1. Ernesto Martinez and his 15-game hitting streak return to the lineup after one day off, as the Mudcats strive for a second consecutive win:
2. Carlos Rodriguez comes in with a 7-game hitting streak, as the Timber Rattlers aim for a third straight win:
3. Josh Lindblom struck out 20 batters over his last 2 starts (12.2 innings). Let’s see what he has in store today, as Nashville looks for a bounce back game:
4. Brendan Murphy returns from injury, while the Mudcats need to bounce back after losing 5 of their last 6 games:
5. Freddy Zamora has hit safely in 5 of 6 games since promotion, finishing with a 1.065 OPS in 108 PAs across 2 MILB levels in August. He and the Timber Rattlers seek a 2nd straight win:
6. Renato Nunez makes his Brewers’ system debut, while Mario Feliciano returns from injury, as the Sounds try to win 4 in a row:
7. http://www.brewerfan.net/images/store/dailylinkreport.jpg Organizational Scoreboard including starting pitcher info, game times, MiLB TV links, and box scores *** Standings and sortable stat pages *** I don’t really know how to post the daily Link Report, but I do want to get a few postings up before getting some shut-eye. These can always be moved over to the true Link Report subsequently: Tonight’s games for the top 4 MILB levels, though Biloxi is not playing yet again due to the Hurricane Ida aftermath: https://www.milb.com/scores/milwaukee-brewers/2021-09-01 DSL and ACL leagues are off today.
8. Another promotion: - Utility man David Fry promoted from AA Biloxi to AAA Nashville - IF Gabriel Garcia activated from Development List by Biloxi
9. Four pitcher promotions(!), one unfortunate release, one return from injury: - RHP Kent Hasler transferred from Carolina to High-A Wisconsin. - RHP Nick Belzer released by Milwaukee. - RHP Junior Montero added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Blue. - RHP Alexander Cornielle added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Blue. - RHP Brailin Rodriguez added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Gold. - LHP Brendan Murphy reinstated from injured list to Carolina. https://www.milb.com/carolina-mudcats/news/montero-cornielle-rodriguez-added-hasler-to-wisconsin - Undrafted, Belzer played for ACL Blue in 2019, was released in November 2020, made one start for Sioux City (independent ball), re-signed on May 30th and looked more like a promotion candidate than a release candidate for most of the year, with a 2.98 ERA through his first 9 starts. However, the numbers weakened over his last 3 starts (ending with 3.55 ERA, 1.22 WHIP in 63.1 innings), his age (now 26 years old) and a low K rate (6.4 per 9 innings) appear to have triggered a second release from Milwaukee. We hope he quickly lands on his feet. Good luck Nick!
10. Per wibadgers23’s post, first round pick (15th overall) Sal Frelick makes his High-A debut, leading off and playing center field for the Timber Rattlers, who host the Beloit Snappers this week:
11. 18-year old Hedbert Perez makes his debut for the 61-41 Carolina Mudcats, batting second and playing center field. It’s a big week hosting the 57-45 Delmarva Shorebirds:
12. Catcher Jeferson Quero left the ACL Blue game in the first inning, after walking and scoring. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.
13. A few more moves: OF Tristan Peters (7th round draft pick) assigned to ACL Blue. OF Jhonny David released from ACL Gold. - Signed in 2018, 20-year old Jhonny had a nice start in DSL (.797 in 38 PAs) before injuries and Covid robbed him of 2.5 years. Moving stateside this year, he struggled in 40 PAs (20 Ks, .394 OPS). Best of luck to Jhonny. RHP Wilkerman Chourio released from ACL Blue. - Signed in 2018, debuted with just one DSL game in 2019, 20-year old Wilkerman moved stateside this year and appeared in another 9 games. He posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 11.2 innings this year, with 11 Ks, 10 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Good luck to Wilkerman.
14. Per the embedded tweet above, OF Mike Wilson was also released from Low-A Carolina. A 16th round pick in the 2019 draft out of SUNY Stony Brook, who reportedly signed for $100,000, 23-year old LHH Mike played in 73 games over the 2019 and 2021 seasons, displaying a bit of pop (8 HRs in 282 PAs). Contact issues appear to have been his undoing (121 Ks across 2 seasons, including 39 Ks in 83 PAs this year). Good luck to Mike in all future endeavors, baseball or otherwise.
15. Patrick Weigel makes his first start of the season, as Nashville strives for a third consecutive victory:
16. Two Carolina moves: - RHP Juan Geraldo placed on injured list (as of 8/28) - RHP Jhoan Cruz reinstated from injured list https://www.milb.com/carolina-mudcats/news/jhoan-cruz-returns-from-il-juan-geraldo-to-il
17. Zach Mort takes the mound for the Mudcats, who need to stop their 4-game skid. He aims for a third straight terrific start (1.42 ERA with 18 Ks in 12.2 innings in winning his last 2 games):
18. The Timber Rattlers have the sole early game today, trying to break a 4-game skid. Hopefully Kekai Rios and his surprisingly hot bat (7-game hitting streak, 1.138 OPS last 58 PAs) can lead the squad to victory: 1 - Zamora - SS 2 - Valerio - DH 3 - Warren - 3B 4 - Gray - CF 5 - McGee - 1B 6 - Rios - C 7 - L. Castillo - RF 8 - Rodriguez - LF 9 - Pinero - 2B X - Castaneda - P
19. Joey Wiemer returns to the lineup after one day off and Ashton McGee looks to extend his 9-game hitting streak, as the Timber Rattlers also aim to stop a 3-game skid: 1 - Wiemer - RF 2 - Valerio - 2B 3 - Warren - DH 4 - Gray - CF 5 - Zamora - SS 6 - McGee - 1B 7 - L. Castillo - LF 8 - Kahle - C 9 - Pinero - 3B X - Shook - P
20. Ernesto Martinez tries to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and help Carolina snap a rare 3-game losing streak:
21. Ethan Small returns to the mound in Nashville after an extended injury absence:
22. OF Mitch Longo might be up for free agency as well. And then we don't necessarily know what's going on with P Josh Lindblom.
23. Jesus Castillo looks to replicate his last outing (6.0 innings, zero runs) and lead the Shuckers to a third straight victory, while Korry Howell gets his first AA action at shortstop: 1 - Hamilton - 2B 2 - Howell - SS 3 - Mitchell - CF 4 - Fry - C 5 - Dillard - DH 6 - Longo - LF 7 - Lutz - RF 8 - Spanberger - 1B 9 - Devanney - 3B X - J. Castillo - P
24. Carlos Rodriguez has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games (.372 AVG during this run). He leads off for the Timber Rattlers, who strive to halt a 2-game skid: 1 - Rodriguez - LF 2 - Valerio - DH 3 - Warren - 3B 4 - Gray - CF 5 - McGee - 1B 6 - Zamora - SS 7 - McClanahan - RF 8 - Rios - C 9 - Pinero - 2B X - Jarvis - P
25. Wes Clarke (1.017 OPS in 55 PAs in Carolina) makes his 6th start at catcher for the Mudcats, which need to win to even up this week’s series with the Nationals 2-2:
