The DSL playoff push is fizzling, unfortunately. Blue scored 7 runs in the 4th inning to grab a 9-6 lead, but conceded 7 over the final 3 innings to fall 13-9 to Tampa Bay. C Yoneiker Lugo (3-for-5, double, 3 RBIs; .791 OPS), CF Brailyn Antunez (3-for-5, HBP) and 1B/LF Angel Gonzalez (1-for-2, double, walk, HBP; .802 OPS) had solid days at the plate. The Gold squad were 3-hit in a 5-3 defeat to Orioles Orange, but they did draw 15 walks. SS Cristopher Acosta (1-for-2, 3 walks, SB) was their top performer. Gold’s spark-plug leadoff INF Juan Martinez (.977 OPS) has missed the last 2.5 games. And the Jonathan Rangel (.939 OPS) catching experiment seems muted (caught 2 of his last 11 games played; sat today).

The Shuckers didn’t hesitate to give new signee 24-year old LHP Raul Alcantara some action (last pitched one week ago with AA Chesapeake). Unfortunately, he didn’t hesitate to concede 2 runs on 2 singles and 2 walks. Biloxi falls 2-0, stranding 8 baserunners vs. 3 for Knoxville. A Cooper Pratt caught stealing with 1st and 3rd, 1 out in the 6th inning was a big moment. Burke walked and Spain singled in the 9th, but an Adam Hall K looking ended it. 7 scoreless innings from Tate Kuehner and Abdiel Mendoza went for naught. Darrien Miller subbed in for Boeve, going 1-for-1 with a walk. The Shuckers’ defense turned 3 double plays.

After losing a late lead and the game in Game 1 against DSL Orioles Orange, DSL Brewers Gold flirted with a repeat in Game 2, falling behind 2-1 in the 5th inning of the 7-inning tilt. Thankfully they rebounded with a 6-run 6th inning to grab a 7-2 victory. LF Eryks Rivero’s 2nd professional homer highlighted the rally, a 2-run homer to break a 2-2 tie. RF Alexander Frias (3-for-3, walk, RBI, outfield assist) had a big day, while 17-year old LHP Joan Pena (5.1 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks) was excellent as usual.

Really solid 7-1 win for DSL Brewers Blue over DSL Tampa Bay (31-17), grabbing a 2-1 lead by the 4th inning before pouring on 5 runs over the final 2 frames, all while 2-hitting the opposition. 17-year old RHP Steven Duran (5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 1 K; season ERA 3.43) was dominant in relief of terrific 17-year old starting RHP Diustin Mayorquin (3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K; season ERA 2.62). OF Frandy Lafond hit his first homer of 2025 (after 3 last season) in a 2-for-4 effort with a stolen base; a solo shot to the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning. 2B Moises Polanco went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and a stolen base to lift his season OPS to .870. 3B Joan Gutierrez also had a 2-for-4, 2 RBI day, while 1B Jefer Lista went 1-for-3 with 2 walks and a stolen base.

DSL Gold was leading its July 28 game against DSL Orioles Orange 1-0 when a rain delay struck with 2 outs in the Orioles' half of the 5th inning. One more measly out on that day and they'd have likely been granted the Win. Instead, they conceded a 4-run 8th inning today to drop that contest. But at least 19-year old starting RHP Ruben Saldana now gets his gem officially on record: 4.2 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 5 Ks. RHP Fabian Reyes (2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks) was credited with a rather unfair blown save, having inherited the bases loaded with nobody out from RHP Enrique Velasquez (2.1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 WP) in the 8th inning.

