  1. What I've noticed his last few times out, is his breaking stuff has either been thrown for a strike, or close enough to get a swing if ahead in the count. That wasn't the case earlier. I too look forward to getting him up on blocks this off-season. Didn't know we had him tied up for 4 more years.
  2. When the Brewers were looking to beef up their catching years ago, there was a rumor or two about them checking in with Miami on Realmuto. I was tempted to tell anyone I conversed with that they wouldn't be able to meet the price, but could probably afford to pick up Fakemuto. Judging by the responses you guys got, I'm glad I never trotted that one out.
  3. Just things I've heard from a source or two. And frankly, if what I've heard is true, I hope he has a change of heart & is at least open to it. There have been a lot of reasons brought up here illustrating why it's a good idea. I agree with those reasons. IMO the throwing arm is maybe the biggest piece of evidence. Many have pointed out the glut of OFs. And not only Chourio, but a guy like Carlos Rodriguez could very well shine in todays' game as a 4th-5th OF. When they went into last off season with Wiemer-Mitchell-Frelick-Ruiz, it was pretty obvious one would go. They may be in a similar spot this winter.
  4. Pretty sure Yelich flat-out doesn't want to move to 1B. For a veteran in his position, that makes it a non-starter. I've referred to Clarke as a RHH, minor league version of Max Muncy. Low BA, power, very high K rate but draws a lot of walks. Has some versatility (he can catch), but I believe that's where his defensive bullet points end. He could wind up on a MLB roster at some point but IMO his best chance to stick somewhere would be as a bench bat/DH. Martinez has opened a few eyes w/his performance since moving to Biloxi. But at the end of the day I think their best chance at filling the position long-term will come from one of the recent draftees.
  5. I suspect that's it. Logic behind it, but not totally defensible IMO though.
  6. Or even now that we won. I'm sure he had a reason. I'd just love to know what it was. Waiting to hear the hard-hitting grilling from Sophia.
  7. Aaaaaaaaaand my interest in exit velo dissipates a little more (oh wait, that isn't possible). Need to hear the idea behind Wiemer hitting rather than Tellez. Happy for king Elvis. He hasn't been AS good in recent weeks, but I still think he's getting a little bit of a bum rap recently.
  8. Eerily reminiscent. The 1st two hits were hit hard, though. And I loved Canhas' AB in that inning. He's someone who takes command of his ABs, seldom chases. Loved the way he steered the ball through the right side.
  9. Nor I. Out of the loop since moving to the lake country, I guess. A modern-day Freeway? It seems like we've had instances this year where we put together a nice road trip, then in our first game back home look "meh" & lose. Would be nice to buck that trend. Would hate to see Frelick IL'd. On the other hand, if he needs some time you can backlog it & by the time the weekend series starts he's already halfway through 10 days.
  10. I remember mentioning on here after Urias was dealt that it wouldn't shock me if he had some good moments in Boston, but that it wouldn't necessarily mean he would've had those moments here, had he stayed. I think it was time. Anderson is clearly the best defensive option at 3B, but the really ugly ABs he's turned in, followed by the IL stint, followed by a lot of inactivity doesn't bode well for him suddenly getting back to being the hitter he was in April & May. I'm guessing with Monasterio (probably) needing a little breather we'll see Anderson a time or two, and if the struggles continue then it becomes a tough call of do you want to jettison the best defender at the position, in favor of someone (Black) who puts up ABs well beyond his years but might be a coinflip with the glove? If it becomes an either/or between those two they may just wait until 9-1, add Black & keep 'em both.
  11. I've been an advocate for Houser going to the pen, mostly because I think his stuff would play well there & it's always nice to have a BP guy that can go 2-3 innings if need be. But the way he's been performing, obviously you don't change a thing. And in a playoff scenario, you can always choose to start him over Miley if the L-R thing screams for a right-hander. He's had some up-and-down to his career. He's up right now, so no way do you mess with him.
