  1. AA Biloxi’s series-deciding game at Montgomery is in the hands of LHP Nate Peterson (3.40 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 in 50.1 IP), making his first start since May 29. It’s time for SS Cooper Pratt to snap his 0-for-17 skid.
  2. The High-A Timber Rattlers can clinch a 2-1 series win at Cedar Rapids this afternoon behind RHP Tanner Gillis (1.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 7.2 K/9 in 51.1 IP). 3B Jadher Areinamo is 6-for-10 with 2 homers over the past 2 games.
  3. High-A Wisconsin welcomes newly-acquired C Andrick Nava (.499 OPS in 79 PAs this year) to the organization. 19-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguez (2.27 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 35.2 IP) gets the start at Cedar Rapids, with the T-Rats needing a win to even this weekend’s series.
  4. The Low-A Mudcats can capture their weekend series at Delmarva with a victory in support of 20-year old LHP Wande Torres (5.82 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 51 IP). 2B Luis Pena has a 5-game hitting streak.
  5. RHP Chad Patrick makes his 2nd AAA start of 2025 (6 IP, 2 R, 7 Ks eight days ago) as AAA Nashville looks to claim a home series win over Indianapolis. RF Daz Cameron (unclaimed by 29 GMs) is 9-for-16 with 4 homers over his last 4 games.
  6. The AA Shuckers can capture this weekend’s short series at Montgomery with a win tonight behind LHP Tate Kuehner (2.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 10.0 K/9 in 82.2 IP). C Matt Wood has a .908 OPS over his last 97 PAs.
  7. One inning for Gasser in his 2025 rehab debut in Arizona (first game since June 1, 2024): fly out, ground out, infield single, picked off. 9 pitches, 7 strikes.
  8. - LHP Robert Gasser sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers
  9. As we entered the offseason, I wanted Suarez as a RHH bat to replace Adames’ offense, but I didn’t realize that we only had $4m to spend. At this point, I’d still target a solid position player. Maybe McMahon can turns things around by being in a winning environment a la Andrew Vaughn. That could also protect our offense a bit in the extraordinarily unlikely event that Yelich or Frelick are out during the home stretch. I also figure we need a reliever after relying so much on Mears, Uribe, Koenig and Megill. It’s just that every deadline reliever trade post-Pomeranz seems to blow up on us.
  10. LHP Nestor Cortes makes his 3rd rehab start (4 scoreless innings on 54 pitches 8 days ago), this time for AAA Nashville as they host Pirates’ affiliate Indianapolis. LF Daz Cameron is 7-for-12 with 2 homers and 7 RBIs over his last 3 games.
  11. Look out Carolina League, DH Josh Adamczewski (.990 OPS in 111 PAs before an injury) is back for his first Low-A game since May 2! RHP Travis Smith (3.84 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 6.6 K/9 in 61 IP) gets tonight’s start at Orioles’ affiliate Delmarva.
  12. After sitting out 6 games and DH’ing in 2 more, SS Cooper Pratt (.705 OPS vs. league-average .661, with 20 SBs) returns to the field for AA Biloxi, who’ve unfortunately dropped 7 consecutive games. RHP Brett Wichrowski is riding a solid 3-game run (18 IP, 3 ER, 10 Ks) and starts at Rays’ affiliate Montgomery tonight.
  13. The High-A Timber Rattlers have lost 16 of their last 22 games and now play a 3-game set at Twins’ affiliate Cedar Rapids. RHP Ryan Birchard struck out 7 batters in his last start (4.1 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 1 H, 5 BB). C Blayberg Diaz has a 6-game hitting streak.
