  1. Davis only had 106 pitches...why not let him finish it out NED!?!
  2. Of course you would think one of the kids would break through... Give Hendrickson a third or forth shot at breaking through. He's a AAA world beater and then he wakes up in his bed in Milwaukee and he becomes a Rookie ball pitcher just out of high school pitching to guys 5x better than him. The pitching depth in the minors is terrible and the only way to correct that problem is by developing pitchers better and making trades to acquire arms better than those of Shouse, Gonzalez or Mabeus. Those are scrap-heap type players who shouldn't even be on a MLB roster.
  3. This is not the Brewers team I was hoping to see this year. At this point, we are several years away from truly competing in this division with the likes of the Cardinals or Astros.
  4. So we got swept by the Pirates... The bottom line is this team is not going anywhere with the current pitching we have in place. The staff is horrible. The only starter I feel confident in is Capuano to provide us with consistency. The bullpen is in shambles and even Turnbow is not untouchable out there. People are drinking Brewers "kool-aid" if they think we can compete with the pitching we have. With this staff and bullpen, we will be 15 games back before you know it. All of this = Melvin trade for some pitching, PLEASE!!!
  5. I love to hate this team. I am going to take a 5 day break. No sports radio. No online activity. No Online surfing. NOTHING! I believe this will be good for my sanity. I think others should do the same. Good job Villy. btw.lol That sounds quite refreshing. I will be in Cancun for the next 7 days (I know most of you are crying...because of joy) but I will only be able to see the scores if I see them on the bottom line on "ESPN Dos" before I turn in. I hope we're still at .500 or above when I get back June 1st.
  6. Like previously said and totally ignored by you, ya think the bullpen MIGHT potentially be sucking because they have to throw 6 innings a night, 5 times a week? First of all, I do not consider Lehr's *almost* 4.00 ERA anything to get all excited about. That is not a great ERA for a quality bullpen pitcher. If the bullpen is sucking so badly, isn't that a reflection of our starting pitching staff as a whole? The only player who is better or the same as he was last year is Capuano. Our #2 guy is Davis. He's having horrible command issues and his 5.14 ERA is pathetic. What's even worse is his inability to get into the 7th inning this season (2 out of 10 starts he has gotten 7 IP in). Bush has been a very big disappointment for us and the AAA pitchers who fill in #4 and #5 spots cannot be counted on. So how can this team get any better? I see a gradual decline coming because of this.
  7. how was Melvin supposed to anticipate Lehr sucking He hasn't done anything in the past to make me confident in his abilities. Look at the bullpen pitchers right now...they are absolutely horrible as a whole. How can this team expect to consistently win with poor starting pitching and even worse bullpen help to seal the game later on? I don't care how good your offense is, pitching is what carries a team into contention.
  8. You can't be serious. This year, for the first time we had 6 legitimate Major-league quality starters to work with. It's Melvin's fault that three of those options got hurt all at once? The depth was there, but chance hasn't worked out. The depth was better this year than it has been since 1992. All you mentioned was the starting pitching. You neglected to mention anything about bullpen depth? Come on! The bullpen this year was overall quite horrible, if I may say so. The only people you can count on are Turnbow and Wise. Eveyone else is pretty much a crap-shoot when they go in. So I don't see how it's out of the realm to think our pitching depth is any better than mediocre, at best (especially in the minor leagues).
  9. With the pitching and defense as bad as it is, who still thinks this team has a shot to do anything noteworthy this year? Frankly, bringing 2 guys up from AA doesn't instill very much confidence in me, and even having to plug in AAA pitchers into the rotation isn't a good thing either. Melvin receives his share of praise, but he didn't do a good job of creating pitching depth for us, let's be honest.
  10. My question, is how can our potent lineup only have 3 runs against the Reds garbage staff??? Maybe they're not as "potent" as you thought????
  11. Major league debut for opposing pitcher automatically = Brewers LOSS
  12. I really don't care, I said over a year ago this guy is terrible, all I heard give the guy a chance blah blah blah!!! what is he 1-10 career, It's a joke and its not inappropriate. This guy is the epitome of the player who excels at AAA and can't convert that over to the bigs. His stuff, frankly, is not good enough. He is not a major league pitcher. The only reason some fans think he's going to be good is because he is in our organization. People's visions of reality are sometimes clouded by one's love for a team and a player's shortcomings or 'suckiness' is brushed to the wayside because of the 'upside' that people would like to think someone has.
  13. That 'a boy Jenks....gotta pick away at Ben's mess 1 run at a time (or 2 in Geoff's case).
  14. I feel bad for Little Ben, but he's looking more and more like a AAAA pitcher every day. He's looked like a AAAA pitcher from day 1...what's new there? I swear to God, if Hendrickson gets the start the next time his spot comes around, I will absolutely snap and lose every ounce of respect for Ned Yost as a manager. Give your team a chance to win the game, that's not asking too much.
