5 Ks last week) is scheduled for his 2nd start since being optioned back to AAA, with Nashville aiming for a 3-1 series advantage. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Montgomery 4, Biloxi 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Shuckers Eliminated from 2025 Playoffs in Game Two Loss Against Montgomery A truly dramatic playoff game from start to finish saw both starting pitchers dance around traffic in the early innings before 2B Jesus Made (2-for-5) blasted his first AA homer (3rd inning solo shot) and SS Cooper Pratt (2-for-4) doubled and scored on a 1B Blake Burke (2-for-4) single in the 6th inning for a 2-0 lead. While Shuckers’ RHP Jaron DeBerry minimized hard contact and received strong defensive support over 5 2/3 scoreless innings (5 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 Ks), his counterpart TJ Nichols relied more on strikeouts (5 1/3 IP, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 Ks), including six consecutive Ks at one point. After the teams combined to strand 5 baserunners in the bottom of the 6th and top of the 7th innings, old friend Jadher Areinamo drew an inning-opening walk against RHP Austin Roberts, who then conceded a game-tying 2-run homer. A few batters later, old friend Gregory Barrios reached on a rare error by Pratt, ultimately allowing 2 unearned runs to cross. 2-out walks by 3B Luke Adams and C Darrien Miller gave Biloxi its last real chance in the 8th inning, but an OF Bladimir Restituyo pop-out dashed that hope. Shuckers’ Extras: Pratt’s return to action was a very welcome sight after he’d exited his last game with a hand injury 8 days earlier. RHP Abdiel Mendoza did well to strike out Brayden Taylor in relief of DeBerry to strand two baserunners before working around a walk and single in the 7th frame, covering 1 1/3 innings in just 22 pitches. RHP Travis MacGregor also covered 1 1/3 scoreless innings to give the Biloxi offense a chance to come back. We’d like to give a huge thank you to Biloxi’s management and administrators, particularly Javik Blake and the media team. This was a successful season in so many respects and you did exceptionally well to cover it all. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Is RF Brandon Lockridge auditioning for a spot on the MLB playoff roster (9 hits, 3 SBs in last 6 games)? What about 3B Anthony Seigler (7-for-17 with 4 doubles since return to Nashville)? The AAA Sounds aim to grab a 2-1 series lead at Louisville behind effective 29-year old LHP Tucker Davidson (15.2 IP, 2 R, 15 Ks over last 3 games).

SS Cooper Pratt (.691 OPS with 31 SBs) returns from a hand injury for his first action in 8 days, as the AA Biloxi Shuckers face the prospect of playoff elimination or a series-tying win at home against RHP TJ Nichols (2.90 ERA with 156 Ks in 133.2 IP) and the Montgomery Biscuits. RHP Jaron DeBerry (4.38 ERA with 102 Ks in 100.2 IP) gets the start in Game 2, with C Darrien Miller behind the plate.

Free-agent-to-be RHP Garrett Stallings (17 IP, 4 R, 10 Ks over last 3 starts) aims to turn the tide in Louisville to lead AAA Nashville back to a 1-1 series tie. SS Freddy Zamora has an .815 OPS over his last 82 PAs, with a 13 BB / 13 K ratio. -
The AA Biloxi Shuckers’ Game 1 lineup for their best-of-three Southern League Division Series has big bashers 1B Blake Burke (11 HR in 37 AA games) and DH Brock Wilken (18 HR in 79 AA games) hitting 3rd and 4th, while the middle infield comprises SS Jesus Made and 2B Eduardo Garcia. RHP Brett Wichrowski (3.44 ERA with 72 Ks in 99.1 IP) gets the start at Rays’ affiliate Montgomery, who counter with RHP Brody Hopkins (2.72 ERA with 141 Ks in 116 IP).
-
Purely speculating, but Montgomery’s opposing starters will likely be: - RHP Brody Hopkins - Rays’ #3 prospect (1.16 ERA with 39 Ks in 31 IP in last 6 starts) - RHP TJ Nichols - Rays’ #20 prospect (0.97 ERA with 37 Ks in 37 IP in last 6 starts) - RHP Ty Johnson - Rays’ #19 prospect (2.67 ERA with 39 Ks in 30.1 IP in last 6 starts) UPDATE: MILB.com now indeed reflects these as Montgomery’s scheduled starters for the series.

From CFR.ORG: “Repealing [the Jones Act] could create more than thirteen thousand jobs and inject $1.5 billion into the economy, one 2019 study found, while more recent research has purported that the act imposes an annual welfare burden of $1.4 billion on Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, some experts say that tax changes, including partially resurrecting Section 936, could revive the island’s once-thriving pharmaceutical sector, stimulate the territory’s economy, and reduce U.S. dependence on international drug suppliers.”

