  1. Sure, that helps the PITCHING(which was fine already btw), but Woody doesn't help the lineup. I said, Santana is better than what they had, sure, but that isn't saying much. I guess everyone's definition of "hugely impactful or "needle moving" is different. I guess I'm not surprised that some here consider this move "hugely impactful".(simply because it was better then what they had) 😐 As I said, I'd bet anything, their will be many bigger bats then him acquired by the deadline. This will likely be all the Brewers do as well, except maybe add a reliever(which every time they have at the deadline, they have been awful). Look at it like this, All Santana really does is put a band aid on a gaping wound.
  2. Thank you, this is exactly my thought. I mean I knew I'd come here seeing people excited about this move, but it's not much more than a "meh" move. Is it better than what they had, sure(that's not saying much) Is it hugely impactful? Not even close. I'd bet anything there will be better hitters(by a substantial margin) acquired at the deadline by clubs(not the brewers obviously).
  3. Wow! They can Predict the future?? That's a pretty special talent to be honest.
  4. This is EXACTLY the type of big move I'm lobbying for. the brewers have the prospects to get it done, but they aren't bold enough to even attempt something like this because of "Muh prospects". The thing is Ohtani fills two spots..another starting pitcher, AND the best hitter in baseball. Even if it didn't get them a world series, I bet it would sell out the stadium almost every night the rest of the season, merchandise sales would soar, it would be a financial boon for Mark A. That's the kind of "out of the box" thinking I'd like to see from them. Sadly, I still think there would be some people here that wouldn't make this deal, because of the precious "prospects" the Crew would have to give up.
  5. It may not work, but at least it would show they were actually trying. And without at least another LEGIT bat or two in the lineup the odds of "getting hot" are slim. That's the point.
  6. I'm not emotional. I'm just tired of watching this lineup flounder night in and night out. Aren't you? I mean seriously, it's brutal to watch. Makes my eyes bleed. I just don't want them to add a mediocre bat or two and then when it inevitably doesn't work, they say at the end of the year "well we tried". No you didn't. You half assed it, and HOPED it MIGHT make a slight difference. That MIGHT be good enough to push you over for a division title, but it's almost certainly not going to be good enough to get you to the WS, let alone win it. The worst thing about it is, they do it to themselves. They put themselves in this position every single off season by signing washed up vets that have nothing left, thinking they can strike gold with them for a year. Who would have ever thought that was never going to work? Obviously not the Brewers. 😔 Because they keep doing it every single year.
  7. We can play this game all day long. I will win every single time, so let's do it. First of all, do DH's play defense? I mean there is a spot in the batting order now that allows a "bat" to be in the LU and not effect your defense, ordid they change the rules today? More chances of a bad pitch that results in a hit (or HR), resulting in more runs given up...a big bat, means one swing, can alleviate this. Starters getting tired earlier in the game, resulting in more chances of a bad pitch being thrown, resulting in more chances of hits (or HRs) given up, resulting in more runs given up. Yes, giving up more runs now is almost a death sentence for this team, but another legit bat or two added to the lineup can alleviate this too. Give up 5? No problem, we'll score 6 or 7 or more. or another way to look at it is...more Bats added to the LU can make this a moot point by scoring a lot of runs early enough that the Pitchers don't have to throw as many pitches(they can get pulled early). Point being, I can counter every one of these by adding more quality(big) bats. Score more runs, less stress/pitches etc on the staff. It's really that simple.
  8. How many do the Brewers have using their method?
  9. Well you go ahead and get giddy when they acquire a middling bat, and it does essentially nothing to change the LU(still not able to score runs in key spots etc). I'm so tired of hearing "The Brewers can't afford this or that". It's a total cop out and it's obvious those lies have infiltrated a majority of the fanbase who buy into it. The Brewers CAN do whatever they want to do. Period. That is 100% factual. It's what they CHOOSE to do is the difference. there is a BIG distinction there. they are NOT the same thing.
  10. Look, I don't want them to trade Chourio either. That being said, IF they have a chance to acquire an All star bat and the other team asked for him in return, I'm doing it every single time. I will gladly admit I'm wrong if he turns out to be a trout etc. But that's down the road, you know where I live? In the here and now. The future is the future, it will be what it will be. However you can control the here and now.
  11. Not if they stay "middling". How many guys in this current lineup do you feel confident in right now that will get a big hit, in a big situation? Or maybe better stated, who do you even want up in those situations. Yelich and maybe Contreras. That's pathetic. look at the Braves lineup, or the Reds lineup(against everyone but the Brewers staff), look at the Dodgers lineup, The orioles, the Rays, the list goes on and on. There will also be games that the staff just doesn't have it on a certain night. then what? Not having it for them is giving up 4-5 runs, I have zero confidence that this team can score 5-6 on nights like those to win games.
  12. Exactly! Give me proven talent, over "potential" talent every single time.
  13. So he's guaranteed to be a multi year All star and potential MLB MVP?
  14. So what? You still should put yourself in the best possible position you can as a Franchise to get to the World series, right? To not do so, is neglect. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but at least you can then say you did everything you could. It's hard to fault anyone for that, I sure wouldn't. But to keep going with this faulty premise of "run prevention" being the ticket, is a fallacy. So what if your staff gives up 2 runs, if you only score 1 you still lose. Now if you have a staff that only gives up 2-3 runs per game, but your LU is scoring 5-6+, doesn't that seem like a winning formula? The way they do things as far as relying on "run prevention" and always signing/trading for mediocre at best bats isn't going to be a winning formula in most years. It's just not. It is so painful watching this offense night in and night out. Is it fun for any of you watching Freddy strike out 13 guys, and being on pins and needles hoping he doesn't make a mistake and give up a solo shot that could end up being the game? Or watching this team go 2-16 with runners in scoring position? How much pressure do you think that puts on the staff every damn game when they know if they give up even two runs, there's a very real chance they lose the game.
