  1. Cap. The unlimited payroll of the Dodgers is why small market teams like the Brewers fall short, no matter how well they are run. The floor is just something to make a cap more palatable to the players.
  2. I'm not so sure of that. I don't think Cubs fans like him right now.
  3. After a 12-4 start to May, I hope all the predictions fall short, except the fanciful 27-0 and the slightly impossible 100-0 (unless that's the prediction for today's score against the Cubs). Since the highest win prediction was 17, that would mean only a 5-5 finish to the month.
  4. Fitting that the last out was a tough chance for Oritz.
  5. If you are looking at baseball-reference, their WAR really hates first base.
  6. But in that case, Bubba came in with a 5 run lead and Pittsburgh extended it to 9. Patrick did 4 innings with no cushion at all.
  7. SD defense looks like they slept through spring training.
  8. The Padres should be about 500 with that run differential. So the Brewers should help them get there.
  9. It's not unusual for a pitcher to look at third in that situation, since it wasn't a great bunt. But Hamilton's speed is unusual.
  10. Miz is one of the few pitchers with intimidating stuff. It's good enough that he can get away with the occasional mistake. If he was more wild, Randy Johnson would be a good comparison, but Randy didn't really become great until he hit 30. So far this year, Miz's control has really taken a step up, but we are dealing with the ever popular small sample size. On other factor with extending Miz is that nobody knows what is going to happen with the new CBA. That might swing the economics in favor of the Brewers being able to sign him. Or not. Hoping that MLB will do something that will work to the Brewers favor often feels like hoping Santa Claus will bring you a winning lottery ticket.
  11. There's something special about sweeping the Yankees. Maybe they can do it again in October.
  12. They can wear any uniform they want if they shutout the Yankees.
  13. Even if both are still a little rusty, they should have no problems exceeding the production of Perkins and Jones.
  14. If this happened against the Brewers, I'd be annoyed and frustrated. As it is, I'm enjoying every minute of it,
  15. If LA's overspending brings in a salary cap (and floor, or a good raise to the minimum wage), I'll be ok with it for this season. Otherwise Dodger Stadium can slide into the ocean.
  16. This is like yesterday's winning rally, except the balls have been intentionally bunted.
