Transactions: RHP Ryan Middendorf released by AA Biloxi Game Action: Final: Nashville 8, Louisville 7 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Delgado's RBI Single Propels Sounds to Back-and-Forth Win Over Bats What an entertaining game this was for the players and 6,438 home fans, with dramatic lead changes in each of the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. C Jorge Alfaro (2-for-3, HR, HBP, 2 RBIs, SB) smacked a 111.7mph single to lead off the 3rd inning, but Nashville failed to score and trailed 3-0 when he came up again in the bottom of the 5th inning, depositing this one 454 feet for a 2-run shot: Following Alfaro’s blast, the next four Sounds reached base via walk or hit, with OF Tyler Black (2-for-4, walk, RBI, SB) putting the team in front: RHP Garrett Stallings (5 IP, 6 R, 3 Ks) allowed 5 hits and 3 runs early before retiring 11 batters in a row to get through 5 innings. He then promptly ran out of gas, allowing 4 consecutive hits to open the 6th inning as Nashville found itself behind again at 6-5. A crazy bottom of the 7th inning saw Nashville nearly squander an inning-opening Black walk and DH Jeferson Quero double (2-for-4, RBI), as SS Oliver Dunn’s 105.1mph grounder to short resulted in a 6-3-2 double play. Thankfully, OF Daz Cameron and red-hot Raynel Delgado (2-for-3, triple, RBI, SB) followed with clutch 2-out singles: Sounds’ Extras: Big kudos to the bullpen of RHP Justin Yeager, rehabbing LHP Rob Zastryzny, RHP Easton McGee and RHP Joel Payamps for combining on 4 innings of 1-run base in this back-and-forth contest. Payamps (94.6mph peak velocity) registered his 5th AAA save of 2025 with 2 strikeouts in a 3-up, 3-down 9th inning. Six different Sounds’ players each stole one base to please the home crowd, including 2B Ethan Murray (1-for-3, walk, RBI, SB) and pinch runner Jared Oliva (40th swipe of 2025). Neither rehabbing Jake Bauers nor SS Freddy Zamora were in the lineup, with some speculating that they may be needed in Milwaukee to replace the injured Joey Ortiz (more news pending). Friday’s outlook: Nashville aims to clinch a series victory, with LHP Josh Maciejewski and RHP Abdiel Mendoza likely to tag-team as innings-eaters. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Rainout: Chattanooga at Biloxi Via the Shuckers’ website, rainout details: Shuckers, Lookouts Postponed on Thursday After consecutive home losses with starting pitchers throwing on 4 days’ rest, perhaps this unscheduled off day will help the team re-set before Friday’s doubleheader. Friday’s outlook: RHP Brett Wichrowski (3.45 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 78 1/3 IP) is expected to start at least one of the contests, though the other starter has yet to be named. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 6, Beloit 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Big Late Hits Lead Rattlers to Win Despite 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position over the first 6 innings, Wisconsin had only plated 1 run OF Kay-Lan Nicasia’s RBI double) to that point, so it fell to 1B Tayden Hall and C Blayberg Diaz (1-for-3, HBP, 2 RBIs) to make something happen with 1-on and 2 outs, down 2-1 in the top of the 8th inning. Walk-master Hall (.162 average, .347 OBP) drew a full count walk before Diaz’s clutch double to the opposite field on a 1-2 pitch: The linked game reports includes many additional game details and video highlights, while @biedergb in our Minor League Forum also explained how LHP Anthony Flores escaped a self-induced jam while leading 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning: “That's some Houdini right there. Walks (and HBP) the bases loaded. Then gets a huge strike out looking - fastball right down the middle. Next batter - grounder right to Fischer, to SS Made to first and it’s an inning ending double play. Just a routine 5-6-3 DP right?” Starting RHP Tanner Gillis once again delivered a solid performance: 6 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks in 80 pitches and now sports an ERA of 2.20 in his first Minor League campaign. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Well done to RHPs Miles Langhorne (1 K) and Aaron Rund (1 K) on a scoreless inning of 3-up, 3-down relief for each. The teams exchanged outfield assists at home in the 3rd inning, with OF Luiyin Alastre helping out his starting pitcher. Every starting Wisconsin position player reached base via hit or walk, while OF Daniel Guilarte also came through with a 2-run single off the bench. Friday’s outlook: RHP Ryan Birchard had a tough luck loss last week (5 1/3 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks) and seeks to lead Wisconsin to a 3-1 series lead. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Rainout: Carolina at Salem (suspended in bottom of 1st inning) Via the Mudcats’ website, rainout details: Mudcats and Salem Suspended Thursday Rains won out after a 3-up, 3-down top of the first inning for the Mudcats, but thankfully scheduled starting LHP Wande Torres didn’t throw any pitches. It was also good to see OF Tyler Rodriguez back in the starting lineup for the first time in 6 days. A victory elsewhere by Fredericksburg means that Carolina and the Nationals are now tied in the Carolina League North second half standings, so the Mudcats need to pick up the winning pace. Friday’s outlook: Torres (5.28 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 73 1/3 IP) should start one of the doubleheader games, while 18-year old RHP Ethan Dorchies (2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 38 Low-A IP) is also scheduled to start. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, six Minor League affiliate games are on top, starting with the Mudcats resuming Thursday’s suspended game at 4:30pm. The Milwaukee Brewers also return home to battle the Giants at 7:10pm. Thurs. 8/21 - No Big-League Game to Tempt Us Tonight