  15. Props to Shroeder for asserting the point about Hendrickson possibly being on a short leash because of his early troubles. He was speaking of his starting job being in jeapordy. I know I am not the only one to think that we are basically conceding the game when Ben takes the mound. He has shown me absolutely nothing so far from any start he has ever made. I have not seen anything that tells me he can consistently get major league hitters out. He is meat out there and basically throws BP. I have no clue how Yost can march him out there with any sort of confidence. When Helling comes back, Hendrickson gets the boot!
  16. Face it: Ned's an idiot. And the sooner someone important realizes it, the sooner that this team might be better than the middle of the pack in the Central. Ned is not an "idiot." Ned is, however, very very stubborn. He seems always intent on getting the starting pitcher the win. He typically keeps pitchers in a little longer than he should and did the same thing in recent years with the likes of Wes Helms and Russell Branyan, players who didn't earn their PT but still got the reps because Ned was a "stick with 'em" type of manager. He needs to set his ego aside and start to manage with his brain, not his heart. Try to be less of a player's manager. Manage to win, not to make friends.
  17. Don't get all hot and bothered about this one. We were due for a loss anyways. This Brewers team is good but we certainly are not the type of team to rattle off 7,8,9 wins in a row. I say that confidently because we are too inconsistent of a hitting team. Our batting averages may look good but truthfully, this team is very hit or miss when it comes to swinging the bats and we are especially horrible vs. pitchers making their MLB debut or callups from AAA. Having strikeout prone hitters throughout your lineup is never a helpful thing either. Finally, I back up my point about stringing wins together by making you aware of the fact we have Ben Hendrickson and Dana Eveland in our rotation now. Neither of those two guys strike fear into anyone.
  18. I have no problem with Ned trying to milk Davis out for everything he's got tonight. If I'm Ned, I'm thinking to myself with Hendrickson on the mound tomorrow, we may need to empty the bullpen and bring in everyone we've got to get through that one.
  19. Well, I was at the game today and was quite impressed by the late inning heroics yet again from the Crew. I will man-up and soften my stance from a few days back when I said Jenks doesn't come through in the clutch. He has proven me wrong the last two games and I acknowledge his game winning, timely hits. All and all, it was a great baseball game to watch. The Phillies young pitcher will be very good and seems to really know how to pitch. To sweep a team like PHI and take two of three from NYM tells me we can swing the bats with the big boys in the NL and should be right there in the thick of things for the forseeable future.
  20. I like the guy and all but...does anyone else notice the way Craig Coshun's "questions" to the players simply are synopses of various statements that the players merely must add on to....for instance...you may see something along the lines of: Craig: "Brady, this team rallies to win these games. You've been in the league awhile and know what this does for a team going forward. This type of win sparks a lineup and really picks up the pitching staff that faltered in the top half of the 9th." Brady: "Yeah, these wins are big. Anytime you're in a close game, you want to find a way to pull it out." Just watch Craig interview. He really never asks a "question."
  21. No complaints about the simple double to the wall, though. Thata boy Jenkins!! Correction there: It was a SINGLE to the wall. The prettiest single I've ever seen before.
  22. Well, what does this do for Turnbow's confidence? You bring in a soft tossing pitcher to retire the best hitters on the Phillies instead of the closer who up until a few days ago has been relatively flawless this year? Sometimes Ned's logic baffles me. Why not continue the trend of 9th inning victories....get some runs!
  23. It's plays like this that make you very appreciative of a guy like Billy Hall. The depth we have and the ability to just plug Hall in the everyday lineup at SS and not lose a beat makes a horrible play like that a little easier to fathom. It looked like a classic broken ankle play to me, but for the sake of J.J. I hope it "looked" a lot worse than it actually was and he only sprained it.
  24. If last season taught me anything, it's not to panic if Jenkins starts off slowly. Without looking at his career stats, I think it's safe to say he's a second half hitter. If he's not Mashing in July, Aug., and Sept., I'll agree that he's having a disappointing season. But until then I think he's earned the benifit of the doubt. My point is that I do not think it is too much to ask that Jenkins put together more than just one good half to the season. I want my 3-hitter to put together an entire season of production. One half of the season is not good enough. My point is that if a player eats up as much of the payroll as Jenkins does, its not out of the realm of thinking that I would expect more than .275/25HR/80-90RBI. My opinion is that money can be better spent on talent who will do more throughout the entire season to warrant that pay. Pay Carlos Lee and bring in another SP.