Transactions: C Jeferson Quero activated by AAA Nashville from 7-day injured list Signed LHP Raul Alcantara and assigned to AA Biloxi RHP Easton McGee optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers LHP Rob Zastryzny sent on rehab to AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Jacksonville 7, Nashville 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Herron Collects Four Hits and RBI in Sounds 7-2 Loss On the bright side, C Jeferson Quero (1-for-3, double; caught 1 of 3 basestealers) and rehabbing Rob Zastryzny (1 IP – 3 ground outs and 1 infielder error) both played well in their respective returns from injury, while #9 batter OF Jimmy Herron (4-for-4, double, RBI) had his best game of the year. Unfortunately, the Sounds trailed 5-0 before Herron notched the team’s first hit in the 3rd inning and 7-0 before scoring their first run in the 7th frame. After Zastryzny played the opener role, RHP Garrett Stallings entered and had his 2nd straight difficult outing (6 IP, 7 R, 12 H, 3 BB, 3 Ks in 97 pitches), though I’m sure that Manager Sweet will pat him on the back for gutting it out to save wear-and-tear on the rest of the staff. Sounds’ Extras: The player Quero tossed out at 2nd base was none other than old friend Joey Wiemer, while another old friend (Brian Navarreto) gunned down Nashville’s only steal attempt. In a way, Wiemer returned the favor by throwing out SS Freddy Zamora on the final play of the game (Herron’s double). Yes, we made the final out at home plate while trailing 7-2. RHPs Will Childers (1 IP, 3 Ks) and Jesus Liranzo (1 IP, 2 BB, 0 Ks) did their part with 2 hiteless, scoreless innings of relief. Friday’s outlook: LHP Bruce Zimmermann (4.29 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 in 107 IP) is scheduled to make his 3rd start in 11 days, with the team needing a solid outing to snap its 4-game losing streak. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Postponed in 5th inning: Biloxi 0, Knoxville 0 Live Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers-Smokies Suspended on Thursday in Knoxville Starting pitchers LHP Tate Kuehner (age 24; 2.50 season ERA) and Antonio Santos (age 28; 2.02 season ERA) were dominant before the rain defeated both of them to send this scoreless game to Friday. Kuehner faced the minimum of 12 batters over 4 innings, walking none. Both singles he allowed were eliminated on Pratt-Vargas-Burke ground ball double plays. For his part, Santos allowed a single (to OF Adam Hall), walk and HBP, while striking out 4 Shuckers. To this point in the game, neither team has had an at-bat with a runner in scoring position. Friday’s outlook: The teams are to resume Thursday’s game at 3:30pm CST with Knoxville coming to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning. Following the conclusion of that game, RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.65 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 93 2/3 IP) is scheduled to start the night cap. This week’s series is presently tied 1-1. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 9, Peoria 0 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, more game details: Made Makes a Statement in Wisconsin Victory Chris Mehring’s linked game report contains the detailed summary and four video highlights, although I think we all want to see SS Jesus Made’s 111mph blast again here: Starting RHP Tanner Gillis (6 1/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 7 Ks; 1.78 season ERA) was dominant, allowing only 2 of 21 batters to reach base, both on singles. He’s already earned one promotion this year, but the 24-year old (25 this Sunday) is making a case for another. Every Wisconsin position player reached base via hit or walk, with Made (2-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs), C Andrick Nava (2-for-5, double, 2 RBIs), OF Hedbert Perez (2-for-4, double, walk, RBI) and OF Luiyin Alastre (2-for-3, walk, sac fly, RBI) leading the charge. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: RHP Stiven Cruz (1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks) was effective in relief, while LHP Anthony Flores (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 1 WP, 0 Ks) added entertainment to the final frame. Wisconsin Manager Victor Estevez was ejected in the top of the 5th inning while his team led 6-0, while the Peoria bench coach joined him after arguing about an automatic strike in the 6th inning. Friday’s outlook: LHP Sam Garcia (4.00 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 78 2/3 High-A/Low-A IP) is the scheduled starter, as Wisconsin seeks to extend their series lead to 3 games to 1. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Rain Out: Lynchburg at Carolina Via the Mudcats’ website, rainout details: Mudcats and Lynchburg Postponed Thursday Carolina’s chance to end their 5-game losing streak in a doubleheader was scratched by Mother Nature. They trail this week’s series 1 game to 0 and now intend to play 4 games over the next 3 days. Friday’s outlook: LHP Enderson Mercado (4.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 53 ACL/Low-A IP), the youngest pitcher in the Carolina League at 18 years and 138 days, is set to make his 3rd Low-A start. Final: DSL CLE Goryl 7, DSL Brewers Blue 4 Box Score and Game Log Despite being out-hit 12 to 4 and failing to register any extra-base hits, the Blue Men kept it close. They even brought the potential game-tying batter to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out, down 7-3 in the top of the 7th inning. Unfortunately, a pitching change, back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out followed. OF Jefer Lista (2-for-3, walk, RBI, SB) and 17-year old RHP Carlos Galindo (3 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks; 3.38 season ERA) were the team’s top performers, with Galindo covering the 6th through 8th innings. C Yoneiker Lugo (1-for-3, walk, RBI) and OF Brailyn Antunez (1-for-3, walk, 2 SBs) also had productive days, though the squad fell to a record of 24-22. 18-year old RHP Bryan Regalado (1/3 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K) from the Dominican Republic started and made his professional debut, while RHP Brailin Aguirrez (2 2/3 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 HBP, 1 K) had a particularly rough outing. Final: DSL Padres Gold 5, DSL Brewers Gold 3 Box Score and Game Log Our Gold squad dropped to a 22-24 record despite out-hitting their opponent 9-to-6, undone by a 1-for-11 performance with runners in scoring position. Down 5-3 by the top of the 6th inning, they put at least one runner on base in each of their final 4 frames, but weren’t able to push any more runs across. Starting 18-year old RHP Derlin Garcia (4 2/3 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 4 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks; season ERA 2.12) kept the Padres hitless through 3 1/3 innings as Gold jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but allowed one run in the 4th inning and was hurt by a hit-by-pitch, bunt single and wild pitch as 3 runs were allowed in his final frame. OF Kenny Fenelon (2-for-5, HR, double, 2 RBIs) and 17-year old RHP Gustavo Garcia (4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks; 3.86 season ERA) had the most impressive days, with Gustavo tossing the final 4 innings of the game. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, there are a whopping 8 Minor League contests, including a doubleheader for DSL Brewers Gold against DSL Orioles Orange which commences at 9:00am CST. C Jeferson Quero (last played July 23) and Rob Zastryzny (last rehab outing July 25) return from injury as the AAA Sounds strive to snap their 3-game skid with a home win over Jacksonville.