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Quite the back-and-forth game in Nashville. Stallings conceded 3 runs early, Alfaro hit one 454 feet to spark a 5-run 5th inning. However, Stallings allowed 4 consecutive hits to start the 6th inning, putting Nashville behind again 6-5. Delgado tripled and scored in the bottom half of the inning, but then Zastryzny conceded a triple and a run in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, Black walked, Quero doubled to opposite field, then Dunn hit a 105.1mph grounder to short...which resulted in a 6-3-2 double play. Ugh. But Daz hit the next pitch 110.3mph into center field to tie it. Then Delgado took strike 3, but it was called a ball and followed with a 104.7mph run-scoring single. 8-7 Sounds thru 7 innings. Easton McGee is pitching. -

RHP Brett Wichrowski tossed 7 innings on Saturday (3 R, 4 Ks) and aims to help AA Biloxi avoid a 3-0 series deficit at home against Chattanooga. SS Cooper Pratt has a 7-game hitting streak and has lifted his season OPS to .713 (vs. league average .661). -

The AAA Sounds can take a 3-0 home series lead over Louisville behind RHP Garrett Stallings, who had a bounceback outing last week (5 IP, 2 R, 6 Ks). 3B Raynel Delgado has homered in 3 of his last 4 games and has an .872 OPS over his last 137 PAs. -

The Low-A Mudcats have a 0.5 game second half division lead over Fredericksburg, so need to keep winning. LHP Wande Torres (5.28 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 73.1 IP) starts and RF Tyler Rodriguez returns (first game in 6 days - .655 OPS), targeting a 2-1 series lead at Salem. -

Transactions: OF Steward Berroa optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers RHP Bishop Letson activated from High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list RHP Michael Fowler assigned to AAA Nashville from Low-A Carolina Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Durham 8, Nashville 4 Box Score and Game Log Cameron Drills Two-Run Shot, Sounds Fall in Series Finale to Bulls - The Sounds’ battled valiantly to lead most of the game, but ultimately ran out of pitchers while leading 4-3 in the 8th inning at Durham. Starting RHP Easton McGee did the team a big solid by delivering 3 scoreless innings on an efficient 37 pitches (2 H, 2 BB, 1 K) in his first start of 2025, after 32 consecutive relief appearances, during which time DH Jeferson Quero (1-for-2, walk, HBP) started a 2-run rally with a leadoff 2nd inning walk. OF Daz Cameron (2-for-5) doubled and was stranded in the 3rd inning, so went bigger to hit a 107.2mph 2-run homer in the 5th inning to restore Nashville’s 2-run lead at 4-2, while RHP Blake Holub did well to complete two innings of relief for the first time this season (2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks). With no pitching arms remaining as RHP Justin Yeager entered in the bottom of the 7th inning, he unfortunately issued 4 consecutive walks before finding the zone to maintain a 4-3 lead, but the 41 pitches limited him to that sole frame. 7 of the 8 runs were surrendered by a catcher (Nick Kahle - 5) and a Low-A pitcher called up in an emergency move (Fowler - 2). Sounds’ Extras: To his credit, despite allowing a game-tying homer on his second pitch, Kahle did well to retire 2 batters (fly out, pop out) to get within one out of exiting the 8th inning with the game tied 4-4, though things went haywire thereafter. It seems reasonable to assume that Carlos F. Rodriguez and Chad Patrick were held out as pitching depth for the Brewers (19 games in 18 days). The more worrisome development is the absence of LHP Bruce Zimmermann, who leads all Brewers’ minor leaguers in innings pitched (112 IP) but was a late scratch from Friday’s planned start. The only other pitcher who might have been available for limited work was rehabbing LHP Rob Zastryzny. He last pitched on Wednesday (4 batters) and Thursday (1 batter) and we hope remains on track to a full recovery. Next week’s outlook: Nashville returns home to host Reds’ affiliate Louisville for six games, commencing on Tuesday. