  1. I'm on IE7, I've seen no hearts today, even when I've checked around the times Invader has seen them.
  2. Good old ESPN. In Buster Olney's latest column, about "breakout" players for 2011, he lists Adrian Gonzalez. Pretty sure a guy who is good enough to be signing a $154MM contract has already broken out. Oh wait, he was in San Diego and I'm sure Buster only watches games on ESPN, so he's probably never actually seen him play. In fairness, he did list Marcum as the most likely to break out, but still...
  3. FYI - OnMilwaukee.com is pitching a deal from the Sheraton Crescent. Details here.
  4. I'd like to think they added the 2nd "winner" (even though he doesn't get the big prize) because of this quote from the story in the JS this morning: "I used to do a lot of breakfast stuff - mostly stuff that has bacon in it, because bacon is just delicious."
  5. All is right in the world again. Thanks.
  6. Did something change in the formatting this morning? On all the pages (forum list, individual forums, individual topic) there is no longer a white-grey-white pattern, the background is completely white making all the posts kind of run together. I'm at work and stuck on IE7, so I can't speak to other browsers.
  7. I'm not sure how Rosiak will fit into some fans' desire (especially around here) for a beat writer that is in touch with "new" stats. One thing I know about Rosiak's MU coverage is that he doesn't hesitate to interact with bloggers and message boards. Perhaps Brian or one of the other mods here can reach out to him if this is confirmed. He posts frequent blog entries and lots of twitter posts and his writing seems to be about 100x better than Witrado.
  8. Just voted twice, currently in 2nd place. Let's bring this home.
  9. Given the make-up of this team, I don't think defensive position or ability is too important for the 25th guy. I'd rather have someone that is a "professional hitter" that can be used in key PH opportunities. The old-school comp is Lenny Harris.
  10. I'll go up there when I take clients to the game, but even then I try to get in pre-game and get to our seats in the first couple of innings. It's a terrible place to watch the game and the food isn't spectacular. It is a nice place for a pre-game drink.
  11. Vasgersian had some of my all-time favorites, which might be the only memorable things about some of those teams. I don't remember any of the details, other than these pop culture referenced home run calls: "Orange whip, orange whip, orange whip. Three orange whips!" "If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have some pudding if you don't eat your meat?!"
  12. Because two weeks ago I was in Vegas and put money on this at 60-1. DADDY NEEDS A NEW PAIR OF SHOES!
  13. Typical Hoffman fashion, not a lot of drama or hoopla, just class. Axford has some nice quotes about him in McCalvy's blog and his own twitter feed, which is worth following, even if you don't typically follow individual athletes. He's quickly rising to #1 on the list of "Brewers I'd like to have a beer with."
  14. Totally agree. There was an interesting Twitter discussion last night (I think Joe Posnanski started it) about Bagwell. The main question - list the best NL 1B of all time. Pujols is an easy #1. Then who? It's hard to not make a case for Bagwell. As far as PEDs - this is by no means proof, but he wasn't in the Mitchell Report, wasn't on the "list of 103", and didn't have any of the circumstantial evidence against him that others had. He's spoken recently about his insane weightlifting regimine, and how it shortened his career. In addition, he attributes his power increase to the first season he worked with Rudy Jarimillo, who taught him how to efficiently hit for power. Jarimillo has a track record of being a great hitting coach. Bagwell is the perfect of the writers making broad assumptions. This cheapens the HOF more than it would if they would just accept the fact that cheating hitters faced cheating pitchers for a long time (well before the 1990's and likely continuing in some fashion today) and we'll never know who was clean.
  15. Eric, I got the meat sweats just reading that.
  16. From Rotoworld, this will never get old: "With Greinke, Yovani Gallardo, Shaun Marcum and Randy Wolf headlining the Brewers' rotation, Milwaukee is now a legitimate World Series contender."
  17. I would. Also, it's Game 4, not 3. We play on March 31st then have an off day, then play 2 more. It'll go Greinke, Gallardo, Wolf on the road. That way we can show off one of our new acquisitions, which would be Marcum, in the home opener. How about Greinke on opening day and the on 3 days rest for the home opener?
  18. I like hotwire.com. Similar to Priceline, but you don't name the price. They show you the size of car, price, and location (in termnal, shuttle, etc.). The only thing you don't see is the rental company name. I feel like the chains are absolute commodities - there is no difference, so I don't care which one I rent from. I've saved quite a bit of money doing it this way.
  19. One of the first autographs I ever got in person. I had to be about 12 and had no real idea just how great of a pitcher he was. As others have said, he took time to talk to me about my own baseball career and seemed genuinely interested. As the media hype gets out of control over the Bryce Harpers of the world, it seems even more amazing that Feller was pitching in the big leagues at age 17. Talk about something we'll never see again!
  20. I agree Lawrie could become a great player. However I'm curious what makes you think he'll reach this level, since the OBP and SLG numbers you project are significantly higher than any of his minor league numbers.
  21. Just to add a little levity to this thread, there is this portrait (so to speak) of Lawrie.
  22. What's not to like? The fact that Marcum has been a legit #2 guy for all of one season, and doesn't throw hard enough to give himself any room for error.Unlike Lawrie, who has no question marks at all.
  23. I agree with this. However, they could always approach Marcum about an extension. Now would be the time - buy out the last two arby years and add a couple. Brewers get some cost control, Marcum would still be a FA in his early 30s, which would enable him to get an additional big contract from someone else for his mid-late 30s (assuming health).
  24. You don't have to throw mid-90s to have upside. Marcum misses bats by changing speeds. From Fangraphs:
  25. No kidding, however the reality is that McGehee isn't going to get Marcum or someone better. Starting pitching is at a premium, and MeGehee is closer to "just a guy" than "elite prospect".
