  1. Renfroe is a short-term cost but the Brewers had very limited flexibility heading into the offseason. Offloading that $11m gives them the ability to shuffle those funds around in the short-term. We'll see if that was the right decision or not but it makes sense from the team perspective. As for trading one pitcher, it really depends on the return. If Arnold subscribes to the "bite of the apple" approach, the 2024-onward Brewers could easily be a better team if one of Burnes/Woodruff is traded while the other is extended. To me, the biggest question mark is pitching development. The Brewers obviously had an amazing run of developing Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Hader, Lauer, etc. Can they do it again? If they can, trading a starter today makes a lot of sense and is the Brewer equivalent to what the Tampa Bay Rays do on a near-yearly basis. It's not great from a fan perspective but it's the reality of the game (and at least the Brewers post a respectable payroll YoY, unlike the Rays).

  3. I mean, money. Security. And some guys like staying with the only organization they've known. People have a million reasons to do or not do any single thing. And if they're worried about being traded in three years, demand a no-trade clause. It's usually one of the first concessions a team will make in extension talks.

  5. I mean, Jim Gantner's glasses alone were worth a win or two per season.
  6. I think this signifies nothing, except... The Brewers plan to do something significant with money. I doubt that's going to be a big free agent signing but more along the lines of extending Burnes or Woodruff. On top of that, I think they're going to trade the other for a big return. It should be a wild offseason.

  8. Not really, WAR is adjusted for position and includes defense. Renfroe was fourth on the team in offensive WAR by B-Ref. He was behind Adames, Urias, Yelich, and Wong.

  10. Oh, they'll be starting a bunch of rookies, that's almost a given. They don't have a lot of choice unless they raise payroll by a lot. But in a vacuum, it's hard to judge this trade. The return is certainly underwhelming but also, it's the Angels. Maybe the Brewers plucked untapped talent from one of the worst development organizations in baseball. But all in all, offseasons should not be judged before Christmas, much less Thanksgiving. In the modern game, it's often hard to evaluate an offseason the day pitchers and catchers report. There are so many moves left to make or not make and looking at one move in isolation doesn't give a good picture of anything.
  11. He’s a 2-ish win player for $11m. That’s hardly a steal but it’s useful production at a reasonable price.

  13. This is really the crux of the trade from the Brewers' perspective. The Angels are a train wreck and only time will tell if the Brewers just hood-winked LA.
  14. What makes you think the players received for Hader are junk? Both are good prospects. This trade, maybe not so much. Let's hope the Brewers are seeing something the Angels do not, which is entirely possible given that they're the Angels.

  16. Search, profile pages, and feeds should now be functioning properly. If there is anything else I missed, please let me know. Thanks!
  17. Pretty hard to be excited about this in any way, shape, or form. Renfroe is a very capable bat on a team that badly needed capable bats last offseason.

  19. Whereabouts? I went to high school in San Diego and college at Long Beach State.
  20. Welcome to the site!
  21. The underline makes sense with the Twins because what’s underlined is “win”. It’s a fun little touch. Yeah, the TC jerseys are gone. I don’t have a strong opinion about that. I like the TC a lot but am fine with it being only on the hat.
  22. I'm changing up how we do rumors a bit to improve SEO and draw in more users. So if you come across a new rumor you want to start a thread about, do not start it in this forum! Instead, go here: https://brewerfanatic.com/milwaukee-brewers-free-agents-trade-rumors/ Click "Add Rumor" and type up your post (with link or tweet, as you usually would). The system will automatically post the thread into this forum with "Rumor:" prefacing the topic. Why do this? SEO and Google's general dislike of forums. I'm working really hard to draw in new users and we're running +80-100% over what BrewerFan was getting... but we're still thousands of users a day below where we need to be to create a self-sustaining community and website. By creating this new section of the site dedicated specifically to free agent and trade rumors, I'm able to broadcast the posts across social media much more effectively, on top of Google respecting the non-forum origin of the content. But from the forum side of things, the difference to all of you is non-existent. I appreciate all of you pivoting on this a little to help the site draw in more users.

  23. Baseball was a very different world not all that long ago. As mentioned in the article, Sabathia started 17 games for the Brewers. He went seven or more innings in 13 of those starts.

  25. I like everything except the M hat, which is just meh to me. The Twins badly needed a redesign, their overall brand was sloppy and all over the place. This unifies their look a lot more. Still not as good as the Brewers, though, who have some of the best iconography in sports.