For the week, Nashville was a 5-1 series winner over Gwinnett and Biloxi captured their final series of the regular season 4 games to 2 at Birmingham. Transactions: RHP Manuel Rodriguez promoted to AA Biloxi from High-A Wisconsin RHP Stiven Cruz assigned to High-A Wisconsin from AA Biloxi Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 7, Gwinnett 2 Box Score and Game Log Via a Sounds’ press release, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Dunn's Grand Slam Hoists Sounds Over Stripers in Final Home Game of the Year Although they’d already captured the series over Gwinnett with Saturday’s victory and LHP Bruce Zimmermann was starting on 4 days’ rest, Zimmermann and his teammates stepped out to trounce the Stripers in front of 7,549 Nashville fans enjoying their last home game of the 2025 campaign. As Zimmermann cruised through 5 uber-efficient innings (1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks in just 51 pitches), C Jeferson Quero was the first Sounds’ batter to reach base with a walk to leadoff the bottom of the 2nd inning, culminating in DH Oliver Dunn’s 104.7mph, 378-foot grand slam. Seeing rare action at first base in this game, INF Raynel Delgado is only 25 years old and potentially earned himself a Major League contract this winter with his terrific last 54 games: .900 OPS in 203 plate appearances with 5 homers and 18 stolen bases: Sounds’ Extras: LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (3-up, 3-down 6th inning), RHP Blake Holub (scoreless 7th inning) and Easton McGee all did their parts to keep Gwinnett’s bats quiet. With his 10-pitch, 3-strike out swinging 9th inning (peak velocity 93.7mph), McGee served notice that he’s ready to contribute in the MLB playoffs if called upon. Each of Dunn (2-for-3, HR walk, 4 RBIs), Delgado (1-for-2, walk, HBP, 2 RBIs, SB) and 2B Anthony Seigler (3-for-4, double, RBI) reached base 3 times, while OF Tyler Black also had 2 singles and 2 stolen bases. Next week’s outlook: Nashville’s final series of the 2025 campaign takes them to Louisville to battle the Reds’ affiliate, with RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.81 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 127 2/3 IP) scheduled to make his second AAA start in Tuesday’s series opener. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 3, Birmingham 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Late Heroics Lift Shuckers to Comeback Win in Regular Season Finale Through 8 innings, the Shuckers had managed to produce only two singles, the first of which (by OF Bladimir Restituyo in the 3rd inning) was eliminated by a pick-off and the second (by 2B Eduardo Garcia in the 8th inning) was erased by a ground ball double play, unknowingly setting the stage for Biloxi’s 9th inning comeback. Long before the comeback, starting RHP Manuel Rodriguez became the youngest pitcher (20 years, 37 days) in Biloxi franchise history (i.e. since 2015), impressing over 6 innings (2 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks in 67 pitches) while helping the Shuckers preserve arms for their upcoming playoff series. Birmingham manufactured a run in the 4th inning (HBP, SB, RBI ground out) and knocked a solo homer in Rodriguez’s final frame. 1B Luke Adams’ leadoff single in the 9th inning ignited the comeback, followed by DH Mike Boeve’s 1-out single and late-game substitute C Darrien Miller’s game-tying hit with the team down to its final strike. Of course, OF Garrett Spain joined the party to give Biloxi the only lead they’d require as they clinched the series in front of 1,998 shocked road fans. Excellent job by LHP Raul Alcantara (1 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) and RHP Austin Roberts (2 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) to lock down the final 3 innings, with Roberts striking out the final two batters to strand the potential game-tying runner at second base. Shuckers’ Extras: Something of a master of control (88 Ks, 15 BB, 2 HBP in 89 2/3 IP this season), Rodriguez will likely be hoping to add some velocity this offseason to make himself a Rule 5 selection target in December 2026. Red-hot 1B Blake Burke and always-reliable OF Luis Lara rested on Sunday, while we’ve not gotten any word on SS Cooper Pratt’s health since exiting Wednesday’s game early. C Matt Wood departed this victory after 7 innings, though my colleague @Joseph Zarr thankfully didn’t note anything abnormal as Wood walked off the field after walking and being stranded in the 7th inning. SS Jesus Made had a rare 0-for-4, 2 K game, while OF Eric Brown Jr. went 0-for-3 while hitting into two ground ball double plays. The team will be counting on Made to come through in the playoffs, while it faces a difficult decision on the second base job (assuming Pratt remains out). Next week’s outlook: The Shuckers’ best-of-3 playoff semifinal commences on Tuesday in Montgomery (6:35pm CST) before the teams return to Biloxi for games on Thursday and (if necessary) Friday. Expect RHP Brett Wichrowski (3.44 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 6.5 K/9 in 99 1/3 IP) to start the series opener. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Sun. 9/13: "Bruce Almighty" as Z Toils for the Sounds
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
AAA Nashville’s last home game of 2025 has the squad aiming to polish off a 5-1 home series win over Gwinnett. RF Daz Cameron comes in with a 15-game on-base streak, while LHP Bruce Zimmermann makes his 2nd start of the week (6 IP, 1 R, 3 Ks in Tuesday’s Win). -

Yeah, and 2 GIDPs in this game for EBJ. I figure we'll go with a middle infield of Made and Eduardo Garcia on Tuesday and an outfield of Warren, Lara and Spain. Boeve odd man out of corner infield/DH mix. But let's see, especially after what happened with Miguel Briceno last playoffs... -

And close it out he did, striking out the final 2 batters to strand a baserunner at 2nd. Biloxi wins the game 3-2 and the series in Birmingham 4 games to 2. Hopefully this momentum carries into the 3-game playoff semifinal against Montgomery. -

Adams, Boeve, Miller and Spain all single in the 9th inning and Biloxi pushes 3 runs across for a 3-2 lead! Miller, who entered in the bottom of the 7th (hope Wood is fine), delivered an RBI single to tie the game with 2 outs, while Spain put us in the lead 3-2. Austin Roberts will try to close it out.
