  1. I love how Sutton kept saying "ace" Sheets over and over again tonight. I think he's saying it so he won't drift back into the realistic realm which clearly shows Capuano as our staff ACE. An ace can be counted on to keep your team in the game day in and day out. Capuano has not given up more than 3 earned runs in any of his 6 starts this season and his 18 wins speak for themselves. Sheets career record is 56-64 (*65 pending tonight's outcome). 9 games under .500 is an ace? Please. And for those who suggest wins and losses do not solely determine a pitcher's worth, I agree. But come on, great pitchers (ie. staff aces) find ways to win. Whether it be with the glove on D, their stick on offense, or pure athleticism and bearing down when it counts, that's what determines one's worth. That being said, Chris Capuano IS the Brewers ace. In a game 7, give me this guy any day of the week over the erratic Sheets.
  2. Sheets is due for a win. It's nice to see regardless of the final game vs. ATL that we already WON the series. It's been quite awhile since we could say that. Would be nice to build a little momentum before heading into the Windy city to face everyone's favorite team: the Cubbies!
  3. Weeks needs to go to the outfield and Davis is no better than a # 5 starter at this point and time I totally agree with this comment. Wouldn't Rickie look good right about now in CF? 1) Weeks CF 2) Hardy SS 3) Fielder 1B 4) Lee LF 5) Jenkins RF 6) Hall 2B 7) Koskie 3B http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif Miller C That's the best we could put out there as of right now. Notice Prince in the 3-hole. Can you imagine how he'd hit with El Caballo protecting him? Sheets Campy Davis Bush Ohka is what the rotaion should look like Good try there. I would take it. But if we're going by results alone, I would like to see a rotation of... 1) Sheets 2) Capuano 3) Bush 4) Davis 5) Ohka Would give us a R-L-R-L-R rotation and would reward those who are pitching well and give us a better chance to win against other #2's and 3's in the league.
  4. Positives from today: -Prince: dude can flat out rake. -Koskie: he can hit HR's! I was beginning to wonder if he'd ever hit one out again. Nice to see Prince was on for him. -Cappy: He's the "real" number 2 of this staff. He at least goes right at hitters and doesn't nibble like another lefty starter that we have. -Tbow/Wise: Stopped the bleeding from the rough outings our bullpen has turned in as of late. Good to see the finesse-power combo work out well tonight. Negatives from today: -Cubs come back to win after trailing 3-0 for practically the entire game and taking the "L" off of Zambrano's back. -Rickie Weeks ridiculously bad fielding. He has no problems fielding...its all about the throwing. How long can we continue to have his terrible fielding at 2B hurt this team before Yost makes a move? I'm waiting for at least 3-4 blown games because of multiple Weeks' errors before Yost starts losing it. -Brady Clark: he's having problems up there right now. He sure the heck is not "seeing the ball well" as some believe. We saw him hit .300+ last year and he's definitely not in that zone and really should be spelled by Gross very soon.
  5. < bucksman-- are you complaining again????> Believe me, I wish I didn't have to. Please do let me know when I say something that isn't true though, okay? Here's the perfect time for the ol Uke line..."a couple of grand slammers and we're right back in this one."
  6. You couldn't give me free tickets to see a pathetic outing like this. That seems to be the key word of the day: pathetic. That word is applicable to the pitching, first and foremost....the defense ala Rickie Weeks...the hitters making Harang look like an all-star and showing no patience whatsoever at the plate....blowing a series to the Reds losing 3 of 4 at HOME....not showing any signs of consistency from any standpoint this season....and the list goes on and on. And let me say something else...this Lehr guy is a AAA pitcher...so is Demaria and Mike Adams....Jorge De La Rosa can't hit the broad side of a barn this year and Dan Kolb can't get healthy. Our pitching outside of Sheets, Cappy, Bush, and Turnbow is less than stellar. Look at the team ERA.
  7. Please do not even insinuate the word "quality" with anything associated with Douglas Davis' outing today.
  8. Davis should take the WHOLE TEAM out for a steak dinner tonight. If he gets some run support here and ends up with the "W," it would be a miracle and defy the baseball gods.
  9. Great play there by Billy. He's showing great range over there at SS and making all the plays as per usual. Now, about DD....I said this the last time he pitched and its beginning to seem like second nature to expect lots of walks because our number "2" pitcher doesn't like to "give in." That's pretty sad that we rely on a guy with his mediocre stuff to be second in line to Sheets. His command is as bad as any pitcher in the majors. I watch a lot of baseball and I do not see anyone nibble as much as him and not confident in his own "stuff" to get batters out.
  10. Seriously though, how much of the fault lies on Ned Yost for the downward spiral we've been in for the last few weeks? Is it really bad managing or just poor execution from the pitching staff and hitting when it counts? I think that it is the latter. We just don't ever seem to come clutch (unless Gabe Gross is pinch hitting) and it just seems like these losses are carrying over to the next game. A series like this at home your goal should be to take 3 games. Now everything has to go right for us to just gain a split. Something's not right here. I personally think that in the second half, we'll start to come together much like the Astros did last year to make their post-season run. My only fear is that losing too many of these kind of games this early in the season may put us too far behind the eight-ball in our comeback efforts when the season hits its grind in July and August.
