  1. I'm going to go with "yes" on that one. There is no possible way that managers didn't know what was going on in their locker rooms. Combine that with the fact that LaRussa has had more than his fair share of alleged users and his denial is even more disingenuous.
  2. LINK I'm not sure how to feel about this. It is nice that he came clean and admitted everything (though there is already an anonymous source claiming he used HGH, which he didn't admit), but this sure sounds like "I wanted to go away, but now I'd like a paycheck." I do not envy him for the treatment he's going to receive on the road this year, but I guess that has something to do with sleeping in the bed you make. I'm sure we'll hear all about how unclassy the rest of the league is for tauting this admitted cheater.
  3. I think their plan is to move Kung Fu Panda to 1B and play DeRosa primarily at third. That doesn't make this signing look any better.
  4. Lazy sports talk radio hosts. Drew Olson just said that Randy Wolf has never had a major injury. Cmon Drew, you have one job-know about sports. I'm willing to cut him a little slack on other sports, but the guy was an MLB beat writer for cryin' out loud!
  5. Awoke this morning, only to see green grass and puddles in downtown Milwaukee. A little disappointing after hearing all the dire projections (8-12 inches of snow, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria).
  6. I see only one reason to sign Gregg Zaun - www.greggzaun.com
  7. I'm warming to the potential this trade brings. However, how can people still think that Corey Hart will bring back pitching? Even Hart+, unless the + is Gamel, which I would describe as Gamel +.
  8. While its nice to have money to spend on pitching, there in nothing in DM's history that gives me any confidence about how he's going to spend it. I don't think this makes us players for Lackey (and I'm not sure I'd want us to be). Maybe it gives us some flexibility in picking up a contract in a trade, but who is out there, on the trade block, with a big contract? Derek Lowe? I really thought Hardy would fetch a minor league pitcher, maybe even one with some upside. Now it looks like we're going to have to get two pitchers in free agency, which means that one of the two will probably be a Mulder-type reclaimation project. Not the start to the off-season I wanted.
  9. I was at County the night Dwight Gooden threw his no hitter. The Brewers were in a rain delay, so we all "watched" the no hitter on the video board.
  10. I agree. My biggest fear is that our two new starters will be Washburn and Mulder.
  11. Completely agree. However, there have been some around here that like to throw out the fangraphs number as justification for the "value" re-signing a player. This has come up multiple times in the Cameron discussion, and I don't remember anyone citing the fangraphs value with the disclaimer above. I think that is what causes frustration for other posters.
  12. Deadspin is running some comments from various fan sites: "The Bitter Tears Of The Best Fans In Baseball" Definitely some NSFW and NSCF (not so classy fan) language.
  13. I've heard several reports (MLBTR, Stark) that point to Rich Harden getting nothing other than 1-2 year offers. He certainly has his flaws, but if when he's on, he's probably better than any other SP on the FA market. For 1/10 with Doug's new toy (the mutual option), I'd take that risk.
  14. The guy on the Colorado grounds crew that brings the RP's jacket from the bullpen to the dugout is built just like Coffey. When he followed Coffey out of the bullpen, he also sprinted.
  15. Thats prolly a good idea. Actually, thats definately a good idea.
  16. The Original Guitar Hero, dead at 94. (replaced link; the old one was going to a blurb on Afghanistan --1992)
  17. Every time we win, we peel a section... http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/dez3030/1373_5.jpg
  18. Really? Who is the MLB-ready lefty we have at AAA? The closest thing we have to French is Parra. I don't think we'd do Parra + for 2 months of Washburn. If you mean we could have matched that offer with position players, you're probably right. But again, we'd be overpaying with Escobar or Gamel.
  19. Rosenthal says the Brewers made an offer for Bannister and received this response: "We're not motivated to move him." Someone using DM's catchphrase against him? This is like the immovable object meeting the irresistable force.
  20. Especially since the MP sound guy is good at stopping it just in time to catch the entire crowd singing "toniiiiiiight"
  21. And a playoff banner, you can't ignore that fact when evaluating a trade.. The goal of adding a piece like CC or Halladay is to get to the playoffs, where anything can happen.
  22. One thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is Attanasio's involvement in some of these deals. Personally, I think Mark was driving the bus on the Suppan signing (hosting him for dinner, etc.). and the CC deal. I also think he's pushing for a Halladay deal more than Melvin. You can argue that Attanasio's influence on transactions has been both good (getting CC, firing Yost) and bad (Suppan). In any case, that's not going to change with a new GM. If anything, Attanasio will have more influence since he'll be hiring his own GM.
  23. According to JP Ricciardi, no offers have been made yet - the Blue Jays are still scouting.
  24. I fly Frontier a lot out of Milwaukee and always fly standby. In most cases, there is room for all the standby passengers, but I'll echo what several other posters have said - call ahead and see how much room there is. The Frontier reservation staff is always helpful. The first flight of the day is 6:00 AM or so, this one usually has the most available seats. An alternative if you want to guaranty a seat is to look at other airlines. If you're only going to Denver, I'd suggest looking at Southwest from Midway. You can take the airport shuttle / bus to Midway, so your car will be at MKE when you take your Frontier flight home. If you're going farther than Denver, this plan gets a little more complicated.
