  1. Wow, not appealing. Surprising since an appeal in MLB is almost an automatic reduction. That's almost, dare I say, classy.
  2. I'm sure he'll appeal, get it knocked down to 3 and wait until he's either banged up or they play the Astros to serve it.
  3. For me it's "Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog..."
  4. Drew Olson makes my head hurt. Today on the D-List, he was arguing that he knew McGehee and Yuni would turn it around because "they have a track record." I think he was saying that Yuni has a track record of being good. The worst part was that he said something along the lines of: "everything evens out. If you flip a coin ten times and you get a bunch of heads, you KNOW that the next ten times you're going to get a bunch of tails." I mean, come on, even if you try to argue that a hot hitter will stay hot and vice versa, you have to know that there is no such thing as a hot coin. I would like to play poker with Drew Olson, however.
  5. Given this week's events, I think this thread should soley consist of the picture of LaRussa's daughter holding a card showing our magic number. That shouldn't be too hard to photoshop.
  6. I'm guessing we've made a definite decision on this issue.
  7. Um. bean balls are part of the game, but bad ball/strike calls aren't? The strike zone was all over the place last night, Molina of all people should have known that.
  8. You can't throw at anybody today, that's an automatic suspension in a pennant race - exactly what LaRussa wants. RRR is smarter than Yost (admittedly a low standard). Now a hard slide? That's another story. It might be Rafael Furcal ligament day for those seated in the field level. Let's just get up big and pose after some home runs today.
  9. Typical LaRussa. I hope this gets some national play, especially his overreaction in the press conference. I can't believe he's still so highly-regarded. Let's take a look at his body of work. Here are some interesting facts about our friend TLR: --Loves to play mind games with opponents - complaining about lights, doctored balls, sign stealing; --Believes that bean-balls are part of the game. It is unclear if this applies to Cardinal hitters. --Has managed more admitted juicers than any other manager (Canseco, McRoid, Tejada, Giambi off the top of my head); --Doesn't exactly run a zero-tolerance clubhouse. Had one player leave the team because of substance abuse issues (Spiezo), another die by driving drunk (Hancock) and another die with drugs in his system (Kile); --Has a solid 2:1 WS title:DUI ratio Should LaRussa ever make it to the HoF, and I think he will, I propose his plaque have two pictures - Dave Duncan and a syringe.
  10. Dress pants are awful. Pus leaks through pants, dries into a scab, causing your pants to be sealed to your leg.
  11. Tony Plush with the Brewer argyle socks would be the best of all time.
  12. We're getting the band back together!
  13. While this is certainly a shame, I think its pretty ridiculous that people are comparing her to Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain and Joplin, just because they all OD'd at 27 (yes, I realize Cobain didn't OD). She had one top-ten hit, and it was essentially a novelty song. I doubt there were too many people that didn't know who any of the other members of "Club 27" were when they died, and that was before the internet. Five years from now, no one will remember Amy Winehouse.
  14. As far as I can remember, his were the last of the single-anchor newscasts.
  15. Boras didn't negoatiate the current contract, so he will not make anything on the vesting year. Boras won't make money until K-Rod signs his next contract. The way I see it, K-Rod won't finish enough game to vest the option. The Brewers will offer arby, since there is no way he'll accept a one-year deal to be a set-up guy at age 30. This is likely his last chance for a multi-year deal, someone will give it to him. Plus that makes Boras the most $$. Worst case, he accepts the arby offer and the Brewers deal him, just like the Braves did with Soriano a couple of years ago.
  16. Let's relax a little folks. I'm sure RRR has explicit instructions on how to use K-ROD. And we know DM and MA have that kind of input, as we saw with JJ Hardy. K-ROD will probably close some games if Ax is unavailable or if there is some great matchup, but I seriously doubt he gets close to the vesting number unless Ax gets hurt or goes Turnbow on us.
  17. Jason Kendall, so gritty that he has not one, but two tears in his rotator cuff.
  18. There is one from the eastside that stops right in front of Hooligans / Replay / BBC.
  19. Just returned from Belgium, where I had Blanche de Namur for the first time. Granted, I'm a big wheat fan, but this is the best beer I've ever tasted.
  20. If we were talking about a premium position like SS and a player like Tulo I'd feel differently. But 1B is the easiest position to fill. With Gamel, you get maybe 75% of the production (give or take) at 2% of the cost. Even if, down the road, you have to sign a FA 1B, there are always Lyle Overbays and Derek Lees available. I love Prince, and I hope he goes to the AL so I can still cheer for him. But Mark A is an investment professional, and 7/150 just isn't a good investment for a team with a limited (though large) budget to spend at 1B.
  21. When I was there a few years ago, we just walked around and stumbled on some cool places. I don't remember names, but SF is a great walking city and there were a lot of places to choose from. I'm sure LouisEly or SeriesFinale could give you some detail, they seem to have all the Cali knowledge.
  22. I thought of this thread when reading that 75% of Joplin was leveled by tornadoes over the weekend. Are you still in WI?
  23. I'm looking for two cheapies. Two people joining our group, just need to get them in the building.
