  1. AA Biloxi have dropped 4 consecutive games at Pensacola. RHP KC Hunt goes for his 3rd straight Win (11 IP, 1 R, 11 Ks over last 2 starts). 2B Jheremy Vargas has a 7-game hitting streak.
  2. Blake Holub needed only 7 pitches to induce 3 groundouts in the 7th inning. But the 8th is a disaster: single, walk, 3-run homer. Sounds trail 8-4.
  3. After Scranton scored 4 runs in the 5th inning to grab a 5-4 lead over Nashville, the teams have combined to have 16 straight batters retired. Blake Holub covered the 7th and remains in for the 8th. Perhaps Zastryzny’s rehab won’t outing won’t be until Tuesday.
  4. Zimmermann rebounded nicely with 3 groundouts in the 6th inning. I didn’t realize how dire Nashville’s pitching depth is today, after a Friday doubleheader and after losing Henderson, Hudson and Peguero. Holub, Yeager and rehabbing Zastryzny may be all we have available.
  5. Bruce Zimmermann dug deep to nearly escape a 2nd and 3rd, nobody out situation in the 5th inning. He K’d the next 2 batters on 7 total pitches before allowing a 2-run single. We left him in for a few more batters: RBI single, RBI double, ground out. Sounds trail 5-4 entering the 6th inning.
  6. For the second straight day, Ray Delgado uses the ABS challenge to over-turn a strike in a key situation: - yesterday as part of ultimately drawing a walk in the 9th inning comeback - now today to negate a strikeout, before then drawing a walk in the 5th inning Now Tyler Black follows with a sac fly for a 2-1 lead.
  7. The Low-A Mudcats need to break their 4-game losing streak at Augusta behind 18-year old RHP Tyler Renz (3.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 57.2 ACL/Low-A IP). Will this be 2B Josh Adamczewski’s (1.034 OPS in 164 Low-A PAs) last game before promotion?
  8. LHP Bruce Zimmermann has been on a roll (1.67 ERA in last 43.1 IP) and is making his second start of the week (6 IP, 0 R, 3 Ks on Tuesday). DH Daz Cameron has a 1.266 OPS during his 14-game on-base streak. AAA Nashville needs a win at Scranton/W-B to even this week’s series.
  9. High-A Wisconsin can earn a 3-3 series tie with a home win over Lake County today. Rehabbing LHP Robert Gasser threw 22 pitches in 2 innings on Tuesday. RF Kay-Lan Nicasia is in quite the funk (11-for-last-100).
  10. - RHP Logan Henderson recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville
  11. Odd to have Yhoswar pinch hit for Eduardo in the 6th inning. He comes thru with their 3rd infield single of the frame. Wisconsin’s down 2-1, but should hopefully at least tie it here. I’d guess Guilarte will have to shift over to shortstop for the rest of the game.
  12. It looks like 9 of the 15 Arizona Complex League teams are participating in Bridge League, which started on July 29:
  13. Daz the Man triples home 2 more runs and Nashville turns a 2-0 9th inning deficit into a 5-2 advantage! Yay!!
  14. And EMJ smokes (112.3mph) a below-the-zone pitch from old friend Joel Kuhnel to right field for a 2-run double! Sounds lead 3-2 in the 9th. Let’s get more!!
  15. A Zamora single scores Dunn, who’d reached on a HBP with 1 out to start this last gasp rally, but Alfaro holds up at 3rd. Struggling Ernesto Martinez Jr. comes to the dish, bases juiced, Sounds trailing 2-1 with 1 out.
  16. Similar to Carolina, Nashville has entered the 9th trailing, but has now loaded the bases with 1-out, down 2-0. Freddy Zamora is up. Alfaro represents the potential game-tying run on 2nd base. We could pinch-run Herron for Alfaro, but that’d basically force Kahle into the game and leave the bench empty (assuming Dalbec and Haase are unavailable).
  17. Reece Walling had his first multi-hit game since May 18 and the Mudcats had many more baserunners than Augusta, but still fall 5-3, with Jesus Made (0-for-5, 1 K) flying out to strand the bases loaded in the 9th.
  18. Tougher night than usual for Ethan Dorchies, particularly a 3-run, 3-hit 3rd inning. Mudcats trail 4-1 in the 6th inning, but the good news is that RHP Jayden Dubanewicz is in after exiting early on Sunday.
  19. Shuckers’ game is live and free tonight:
  20. A walk and 2 singles (Delgado, Zamora) produced no runs for the Sounds in the 2nd inning. EMJ’s in a 1-for-21 rut. But Maciejewski has made it thru 2 innings unscathed (28 pitches). 0-0 game near Scranton.
  21. Eric Bitonti watched 3 called strikes to end the top of the 1st inning and was promptly sent back to the hotel by Christian Miranda. Both pitchers are perfect thru 2 innings, with 25 of 35 pitches going for strikes.
  22. With a depleted lineup, I’m asking LHP Sam Garcia (4.09 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 72.2 High-A/Low-A IP) and rehabbing MLB OF Steward Berroa to step up at tonight for High-A Wisconsin, as they seek a 3-2 home series lead over Lake County.
  23. Despite dropping 3 straight, Low-A Carolina lead their division by 2 games and have exceptional 18-year old RHP Ethan Dorchies (1.40 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 51.1 ACL/Low-A IP) starting at Augusta tonight. The young Mudcats have drawn the most walks (529) in the 12-team Carolina League (464 second place). 1 - Pena - 2B 2 - Made - SS 3 - Bitonti - DH 4 - Anderson - CF 5 - Di Turi - 3B 6 - Rodriguez - LF 7 - Walling - 1B 8 - Ibarguen - RF 9 - Walther - C X - Dorchies - P
  24. Down 3 games to 1 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, it looks like a bullpen game for AAA Nashville tonight as LHP Josh Maciejewski (5.17 ERA in 47 AAA/AA IP) starts despite pitching 2 innings on Wednesday. That’s also the last time we saw Bobby Dalbec in the lineup. 2B Ray Delgado has an .842 OPS in his last 84 PAs.
  25. AA Biloxi have a healthy first baseman(!) and it’s none other than newly-promoted Blake Burke (.783 OPS in 408 High-A PAs). RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.59 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 87.2 IP) starts at Pensacola, with the Shuckers trailing 3-1 in the series.
