  1. That might make for an interesting thread title all by itself😄.
  2. I like Thomas. I just wish he was a rental because A) he'd be cheaper & B) with what we have in the organization OF-wise I don't know if it would make sense to have him for multiple years. We WILL have the opportunity to face-to-face with Mike Rizzo next week in DC. But I agree probably a little too rich.
  3. Fair enough. We agree regarding the current pen. But all the RPs mentioned earlier would be considered by many to be "deadline deals" due to the time in which they were acquired, just not necessarily on the final day (excepting Lyles who I think was picked up afterward in a waiver deal).
  4. Congrats on correcting your earlier post ("every time they've been awful"). Pomeranz certainly was effective. Jeremy Jeffress was far from awful in '17 also. And we all know about pickups in other years before (or after) the deadline that bolstered the BP. K Rod, Soria, X Cedeno. Even Jordan Lyles was a contributor out of the pen in (I think) 2018. I don't know what the AT THE DEADLINE specific accomplishes outside of shrinking the pool. But AT the deadline, in recent years, you aren't far off FWIW.
  5. Severino hits RH. Stick 'im between Al Oliver & Willie Stargell & you're good to go.
  6. I'm against them adding a BP arm this deadline. But aside from that, that's one laughably inaccurate statement.
  7. Forgot to add that. Like the K:BB ratio quite a bit.
  8. That's what I like about it. High floor; switch hitter. Severino certainly fits "lottery ticket" category, and trading a middle INF certainly is dealing from a crowded house. Personally I thought we'd have to go a tiny bit higher up the developmental ladder for Santana. I view it as moderate return at a minimum, maybe more, for an easy-to-swallow cost. Good job, FO.
  9. Agree 100% re 1B & DH being positions of greatest need. I'd just like to give a little shout out to Miller. He'll never be Todd Helton around the bag but it looks like he's put in the work & gotten better. Made the play on a very tough in-between throw yesterday.
  10. I'm assuming JL still lives in Madison. That's what, a 1-hour flight? And not required to be in Champbana on game days? Interesting stuff.
  11. I think it's more a case of acknowledging that there IS a future. I like passionate fans, I salute you for that. But I'll probably think of this thread every time I see one of those commercials about people who need to get out from under their $80,000 credit card debt (the money in this case being represented by talent stream).
  12. What if the potential talent turns out to be better than the proven talent?
  13. I'm not the type of fan that gets overly emotional when "my" team doesn't see things the way I want them to. I tend to be more open-minded than that. So I doubt I'll "get giddy". I'll analyze the acquisition, the cost, and make a determination as to how I feel about it. As far as the economics of the game...........compared to other teams, no, they don't have the revenue streams some other teams have. That's a fact. But it's not germaine to this particular debate. IMO doing the things you suggest would be irresponsible to their overall ability to contend regardless of $$$. Other than that, unless you're a member of their accounting dept you're making statements you couldn't possibly be able to back up. But I get the frustration.
  14. By your own definition, most of the lineup is pathetic. So apparently a middling bat or two would, indeed, be an improvement. I'd also suggest looking at the pitching staffs of the teams you just listed, one through thirteen, and compare them to Milwaukee's. I'm sorry, this is the way they do things, and I agree with it. What you suggest isn't going to happen, and IMO that's fortunate because they can't afford to be that near-sighted.
  15. I wouldn't bet the farm on it or anything, but I've felt for a while now that Woodruff re-upping isn't impossible. I'm all over the map re Burnes. Don't have a strong feeling how they'll go. Letting him walk for the picks isn't something I'd be adverse to.
  16. Actually, picking up a middling bat or two could make a huge difference in the fortunes of this team. The reason is that they're proficient at..........wait for it............run prevention.
  17. Maybe, but ya gotta MOVE THAT NEEDLE!!!!!!
  18. That tells you all you need to know about the value of media hype, especially in baseball.
  19. This is an internet fan board. What in the world is wrong with you?
  20. Seconds before the HR I said that I was surprised CC didn't go to Perkins.
  21. He may have never been better, when you factor in the 0 walks.
  22. If he comes to the plate with his head up his *** like he often does it won't make a difference either way, but putting Adames in front of someone who's swinging the bat well is actually a good idea. But I'd try using Yelich as that guy. !. Frelick 2. Adames 3. Yelich 4. Contreras
  23. Cam fan here. Don't know how close anyone came to taking a flyer on him, but I was relieved when he didn't get plucked in rule 5. He can defend at a high level, has versatility & can swing the bat, particularly vs LHP. That makes him a poster boy for this FO. That said I'm not that surprised they're leaning towards others who have a little more under their belts experience-wise. I think the day comes when we're happy he's here.
