  1. My gut tells me he winds up in a corner a la Wilkin. But above & beyond that, yikes. Not pretty.
  2. Let's remember, they expand to 28. As unpopular as this may be, they could add a Nashville bat & still keep Anderson (not advocating for that, just speculating). I think Black would be a decent fit (that's the direction I'd go). I could also see them giving him more regular ABs in Nashville & calling up Owen Miller. Bringing them both back & cutting Anderson would make sense, if they think the defensive work Blacks' done in AAA is sustainable. The more I think about Donaldson the less likely I feel that could happen. Dorrian has pop, but K's vs AAA pitching are a little too high for my taste. Personally I'd prefer Devanney over him, esp on the defensive side. And IMO there's no way you'll see Tellez, Santana and Hiura on the same roster.
  3. I mean, they scored 64 runs in those nine games. The Braves or Dodgers wouldn't keep up that pace, much less us. The attainable target for this team offensively is somewhere between that & the "This isn't a playoff team, they can't compete" whining from June & July. Canha puts up real good ABs, he's helped win games. Santana's done the same, albeit with not quite the same consistency. And while I don't know if he'll sustain it, Tellez' ABs have been pretty impressive since he's returned. They'll be fine if the run prevention stays strong, and it was more than good enough the last three games.
  4. I know Baez has struggled with the glove. Any of our gurus have an opinion as to where you might project him, position-wise?
  5. I was thinking the same thing. But then they signed Fernando Abad. He still might make it up here at some point in Sept. but not holding my breath.
  6. I assume the Angels pulled Renfroe back. He played for them today.
  7. Which to me is refreshing. WHAT!?! WE CAN'T ALL GO TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER?? HOW UNFAIR!!!! 😫.
  8. I did not know that. With what, 5-6 more starts scheduled? That's potentially significant.
  9. If nothing else, I'm sure Elly De La Hype will statcast 'em to death.
  10. I'll take the same performance from Burnes & Woodruff against them--or anyone else--every time & take my chances.
  11. And I'm pretty sure the over-riding number that compelled the trade wasn't 5 million. More like .145. He's also cooled off quite a bit after his Sportscenter Highlight moments.
  12. I think people wanting to see him simply think they'd be a better team with him as another option, not as some sort of "save the season" guy. He'd be another piece. Just like Canha, Santana, and a whole bunch of regulars that won games for them over the course of the season. My biggest concern is his defense at AAA, and it's been solid.
  13. I'm with ya. But the very first batter Woodruff faced, he was squeezed monumentally, and it cost a run. Other than that, I thought balls & strikes were mostly OK.
  14. Two things stuck out to me. One, what may have cost us the game is not being able on two occasions to throw strikes to Mike Tauchman, once due to the umpire deciding not to call the edges in the bottom of the 1st. Two, Frelick came to the plate a couple times in the game w/runners on, a situation I love seeing him in. Both times, for whatever reason, he was saddled with the "Welcome to the big leagues, rookie" strike zone & was taken way out of his comfort zone. that's tough when you've never faced Hendricks before. After the HBP to tie the game, I also would've liked to see Turang in a little more of a "pressure's on you, pitcher" mode instead of taking a ball, then swinging.
  15. I'd have bet a few dog biscuits Santana was going to get another day off w/the team day tomorrow. Good to see him back at 1B. Agree with Jake. There's some length to this batting order.
  16. What's impressed me about Black, outside of the obvious, is he's played errorless ball since moving to N'ville. It could be a very interesting off-day on Thursday. I suspect there are different names being considered, including a couple that wouldn't excite people on this board. I have no regret re Urias. I think he needed a change of scenery.
  17. If they have some in-depth talks with the guy & decide everything would be OK, I trust the brain trust. But I think the above quote is probably an overriding factor. And other than maybe being PH for late vs a LHP if trailing, I'm not all that big on Turangs' PT being cut.
  18. Steele did tonight, with the slider, what he's done to a lot of people. I really didn't see many location mistakes or wildness from any of the guys they rolled out, and taking that into consideration I didn't think our ABs were all that bad--not get-shutout bad, anyway. Seven hits agin some pretty good pitching, just not the famous "next hit". Adames put up a great AB in the first, went for naught. Three well-struck balls in the last 2 innings. Gomes made a huge play on the steal attempt. Guessing there's railing on here about Wiemer starting over Frelick. If so, I agree. But to take it a step further, if Wiemer plays there's no way he should be hitting sixth. Good to see Uribes' work tonite after the clownshow over the weekend. Focus all da time, young 'un. It's too bad you have to hit at a certain stat level to be considered for a GG.
  19. I'm glad that he's added the cutter. Not as an important out-getting pitch per se, but to add maybe a tiny bit of doubt as a 3rd pitch, something many closers don't have. And I think he's used it just often enough, meaning not very.
  20. Nice for these pups to get a taste of success right off the bat in their pro careers. Maybe they can make a habit of it.😉
  21. From the neck-up, the type of approach Canha shows is something I think we're transitioning to, and that's a good thing. Frelick. Turang (during the last month). Black. Wilkin & Boeve, if they pan out. Yelich & Contreras, when they don't get over-anxious. Keep doing what he's been doing & he's a huge asset.
  22. The yellow portion of the wall juts out a maybe couple inches from the wall below. His glove was under the jut, and he went straight up after the ball. Glove hits jut. Not making an excuse for him, just explaining what happened.
  23. Magoo wouldn't be bad. Gives the impression he throws 102 but can't really see the plate or hitter very well. Then hit the bull while warming up & you have it made.😁
  24. A thousand times, yes. Fortunately that doesn't seem to be a big thing with Wiemer.
  25. I agree with Gwynns' philosophy re stance. With Wiemer there's just so much movement with the bat though, from the time he sets up to when he commits (or not) to swinging. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned how, in his earlier days in the organization, there wasn't nearly as much movement. How he got from there to here, I don't know. But I think that's concerning. It kinda seems like with all the movement going on, he gives himself less time to make the decision, then attack. That's why balls he can pull with authority, he oftentimes doesn't. Just hoping he can get comfortable with something much simpler. At least there's no front leg-lift to wean him off of.
