  1. This was my beer of choice at Beloit College back when you could still get a case of returnable bottles for just over $10, and I drank a lot of it at Brewers' games as well. And well, everywhere. Heck, I even had a keg of it at my wedding reception for old time's sake. Ever since they dressed the packaging up and raised the price (not to mention selling the brewery to a Canadian guy!), it just doesn't taste as good to me, imagine that! Apparently this applies to all Midwest Conference campuses. At Ripon, the $9.99 returnable case of Huber Bock or Rhinelander (my personal favorite) was all the rage.
  2. We do UV & Robinade, which makes the bar look like an '82 tribute.
  3. I'm pretty sure that's O'Shea's.
  4. I found lower minimum tables on this trip than I have in a while. Most every casino except the Wynn/Venitian/Ballagio had $5 blackjack. I played at Mirage for a long time, and the cocktail waitresses were bringing the drinks faster than I could drink them. Somehow I survived.
  5. I just got back this week. It was pretty dead in Vegas, you can tell the economy is impacting their tourism business. Every casino I went into had replaced many of their table-gaming areas with slots. We stayed at the Palazzo, their sports book is insane. All of the sports books are pretty quiet right now, other than some action during NBA playoff games.
  6. Dentice's has been closed for two Opening Days (isn't that how you measure sausage time?). The sign is still up, but it's never open. They had a sign taped to the window that said "Closed Temporarily" for a while, but that's gone too. The Italian restaurant across the street (Joey's) is closed too. Combine that with Giovanni's leaving and there's not nearly as much good Italian in the city as their used to be. A buddy of mine used to work with one of the Dentice family members, she said none of the children or grandchildren wanted to take over the business when the old guys retired. That's a shame. I would have run that business, but I guess the family recipe isn't getting out of the family.
  7. I love the House of Homemade Sausage in Germantown. I've tried many different places since my old go-to (Dentice's) closed. HHS are the best brats I've found. For Italians, Glorioso's are usually pretty good, though its hit and miss. Next I'm trying Pecorano's on Brady. Frank Pecorano is the "Pepperoni, Cannoli" guy many of you have no doubt seen around bar time in Milwaukee.
  8. I had just the opposite experience at Busch. Two years ago, we saw beer bottles being thrown at Brewer fans holding up a sign. The security personnel saw it as well, but instead of dealing with the bottle-throwers, they told the Brewer fans to calm down or get ejected. I've been there several times and found the idea of "highly-informed" Cardinal fans greatly overstated. The ones that come to Miller Park are generally nice, but in StL it's a different story. The fact that they're upset about the untuckem thing is kind of funny, since there is a way to prevent that - win. Also because Pujols is one of the cockiest players in the league. Edit (with a thought related to the thread) - there are riverboats there as well if you want to gamble. I think they recently built a casino downtown as well.
  9. +1 for Cory, he's handling this correctly. I assume Uecker will too for the last couple of innings.
  10. Not even a bag of balls? Dan Lunetta, the Tigers' director of minor league operations, said the Brewers assigned Tyner's contract to the Detroit organization. It didn't appear that any cash or other players were involved in the transaction. LINK
  11. If you like Italian, head to the Hill. Its a cab ride from downtown, but the food is outstanding and there are a lot of little neighborhood bars. We ate at Charlie Gitto's and it was maybe the best Italian I've ever had at a restaurant.
  12. No more "Dream Police" makes me sad. Hearing that rattle around a quiet, half-full stadium was awesome.
  13. That sucks. Keep an eye on craigslist, you might be able to replace your grill fairly cheaply. There is a full-size weber on there for $25 (Oconomowoc) right now. I got a similar one for $10 a few years ago.
  14. That article shows how far the rookie contracts have come. McDonanld's request for $1.1MM over 3 years was outrageous, now Boras is looking for $50MM for Strasburg.
  15. I went to Gritz with a group of friends and our dates before a high school dance. Needless to say, neither the waiter nor our dates were impressed by our ability to recite the lines and recreate the scene from the movie.
  16. I somewhat enjoy this movie.
  17. Someone told me this in the Fall of 07 and I laughed it off. Is there any truth to this rumor? There's no proof, but I've heard from people in Madison that generally know things that go on inside the University and they've somewhat confirmed it. Not that that makes it true.
  18. Maybe her "history" with Bielema has something to do with this...
  19. FTJ is right - mold can be a huge deal, and not just in the brain-melting way. If you buy a house knowing it has or had mold, you'll have to disclose that when you sell the house. Sure, you can just tear out drywall, but to really get rid of the mold, you'll need to find a mold remediation contractor, and they're not cheap. When you get an inspection (which is a MUST, mold or no mold), find someone who does mold testing. They'll be able to identify the mold, find the source and maybe even help estimate the cost to cure. In this market, where buyers have all the power, I'd stay away from anything with mold. There are tons of houses for sale right now.
  20. I'd love a shot at the tickets. And I'll donate to SF, win or lose.
  21. I like that the conspiracy theorists are already saying this is a suspension, eerily similar to Clemens sitting out April and May in 2006 and 2007.
  22. I listened to an inning or so on Saturday and my only complaint was that he sounded a little too game-show-hostish. Almost cheesy. But I thought his descriptions were good and generally enjoyed his game-calling. I'm sure I'll get used to his inflection.