  14. - INF Josh Adamczewski activated from Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list
  15. Tyler Renz, rehabbing Carlos Rodriguez, Jorge Quintana and Roderick Flores led ACL Brewers to a tight Thursday win. Both Dominican squads struggled offensively in defeat, but Carlos Done homered. Transactions: C Andrick Nava acquired from Phillies for cash and assigned to High-A Wisconsin RHP Wenderlyn King placed on ACL Brewers’ 7-day injured list RHP Aidan Maldonado transferred to High-A Wisconsin’s 60-day injured list RHP Jake Polancic transferred to High-A Wisconsin’s full season injured list Game Action: Final: ACL Brewers 4, ACL Mariners 3 Box Score and Game Log Rehabbing RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (4 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks) and 18-year old RHP Tyler Renz (4 1/3 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 1 WP, 7 Ks) stifled the ACL Mariners for 8 innings before Renz tired in the 9th and the Zona Crew held on. OF Roderick Flores (2-for-3, double, walk) and SS Jorge Quintana (3-for-5, double, RBI) keyed the offense, both delivering 2nd inning hits as the Brewers grabbed a 2-0 lead. Quintana and rehabbing OF Luis Castillo (2-for-4) both singled and scored in the 5th inning to push the advantage to 4-1. That’s how things stood until the bottom of the 9th inning, when Renz allowed a walk, 2 singles and a line out, equaling his season high of 22 batters faced and giving way to RHP Carlos Espinal. After a run-scoring balk, Espinal closed out the win with a strikeout and line out. Also of note, OF Handelfry Encarnacion (0-for-his-last-12 but with just 2 Ks in that span) exited early after popping out in the top of the 6th inning, so we’ll need to monitor his availability. Our Arizona Squad (28-27) are back at it Friday night as they host the ACL Diamondbacks (29-26) at 8:00pm CST. Final: DSL Tampa Bay 6, DSL Brewers Blue 3 Box Score and Game Log Strong pitching from 17-year old RHP Carlos Galindo (4 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks) was nearly rewarded, as 2B Leonard Rijo delivered an RBI single with 2-on, 1-out in the 6th inning to cut an early deficit to 2-1. C Yoneiker Lugo followed with a single of his own. Unfortunately, Tampa gunned down the lead baserunner at home on the play, one of three Brewers thrown out on the bases in the pivotal 6th and 7th innings. Five consecutive hits scored 4 unearned runs off of RHP Diustin Mayorquin (3 IP, 4 R (0 ER), 5 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 3 Ks) in the bottom of the 7th inning to extend Tampa’s advantage to 6-1. OF Carlos Done’s 2-run blast in the 9th inning helped the final score line. Batting leadoff, Done went 1-for-4 with a walk and 2 RBIs. SS Moises Polanco went 2-for-5 and sports a season AVG of .306 and OPS of .938. The Blue Men (18-14) get another chance tomorrow, hosting DSL Padres Gold (22-11) at 10:00am CST. Final: DSL Pirates Gold 3, DSL Brewers Gold 1 Box Score and Game Log Four baserunners in the first 2 innings didn’t produce any runs for Brewers Gold, but starting 18-year old RHP Jose Arias (5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks) had a respectable outing to give the team a chance. The team trailed 3-0 by the 6th inning, but C Roniel Paulino (2-for-4) doubled with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning to initiate a potential comeback. A walk and OF Nicolas Barrios (1-for-3) single loaded the bases, but only a sacrifice fly came from it to narrow the gap to 3-1. Three straight walks to open the bottom of the 8th inning should have done some damage, but two players caught stealing wrecked that opportunity. Paulino’s inning-opening single in the 9th was followed by three strikeouts. Team Gold only managed 4 hits in the contest and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The relieving trio of RHPs Enrique Velasquez, Albert Vargas and Wandy Cabrera combined to only concede 1 run and strike out 4 batters over 4 innings, but each has a season ERA above 11.00. The Gold Squad (15-18) also get another chance for a win on Friday, playing at DSL Cubs Blue (15-17) at 10:00am CST. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, the full season affiliates and Milwaukee Brewers return to action. Carolina plays at Delmarva at 6:05pm. Nashville (hosting Indianapolis), Wisconsin (RHP Ryan Bichard starting at Cedar Rapids) and Biloxi (at Montgomery) all commence at 6:35pm CST. The Brewers have a late game at the Dodgers at 9:10pm CST. 17. - RHP Wenderlyn King placed on ACL Brewers’ 7-day injured list
  18. It appears we’ve signed 22-year old RHP Tanner Perry out of Illinois State:
  19. The ACL Brewers’ final game is on July 23, while our DSL clubs play until August 19 (plus possible playoffs), so I’d expect the DSL players to stay put for the next 5 weeks. Beyond July 23, there will be a sort of Extended Summer Ball in Arizona - unofficial, with no statistical record, involving recent draft picks, non-drafted free agent signings and ACL players which are not promoted or assigned to Carolina or Wisconsin. If we’re lucky, @BrewersPD and/or other media visitors will share a few videos spotlighting players. And then some of the DSL players will in fact come stateside after their own season finishes, but we’re unlikely to see any transactions to that effect. Even guys like Made and Pena weren’t officially logged as being promoted stateside until March 31, 2025, despite probably being physically here (working out and even playing some unofficial games at the Arizona Complex) 6 months earlier.