  11. Listen to you guys...all this negativity. You guys shouldn't care that we lost 9 of the last 12. You should be all positive 24/7 and think about all the good things (Ben Sheets....churp, churp)....that we accomplished tonight. I can't take all this pessimistic chat.
  12. Alright, my last comment of the night will be that I did tend to post more negatively tonight because it was very frustrating to see us hand this game away to an inferior team. I apologize if I offended anyone by anything I said and I do not want anyone to take any perceived "negative" comments personally. It's just venting. Maybe I belong in the venting thread on games like todays. I hope that for the majority of the '06 season I will have many more positive comments than negative ones to say in here. You make it seem like I want them to lose. I want them to win as much as anyone on this message board. I will take your comments into consideration and try hard not to post when the wheels are totally falling off the wagon as I seemed to do today.
  13. valpocrewsader ....thank you. You're exactly right. I wasn't being facetious at all with my comments. If anything, I was proving that I really could be positive no matter what a certain person may think.
  14. Well, you quoted my comments about waiting to see a positive comment from you and replied with a negative comment, as to mock me. So, I guess that makes me think you're a troll. The ball's in your court (wrong sports metaphor, I know). You must be really looking to pinpoint me. Did I get under your skin that badly? Sometimes the truth hurts. If you go back and read the comment I wrote, it was a POSITIVE comment. I commented how well Prince was hitting and actually how well the 4-8 hitters have been. If you're trying to spin my words, that's your problem. Take a chill pill and remember that not everything is meant as sarcasm.
  15. Have it your way. I guess you're on "troll watch", then. What is that supposed to mean?
  16. And I agree with your comments right here. Troy Glaus looks like a glamorous signing but he is hardly consistent and really isn't the type of guy who can carry a team on his shoulders and expect a great AVG or OPS from. Plus, with his injury history and the fact he really has had only 1 fully healthy season in the last 3 years, it wouldn't bode well in Melvin's "low-risk" type of player acquisitions he typically desires.
  17. Well, thats where youth comes into play. Tough situations like that you have to rely on 22 and 23 year olds to get the job done. It's not the ideal type of situation to be in for a playoff-contending team.
  18. Clutch hitting from our 4-8 batters tonight. That's good to see our '05 automatic outs really coming through for us lately. Prince is showing me and hopefully Ned that the time is now to move him into the 3 spot and put Jenks back at 5 where he seems more comfortable.
  19. I don't understand how you can qualify my entire posting history in a statement like that. I bet the majority of my posts have been encouraging posts about the Brewers. First of all, I'm a Brewers fan and shouldn't have to defend that point. Secondly, if someone speaks negatively about the team, it's as if blasphemy is occurring. Please. Wake up and realize that dissention is the key to good banter. That's why so many of the posters on here dislike Peter Brown. He openly says that Brewers fans except mediocrity and criticizes Attanasio for only having brought on Carlos Lee as his only true big money acquisition. Why not spend the money to get a Hernandez or Molina he says. He's right. Why can't people look beyond all the bells and whistles and see that there could have been improvements made in the bullpen (ie. a Howry or Eyre) type of signing. This is after all brewerfan.net NOT allpositivenomatterwhat.net.
  20. I don't think so. I think that more bad things have been happening over the course of the last week than good things, so the chances of me showing up during the bad times increases exponentially as the team performs terribly. When your pitching is as bad as ours and can't keep the team in a game, I want to know what "good" someone can find in that. Please enlighten me if you can find something. As bad as this staff is, I don't see us anywhere near .500 this season. I'm sure a lot of people (not in a Brewers chat room) would think I'm the "voice of reason." Think about it.
  21. Jenkins is awesome. Especially with runners on base or in scoring position. There, that's me being positive.
  22. Absolutely not. I would like to be positive. But when the team plays like this and our pitching is absolutely embarrassing, where is the silver lining of positive thoughts? Ask Mike Adams if he can think of anything positive to say right now.
  23. Constant complaining is your idea of the voice of reason? If there's nothing to be postive about, then should I just sit here and give play-by-play like some people or should I comment when they make bonehead plays? If you want me to live in a fantasy world and be all "rah-rah" then I would be classified as a "homer." I would be the equivalent of the brainwashed Cubbie fans whose team can do no wrong no matter what. I'm an intelligent fan and am not afraid to criticize my team when they're stinking up the joint.
  24. < So you were just sitting here? If they never blew it you never would have commented? Pathetic...> I wasn't just sitting at the computer reading all of your comments...I was doing other things and listening to Uke. Pathetic is fans who try to spin negative occurrences in the games into oopsie-type plays or pitchers getting rocked into "great" hitting by Cincy. Take some accountability...if they're stinking it up, someone has to come in as the voice of reason. That person is me.
  25. I was waiting for either the offense, defense, pitching or all of the above to screw up as they usually do.