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Columbus 7, Biloxi 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: DeBerry Ties Career-High with 7 Strikeouts, Shuckers Drop Finale to Clingstones Starting RHP Jaron DeBerry was terrific despite pitching on 4 days’ rest (5 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks), but unfortunately the team was not able to step up with more run support or shutdown bullpen work. After LHP Mark Manfredi retired 3 batters on 11 pitches and OF Bladimir Restituyo homered (1-for-2, HR, sac bunt, RBI) to give the Shuckers a 2-1 advantage, a leadoff 7th inning infield single seemed to unnerve Manfredi, with 2 wild pitches, a walk, double and homer following for a 5-2 deficit. DH Blake Burke continued his hot streak, getting on base 3 times (double, single, walk), but unfortunately he was stranded each time. OF Garrett Spain also had a decent day at the plate (1-for-3, walk, RBI). Shuckers’ Extras: We’ve not seen C Darrien Miller in action since his early exit on Wednesday, so C Eric Martinez (1-for-4, double, run) got a start after 3 consecutive games behind the plate for Matt Wood. RHP Austin Roberts was the team’s most effective reliever: 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi extends their homestand by welcoming Reds’ affiliate Chattanooga, with LHP Nate Peterson the most likely candidate to start Tuesday’s series opener despite far better numbers relieving (2.61 ERA, 8.8 K/9) than starting (7.11 ERA, 5.0 K/9). Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Great Lakes 5, Wisconsin 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, more game details: Errors Prove Fatal to Wisconsin Despite the defeat, Wisconsin’s media team put together video highlights from their close defeat: We’ve also got the extensive 31-minute Mehring-Lobner postgame podcast, featuring SS Jesus Made (with Hedbert Perez translating), RHP Bishop Letson and Manager Victor Estevez. Getting promising 20-year old prospect RHP Bishop Letson (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks on 32 pitches) back from injury for his first game since May 8 was a big victory, despite the ultimate game result. Per @biedergb in our Minor League Forum: “Letson looked good overall. 95 on his first pitch, but was 93-94 mph, and his breaking ball was great when he located, a few were erratic. Good outing back.” Per the linked game report, SS Jesus Made (2-for-3, 2 doubles, walk, run) and OF Luis Castillo (1-for-3, triple, walk, 3 RBIs) started the game with a bang, but the offense only produced 2 hits after the 1st inning. LHP Jesus Broca threw well (3 2/3, 2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks), stranding a baserunner for Letson, but was hurt by 3 infield singles in a 4-hit, 2-run third inning, while it was a mixed bag for RHP Aaron Rund (1 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 2 Ks) and LHP Anthony Flores (3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks). Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Three errors, two unearned runs and a baserunner picked off were certainly blemishes, but Wisconsin pitchers managed to strike out 10 Loons vs. only 2 Ks for Timber Rattlers’ hitters. Castillo also smashed a ball 108mph in the 5th inning which would have been a 2-run homer on most days (10mph winds coming in on Sunday). 1B Tayden Hall keeps walking (8 walks in last 24 PAs), but an 0-for-16 skid at the plate (0-for-3 today with 1 walk; .162 season average) may still be a bit frustrating. A whopping 34,360 fans watched the six home games in Grand Chute and we’ll hopefully see similar or better figures for the team’s final homestand of 2025 from August 26-31. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin will drive down to Beloit to battle the Marlins’ affiliate, with RHP Travis Smith (5 2/3 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 0 Ks on Tuesday) the most likely starting pitcher on Tuesday. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 4, Fayetteville 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Take Series Finale at Fayetteville Starting 18-year-old RHP Tyler Renz hadn’t pitched in a game in 19 days, but was yet again effective (3 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 WP, 2 Ks in 40 pitches) and exited with the game tied 1-1. From @biedergb again: “He worked efficiently and got a lot of grounders. Struck out a few his curveball was his main weapon, but good to see him get through 3 innings.” Faced with the prospect of falling into a tie for first place in the second half standings, 2B Josh Adamczewski (3-for-4, double, walk, RBI), OF Josiah Ragsdale (2-for-4, double, walk, 2 runs) and SS Filippo Di Turi (1-for-2, 3 walks, RBI) led the offense which pushed 3 runs across in the 7th inning to break a 1-1 tie. RHP Bryan Rivera (3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) was very effective in middle relief, stranding baserunners at 2nd and 3rd in the fourth inning before only allowing one harmless single over his remaining 2 innings. Mudcats’ Extras: LHP Bjorn Johnson allowed 2 singles in each of the 7th and 8th innings before escaping and RHP Garrett Hodges conceded 2 runs on 2 singles and a walk in the bottom of the 9th before inducing a groundout to preserve the Win. With the victory, Carolina remains one game ahead of Fredericksburg and two games ahead of Fayetteville in the 2nd half standings, with 19 regular season games remaining. Next week’s outlook: Carolina remains on the road, heading over to Salem, Virginia (adjacent to Roanoke) to take on the Red Sox’s affiliate for 6 games beginning on Tuesday. RHP Melvin Hernandez is the most likely starter for Tuesday’s game. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, the Dominican Summer League squads play their penultimate games of 2025 (Blue hosting Royals Fortuna, Gold playing at Royals Ventura) at 10:00am CST, while the Milwaukee Brewers play a split doubleheader at the Cubs (1:20pm and 7:05pm CST start times).