  12. So I looked a little closer into Ernesto Martinez' debut at Biloxi. He's walked 10 times with only 3 Ks, in 39 PA's. I know when they signed him they weren't looking for the second coming of David Eckstein, but that's some really impressive plate presence for his first taste of AA.
  13. I think he's coming back to earth a little. Still.......what did he see today, 26-27 pitches? He was right in the middle of some terrific ABs early that helped get Scherzer out of the game. He, and others, made Scherzer work really, really hard. And that was w/o Frelick out there---a guy you'd expect that from. I've been concerned about him at 3B for awhile. Up until now he's shut me up. Two of the next four days off might be a nice tonic for him.
  14. Been watching replays all weekend of him scoring when the Jays threw the ball away. You'd think the guy took a flying leap & landed on the moon.
  15. We did look terrible. But isn't the "Easy to say that now" just as applicable when they run into a bad stretch & the "This is a bad team" comments roll out? It's a marathon.
  16. I think with him it's all about the fine line between driving balls out over the plate to RF, and laying off the balls OFF the plate outside. He does this for awhile, which leads to getting balls to pull, which leads to a nice 5-10 days or whatever. Then it disappears. Stay tuned, I guess.
  17. Megill is sort of a perfect guy to have in these scenarios because he doesn't walk many & throws 100. With Chafin he's never been the type of pitcher to just lay the ball in there, he has to make pitches. So he works with a 5-run lead the same way as if it were 1-2 runs. Which makes him a bad choice if he doesn't come out locating.
  18. What's the old saying........."You're never as good as you think you are after you win, and never as bad as you think you are after reading an IGT". Sorry if this is redundant, but-- I've seen things that suggest Peralta growing up before our very eyes. Going through that 40-pitch 3rd inning, against that team, and only giving up one run might be the biggest piece of evidence yet. My goodness did Semien look lost in his AB vs Uribe. And that's a really good hitter. They didn't come in clutch situations, but two real nice ABs by Wiemer. The rest is pretty obvious. Just a real nice Milwaukee Brewers baseball game. Given the opponent, maybe one of the best 3-4 of the year?
  19. I'll defer to you, then, as I'm sure you've seen Murray more than I have. Perhaps I was going a little too much on "rep" based on what I've heard.
  20. I just don't think he's ready. His last outing was eye-popping for sure. But one of the things you want a guy with his velocity to be able to do is effectively own the inner half of the plate, and I don't think he's comfortable enough doing that yet. In his last two outings he's hit 5 men. That's on top of the walks. If they look for reinforcements I think Lauer might be next man up. The counterpoint is that I was confident Uribe wasn't ready yet either, and he shut me up pretty effectively😛.
  21. 😲. Heck, he might find a roster spot someday just to be sent up to hit in the 8th or 9th inning of a tie game.😄
  22. Black was 4-30 in his last handful of games for Biloxi, so the dry spell goes back a ways. But he's still drawing his walks, and as you said appears to be re-emerging. I've wondered if moving him around the infield had an effect.
  23. Definitely looks like a 2B-OF type that needs to find the right niche. But he's so damn fun to pull for. If he ever develops enough arm strength that you can trust him at SS on a fill-in basis (questionable, I know) I'd bet on him finding a spot on a roster someday.
  24. Someone mentioned how Lazar is quietly having a solid year. I think Murray mirrors that among INFs as it's easy to overlook him with all the other SS & 2B types doing good things. Not as flashy & not as able to make the highlight-reel play as his teammate Zamora but IMO much more reliable. They both have a chance because bench guys who are INFs & can play SS are valuable.
  25. Nice article. But what it didn't touch on was the Brewers lack of success, luck, whatever you want to call it, vs some of the Dodgers' contact the last three days that went for hits, particularly during the first two games. In comparison yeah, they were very unlucky in this series w/regard to batted balls. Whether or not it made a difference in the results is anyones' guess. Is it a viable excuse for the entirety of the offensive struggles this year? Of course not.