  20. To me, it’s not a lock, as we need to move Murray and Areinamo up to make it work. But we’ve historically moved up our 18-year old studs in-season: Chourio (July 25), Lara (August 14), Yophery (September 15), so the odds seem high to me.
  21. I count 14 promotions over an 11-day period last year: Misiorowski Henderson Yoho + CD Rodriguez, Hunt + Kuehner, Pratt Bryant + Figueroa, Adamczewski Bitonti Rivera + Floresx2. I don’t see anywhere near 6 starting pitcher promotions this year. Even a deserved player like Melvin Hernandez might just be shut down for hitting an innings limit. To me, top promotion candidates include Wilken, Murray, Warren, Areinamo, Burke, E. Garcia, Adamczewski, Made, Pena, Bitonti, Payne, Encarnacion, Fielder, Yeager, M. Hernandez, Renz, Mercado.
  22. Last year, the final ACL Brewers’ game was on a Wednesday (July 24) and a number of organizational promotions followed on Monday (July 29). If we follow that pattern, we should see promotions on Monday, July 28 this year, following the final ACL Brewers game on Wednesday, July 23.
  23. In our Minor League system’s roughest week in some time, Nashville managed a series draw (3-3), while each of Biloxi (0-6), Wisconsin (1-5) and Carolina (2-3) lost their series. Transactions: RHP Easton McGee optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers OF Blake Perkins completed rehab and optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers OF Drew Avans of AAA Nashville designated for assignment Of course, the Brewers also drafted 5 exciting players on Sunday (including #20 pick 3B Andrew Fischer and #32 pick SS Brady Ebel), with another 17 selections expected to join them in Monday’s draft action. Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Durham 4, Nashville 3 Box Score and Game Log Throwing on 4 days’ rest, starting LHP Bruce Zimmermann certainly deserved a better outcome as he delivered 5 innings of 3-hit ball with no earned runs allowed and 6 strikeouts, but unfortunately a 4th inning error eventually contributed to 2 runs coming across to give Durham a 2-1 lead. For Durham, it was a bullpen day, with rehabbing Major Leaguer Shane McClanahan throwing 1 2/3 innings to kick things off. He baffled several Sounds’ hitters with his change-up, but OF Daz Cameron (2-for-3, double, walk, HBP, RBI, SB) wasn’t fooled as he doubled and scored on a 1B Tyler Black single for a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Sounds stranded two baserunners against a tiring reliever in the 5th inning before RHP Will Childers struggled in relief for the 2nd time in 3 days – conceding 2 runs on 2 doubles, 2 singles and a walk before LHP Bryan Hudson stranded 2 baserunners for him. 2B Ray Delgado (2-for-4, 2 SBs) doubled and scored on a wild pitch to narrow the gap to 4-2 in the 7th inning, but Nashville stranded baserunners at 2nd and 3rd in that frame. Finally, OF Blake Perkins doubled and Cameron drove him home with a 1-out single in the top of the 9th inning to make it a 4-3 game with the potential game-tying run on base, but Black K’d looking and 3B Bobby Dalbec hit it 309-feet to left field for the final out (instead of a 2-run homer). Sounds’ Extras: RHPs Craig Yoho and Joel Payamps looked good in relief, retiring all 6 batters faced on a combined 27 pitches (21 strikes). Per the summary above, readers can deduce that Nashville left some opportunities on the field, stranding 10 baserunners vs. 7 for Durham. SS Freddy Zamora and OF Jared Oliva saw their 15-game and 14-game on-base streaks end, combining with OF Drew Avans on an 0-for-12 day. Next week’s outlook: After 4 days off to rest, recuperate and enjoy watching the MLB All-Star game and related events, the Sounds (53-38) will host Pirates’ affiliate Indianapolis (55-37) for three games commencing on Friday. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Birmingham 4, Biloxi 3 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Shuckers Drop Series Finale in Extras to Barons Starting RHP Alexander Cornielle (2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 2 HBP, 4 Ks) struggled on 4 days’ rest, but OF Adam Hall (outfield assist) and RHP Zach Peek (2 stranded inherited runners) helped limit the damage to keep it a 3-1 game through 3 innings. From there, Hall (2-for-3, double, walk, 2 RBIs) kept up the contributions and the Biloxi bullpen delivered 7 1/3 exceptional innings (0 earned runs), while the Shuckers’ offense was able to tie the game 3-3 but not quite put the team in front. In a great chance to walk it off, Hall walked to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning and