  1. I was previously interested in Kyle Seager but I think I'm being seduced by his high end 2016 season. For 2020 he's probably not an assured upgrade over Eric Sogard.
  2. And the flip side of that argument is the fact that the Brewers let him go. If they thought it was likely he would return to form they would have worked something out. Ultimately, all we can do is see how this plays out.
  3. I have a hard time believing that Nelson will be one of the Dodgers top 13 pitchers out of spring training. And since he can refuse assignment to the minors, they might have to pay him $1 million for basically nothing (not that the Dodgers are hurting for cash). If Nelson wanted a chance to make a starting rotation staying with the Brewers was a better plan. Does anyone know if Stearns tried to get him back into the fold?
  4. I would have liked to see Jimmy Nelson back on a similar deal, however, I think it's more likely than not that he will never be an effective MLB pitcher again. That said, I hope he makes it all the way back to his 2017 self.
  5. Mr. Juliano, what you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent tweet were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on the internet is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
  6. I would be interested in Jed Lowrie. The Mets are looking to dump him. I realize his 2019 was a washout due to injury but in 2017 and 2018 he put up 4+ WAR seasons. I think he's the most reasonable way to get 4 WAR player into the lineup at third. If he continues to get injured you still have Eric Sogard as a backup plan. Of course this all depends on him having a clean bill of health heading into 2020. As depleted as the Brewers farm system is I'm not interested in trading prospects for a 3B. Lowrie could be had for basically nothing other than salary.
  7. There is a zero percent chance the number of umpires will be reduced. If anything, a 5th umpire will be added to monitor the electronic balls and strikes and to serve as an eye in the sky.
  8. It's possible he likes juice but it's not the ball. He wouldn't be the first person to look for some pharmaceutical help where an age 30-something season (2018) was so bad a repeat performance would put them out of the league for good. He's parlayed his age 33 season into $4.5 million.

  10. They need to find a place in the OF bleachers they can call the "Smoaking Section." Preferably where he will deposit plenty of HR's.

  12. Fansided reflects the bad side of the new media. It has a professional look but clearly many/most/all of the articles are written by amateurs. Sometimes I'll be researching a topic and click a Fansided article without thinking about it. Nearly every time I get about three sentences in and ask myself, "who wrote this?" Then I scroll up and see it's another Fansided article.
  13. Ok, I'm starting to warm up to this deal. I would have been fine with bringing Eric Thames back and I don't know that this is a downgrade. I do hope they keep him away from LHP though. I guess my bigger beef is if they go with Eric Sogard as the primary 3B. That would not be good.
  14. This deal sucks. I'm at work so I can't get into more detail but just wanted to exercise my fan right to state my displeasure.
  15. The Brewers do not need anyone who is a modest offensive producer who'll top 150Ks with regular playing time. According to MrAllen, Villar is worth $36 million a year.
  16. If Sogard is expected to fill the Hernan Perez role, I don't mind this move. A little too much money but not shocking given the current market. But if he is expected to get a majority of the starts at 3B I'm going to be very disappointed with this.
  17. Over the last two years the Brewers +13 differential versus their pythag is the second largest margin behind only Baltimore at -14, so over the last two years anyway, pyhtag has been awfuller at predicting the Brewers record than all but 28 other teams. Full list if anyone is curious... BAL -14 MKE +13 LAD -11 SEA +11 WAS -10 KCR -9 SFG +9 ARI -7 CIN -7 CLE -7 HOU -6 COL +6 PHI +6 CHC -5 NYY +5 MIN +5 ATL +4 TBR +4 CHW +3 PIT +3 DET -2 BOS +2 OAK +2 NYM -1 STL -1 LAA -1 TEX -1 SDP +1 MIA +1 TOR 0 And what I'm saying is that I would not bet on that to continue in 2020.
  18. I would say we disagree as to what the word "awful" means. 2019 +8 2018 +5 2017 +1 2016 -1 Pythagorean record is not perfect, but it is a meaningful statistic to consider when evaluating a team's performance over a full season.
  19. Reds starters 2019: 4.12 ERA (92 ERA-) Brewers starters 2019: 4.40 ERA (99 ERA-) Reds wins 2019: 75 Brewers wins 2019: 89 Somehow Stearns & company won 14 more games than the Reds last year even though their rotation was 7% worse by ERA. I'd say the bad look is trying to find the negative in every transaction Stearns & company do or don't make when they clearly know more than we do & have the track record of success to prove it. I would keep in mind the Reds Pythagorean record had them with 80 wins while the Brewers were at 81. I think the two teams were much closer together in performance than the final records would indicate.
  20. Miley must have read this thread and told his agent to get him signed pronto.
  21. Jimmy Nelson was in the 2018 rotation? I must have missed that.
  22. It does fill a hole that does exist, though. This moves Braun to 1B, and fills 40-50 games of OF at bats with a good hitter instead of Gamel. They need bats, and this fills that need. Love their creativity in filling these holes, even if they did pay a lot. $10m for 40-50 OF games is strong money to pay.
  23. Overall, probably similar to Moose but younger. I think this is pretty solid. Except Moose played 3B. Which is still a hole.
  24. I think it's fair to have doubts. I hope you stick around, and that Garcia plays well enough to serve you a helping of crow I would love to be wrong in this case.
  25. I'm not a fan of this deal and think the Brewers will regret at the end of 2020. Too much money to fill a hole that didn't exist.
