  1. Seriously? You don't have to be a Dodgers fan to not be offended by this turn of events. While I don't like what's going down, I am thoroughly amused with the people claiming the Dodgers are "cheating" or somehow ruining baseball for everyone or demanding changes to the CBA.
  2. I bet it doesn't.
  3. You can still go to the ballpark for a reasonable amount of money. In Milwaukee the basic ticket prices are not insane (yet) and ticket deals are out there if you look. You can tailgate and eat your own food and even bring things into the stadium to eat and drink. And you can watch nearly every game on TV if you want with nothing more than the cost of basic cable or the right streaming service. In the 1970's and 1980's how many TV games did we get a year? Nothing close to what we get now. The game is accessible if you want it to be. The biggest problem going forward is not cost but the younger generations that have an attention span that does not exceed 60 seconds. Edit - Does anyone know how many games a year were televised for the Brewers in the 70's and 80's? As I recall it was only about 20-30. That said, I lived in the Madison media market during that time so maybe they carried only a small portion of what the Milwaukee market was getting.
  4. The big money the Dodgers will make from the Japanese market is advertising--not jersey and t-shirt sales.
  5. The more I read about the deal the less stupid it looks to me. Personally, I think Andrew Friedman is the best baseball executive in MLB so I don't usually expect him to make dumb decisions. Between the extra revenue from Japanese business endeavors and the deferrals, I think the Dodgers will make the contract work. Plus, unlike the Blue Jays, they are one of the teams most able to absorb a bad contract (if it were to come to that) due to the massive amount of revenue they generate. I feel bad for Blue Jays fans who were done dirty by jump the gun baseball writers.
  6. But keep in mind if he gave up pitching and wasn't rehabbing his elbow, after 2024 he could easily play OF or 1B. Perhaps not CF but he could absolutely contribute to a defense.
  7. Not so fast my friend: With Ohtani and Yamamoto they would own the Japanese market.
  8. Not a fan of Babe Ruth I take it...
  9. Dodgers will probably turn around and buy Yamamoto and Blake Snell as well. They don't need to trade for Burnes.
  10. Andrew Friedman doesn't do a lot of stupid deals. But this is one of them.
  11. Nathan Eovaldi is one of the few pitchers to come back effectively from 2x TJ surgery. The overall record is not good. If Ohtani were signing a 1 or 2 year deal it would be a different story. We do not know how effective he will be as a pitcher in the future. BTW - After his 2nd TJ surgery Eovaldi was released by the Yankees and then signed to a 1 year deal for $2 million by the Rays, which is a massively different level of risk.
  12. 2x Tommy John. There's no guarantee he ever pitches effectively again. But if a team wants to risk $500 million on it they can go right ahead. This contract has disaster written all over it.
  13. That's a lot of money for a DH.
  14. I wouldn't count on Burnes. I think he gets traded.
  15. I like Miley when he pitches, but at 37 there's a pretty strong chance he's going to spend a good chunk of 2024 on the IL. Oh well, I guess the cost of doing business in MLB is to pay a lot of pitchers to sit on the IL. It has gotten ridiculous. If you want a good laugh look at Baseball Reference team pages for teams in the 1980's and before. Lots of teams used no more than 15 different pitchers for the season. Last season the Brewers used 34.
  16. You talk about a roll of the dice. This is it.
  17. That might be true. But non-tendering a guy slated to get paid something like $11 million to not throw a pitch for the team in 2024 is not evidence supporting the assertion.
  18. Are people here on drugs? Tendering Woodruff would have put the Brewers on the hook for around $11 million with a great likelihood he doesn't throw a single pitch for them in 2024. This is not about the Brewers/Attanasio being cheap. They would have been crazy to tender him. Which is exactly why no one was interested in trading for him for even a used jock strap.
  19. Non-tendering Woodruff was the right thing to do.
  20. I wonder if Woodruff qualifies for COBRA health insurance? 😄
  21. Stupid? He likely won't pitch in 2024. The Brewers would have been stupid to tender him.
  22. He said Dem majority leader. The Dem leader in the State Senate is the Dem Minority leader because the Dems are in the minority.
  23. The Dodgers would be a good fit. They need high end SP and they have the prospects to deal. And they have the resources to extend Burnes.