Luis Lara (2-for-4, walk, SB) contributed an infield single, but the team stranded 2 baserunners as the game went to extra innings. All six Shuckers and Barons’ batters were retired in the 10th inning, including 5 via fly out. However, Birmingham’s fly outs were sufficient to move the Manfred around to score, while Biloxi’s ghost runner remained glued to second base. Shuckers’ Extras: Peek (2 1/3 IP, 1 K), LHP Mark Manfredi (2 IP, 2 Ks), RHP Bo Bowman (1 IP), RHP Justin Yeager (1 IP, 1 K) and LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (1 IP, 1 R (0 ER)) each did their part to try to make 1,508 home fans happy. SS Ethan Murray doubled in the 8th inning and also drew a walk to go into the All-Star break with an .863 OPS. By contrast, DH Cooper Pratt had an 0-for-5 day, but the team is pleased to have him back after dealing with a sore left (non-throwing) shoulder (per Adam McCalvy). Biloxi was 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, stranding 9 baserunners, while the Barons went 3-for-9 and left 8 men on base. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi (49-38) gets a chance to end its 7-game losing streak on Friday, as they’ve a 3-game series at Rays’ affiliate Montgomery (47-40). Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: South Bend 5, Wisconsin 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, more game details: Late Comeback Falls Short for Rattlers Despite a close loss, Wisconsin’s terrific media team has compiled terrific video highlights for us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH6-O0TPprQ Please also catch the 25-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast, featuring Manager Victor Estevez. OF Eduardo Garcia (3-for-4, HR, double, RBI, SB; .776 season OPS) nearly hit for the cycle as the Timber Rattlers kept it close, but he was stranded in the 1st and 3rd innings and grounded into a double play in his final at-bat. As Manager Estevez explained on the podcast, starting RHP Sam Garcia (2 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K) was expected to throw 3 innings on 4 days’ rest, but was lifted an inning early due to a blister while the team led 2-1. From there, two 4th inning errors helped put Wisconsin in a 4-2 hole, but RHP Jack Seppings (2 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 2 Ks) managed to strand 2 baserunners in that inning and RHP Patricio Aquino (2 IP, 0 R) escaped a 2-on, nobody out situation in the 5th inning with the help of a ground ball double play. After Eduardo Garcia’s solo homer narrowed the score to 4-3, the teams combined to retire 13 consecutive batters, setting the stage for drama in the final 2 innings. 3,242 home fans were on the edge of their seats as OF Yhoswar Garcia (1-for-3, sacrifice, SB) stood 90 feet from tying the game with nobody out in the bottom of the 9th inning, but the Cubs’ bullpen was able to lock it down with 2 strikeouts and a game-ending groundout from SS Jadher Areinamo (0-for-5, no Ks). Timber Rattlers’ Extras: 2B Juan Baez (2-for-4, RBI) has increased his production since the calendar turned to July (.303 AVG and .758 OPS in 40 PAs), coming through with a 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the 8th inning to make it a 1-run game. 1B Blake Burke also had a 2-for-4 day with a double to lift his season average to .313 and OPS to .839. LHP Jesus Broca (2 IP, 1 R, 3 Ks) and RHP Bayden Root (1 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) effectively covered the final 3 innings to give the Wisconsin offense a chance to pull it out. Next week’s outlook: The Timber Rattlers (40-46) travel to Twins’ affiliate Cedar Rapids (51-35) for three games starting on Friday. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Postponed: Fredericksburg at Carolina Via the Mudcats’ website, rainout details: Mudcats Postponed Sunday The postponement paused OF Braylon Payne’s terrific run of form (10-game hitting streak, with homers in 2 of his last 4 games), but also protected arms – e.g. LHP Wande Torres had been expected to start on 4 days’ rest. The teams expect to make up this game in Fredericksburg in the first week of September – i.e. the final scheduled series of the year for both squads. Next week’s outlook: Carolina (48-35) returns to game play on Friday with a 3-game series at Orioles’ affiliate Delmarva (34-53). We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, the Rookie squads remain in action, with DSL Brewers Blue (17-12) hosting DSL Padres Gold (20-10) at 10:00am while their brethren DSL Brewers Gold (13-17) play at DSL Orioles Orange (12-18) at the same time.
