  1. The Syackkkkkks are dripping in Zebulon with nary an out for the Mudcats! LET'S GO! What's more? The red hot Juan Baez is to the dish! Let's see a rally men!
  2. This just in: Down East is still really good. They play such good defense and they have a collective physical presence reminiscent of the physical presence of the Kernels of last year's Midwest League. THey continue to lead the Mudcats 3-0 into the 8th frame.
  3. Adams at 1B is such an weapon with his athleticism. He has beat out about 4 runners to 1B with athletic scoops and turns and sprints to get the runners out. It eliminates any botched tosses or gathers. Just a weapon. He continues to validate my belief that is likely his best position (at least in the near term).
  4. AND, just as I say that he throws a nasty 2-2 curve ball for the final out of the Wood Ducks 7th. Should have 3 K. That'll count for his 2nd officially. Beautiful pitch!
  5. Osbriel Mogollon gives me saerious Andy Otero vibes. Diminutive in stature. Savvy. Good off-speed tools. A heater that plays and rides because of the impactful off-speed. He's looked very much like he belongs in his first full-season action. Really nice to see it!
  6. Yophery strikes out swinging and he doesn't look particularly good doing it. That was a rough AB for the talented young OF'er.
  7. Baez has started 2024 red hot. He just smoked his second ball of the evening for a lead-off single in the bottom of the 6th. Let's get a mini rally going, lads! Mudcats still trail 3-0.
  8. A beautiful piece of fielding from Nicasia-to Briceno-to Pratt to grab the out at 2B after a ball off the wall saw the batter round a step to far. Wonderful piece of fundamental baseball - starting with Nicasia's adept corral reading the angle and dart to the relay man. He has a really good arm - been saying it for a year.
  9. Ernesto Martinez is in the zone. He gets the first hit of the game here in the top of the 2nd with a broken bat liner flare to shallow LF. When you are in the zone you get knocks like that. Good result!
  10. I have a hard time telling you how good Shook's change-up looks. My goodness the life on that pitch is glorious. He goes a scoreless first frame and he looked in control and dialed in doing it. Love it.
  11. Mogollon takes the hill in relief to start the 5th for the Mudcats. His first Low-A inning. He looks good so far - even with the ump blowing a beautiful strike 3 call on his 2nd batter. AND, RHP TJ Shook starts his 2024 season with his change-up looking like the Ace pitch that it is for his first K of 2024. Beautiful pitch.
  12. Aquino's slider looks absolutely fantastic to start this season. Just so much life to that pitch. Consider me very impressed through two innings.
  13. Meanwhile, Biloxi and Mississippi are in a weather delay already. Boooo!
  14. Matt Wood's turn: hits into a DP. Just after a SS error avoided Barrios' DP ball. LOL. Adams moves to 3rd base. Two down.
  15. INF Luke Adams' first High-A hit was about a 20 mph topped dribbler up the 3B line. Fielded by the catcher...but Adams outran the coverage. It will go down a single regardless! Mark it down!
  16. Aquino starts 2024 off with his off-speed tools looking filthy. Lotta vertical and horizontal movement. He just picked up a K followed by a high pop up off the mound on two dirty looking off-speed offerings. 0-0 on to the 2nd in South Bend.
  17. All I am seeing across the system so far is hitting into DP's! LOL. O'Rae leads off in South Bend with a single to CF. Lara hits smack dab into a DP even with O'Rae running for 2B.
  18. My guy Nicasia breaks the six consecutive Mudcats mowed down (4 K) by hitting a hard grounder up the middle. A man on base! Woot woot! All for naught as Briceno tops a groundball directly to the charging SS who completes the DP. The Wood Ducks starter has so far faced the minimum as we head to the 4th and the Muddies trailing 3-0.
  19. Just hung a dead center cut fastball on an 0-2 count and nearly paid for it as it went deep to the RF wall but about a foot foul. He is not locating consistently. He has stuff that plays but he is consistently not locating and suffering for it.
  20. Rodriguez has been fine - 3 K - BUT he is just hanging and errantly locating way too many off-speed pitches. Just dead center hangers. And, to a pitch, each one has been smashed deep. he just gave up a long ball over the LF wall on another dead center hanging breaking ball. Mudcats trail 3-0.
  21. Nick Stanley's faith in his lefty bats versus a lefty starter is certainly not paying dividends early. Lotta strikes swinging and looking. First time through the order and the lefty dominant bats are overmatched.
  22. A very nice recovery 1-2-3 2nd inning for Rodriguez. He got hit deep to the CF wall where Rodriguez ran it down but also got a weak pop to LF and a K. Settle in, young man. Keep it going.
  23. Down East RF'er Marcus Smith just made a heck of a play on a hard hit Baez lead-off ground ball down the right field line. He scooped it in deep foul territory and fired an absolute dart to the second base mitt tagging Baez in a bang-bang effort. Just an incredible throw. Mudcats trail 2-0 here in the bottom of the first.
  24. First look at RHP Manuel Rodriguez. One thought early: he is hanging sliders. Two blasts deep off the Right CF wall resulted in a triple and a double. Also: Yophery Rodriguez is learning how to play those long balls. He over ran the first blast (a hanger slider mistake - Garcia asked for outside corner it went dead center cut) by a good 15 feet and it resulted in the three bags. These XBH's all came after a fast two outs for Rodriguez. It all came to the meat of the order. Will be quite interesting to see what happens should he make it a 2nd and 3rd time through the order.
  25. So far we will be seeing RHP Patricio Aquino for Wisco, RHP TJ Shook for Biloxi, and RHP Janson Junk for Nashville (he'll be looking to rebound from a sub-par debut after his return from illness). As of this am, we are still TBD for Carolina's opener vs Down East.