  15. Then go get multiple bats. They don't all have to be "big time" bats. Say you get one "big time" bat and THEN add a couple other mid level bats, that could be enough. But just adding say 3 "middling" bats thinking it will be the difference, isn't likely to work.
  16. Define "overpay", Just because this board is notoriously in love with "prospects", doesn't mean the deal(whatever prospects it included) would be an over pay. Tell me how you know for certain guys like Churio, Misorowski, etc will be bonafide studs in the majors. If you can tell me that factually, I will revise my statement. The problem is you can't, and you know that. So if you know going in that you aren't positive Churio will be the next Ken Griffey jr, or Misorowski will be the next Nolan Ryan, then how would including them be an "overpay"? It would only be an overpay" to those here that drool over prospects. They drool over them, and are the same ones that loved Turang and Weimer(both perfect examples of what "prospects" are likely to become). So say you get Arenado/Goldy for example, and it cost you Mis and Churio, BUT the Brewers won the WS, would that still be an over pay? Especially considering you can get the same level prospects or better when you deal Woody/Burnes, right?
  17. Read what i said please...EVERYONE is on the market if you offer enough. Everyone has a price. If they technically aren't "on the market" force them to be "on the market" with an offer they can't refuse.
  18. We'll see, he can go out and get a guy like Tim Anderson, CJ cron etc and you all will drool over what a "great move" it was and technically can then say "see, he added a bat(s)!" Great job Arnold! Go get some guys that are struggling and think you can suddenly turn them around, like you do with all your FA signings every year. How's that working out for them? Adding a middling bat(s), isn't going to do much, and I think you all are smart enough to know that.
  19. I'll give up anyone, absolutely anyone in the system. Churio, Misorowski, etc I will also trade any of Perkins, Hiura, Monasterio. etc(as fillers) No prospect is untouchable. My first targets would be Arenado and Goldy. I'd also target Juan Soto, Luis Robert, Jose Ramirez, There's tons of guys, and yes almost every single one of them is acquirable if you pay the right price. Think about this logically, so you deal some prospectst his year(who more likely than not will not meet their potential anyway), you will recoup that and then some when you deal Woody and Burnes, so what are you really losing?
  20. It was absolutely NOT taken out of context, he told "Mccalvy he was hesitant to add "a bat" because in his words "a lot of times those guys don'tmake your team better". So great job Arnold, I mean why even try then, right? What's the worst that happens, the offense gets...worse?? That's being hesitant to add a "bat". I have no doubt he'd add a bat like CJ Cron etc, but big deal, how much does that improve the offense? Answer: VERY marginally, maybe.
  21. If you have to ask what kind of "big time" move they should make, then you're a small time thinker. Bats are ALWAYS available for the right price. So go get an All star bat and give up some of those "precious" prospects(who most likely won't work out anyway) and go for it. This is likely the last year of Burnes/Woodruff, but just keep making "minor" non needle moving trades and HOPE the pitching staff only gives up 1 run every game and you some how, some way score 2.
  22. This is ridiculous if that is how they are approaching things. They care way to damn much about "run -revention" and not enough about scoring runs. Who cares if a "bat" can play defense? 1. There's a DH now, 2. You need to be able to score some damn runs. I said it yesterday and i will say it again. If they don't add a "needle moving" bat, that is a slap in the face to all Brewer fans. Period. Go big or go home. None of these 'middling" bat types, what good will that do? Nothing! if that's all they will do, then stand pat and watch the team tank the rest of the year. I'll be LIVID if they go through ANOTHER trade deadline and only do upgrades "around the margins". Such small time thinking. https://fansided.com/2023/07/26/mlb-trade-deadline-white-sox-brewers-cardinals-giants/ Milwaukee Brewers The Brewers have been active in making phone calls looking for an infielder or outfielder to improve the lineup, but the key word out of Milwaukee continues to be that they will only do so “responsibly.” Brewers general manager Matt Arnold told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that he is hesitant to add a bat that will impact the team’s strengths: pitching and defense. “Look, I think we want to try to help this team … anytime you want to add a quote-unquote bat, sometimes those guys aren’t very good defenders,” Arnold said. “The reality is sometimes those guys might not make your team better.” The Brewers will be buyers. They will not trade Corbin Burnes or any of their other top players. But veteran catcher Victor Caratini has emerged as a trade option, according to sources.
  23. It has nothing to do with an analytics breakdown, it's all about their total unwillingness to spend $$ on LEGIT bats in FA. When you won't spend the $$ required, this is what you get. The Brewers are one of those organizations that seem to think they are the "smartest" guy in the room. They sign retreads thinking they have the "magic formula" to turn them around...except they are retreads for a reason. It's the old adge that you get what you pay for. They shop at Walmart's clearance rack every off season, they have only themselves to blame.
  24. Now THIS is the kind of thinking I like, and I wish the Front office would think big like this. Do something bold for once. Cripes, this is quite possibly the last season you'll have Burnes and Woody, just f'n go for it for once! It reminds me a lot of the Packers never truly "going for it" with Arodg, even though they claimed they were in 2021 because they re signed a bunch of their own guys. That's not "going for it".
  25. Imagine thinking plugging bats like CJ Cron etc into this lineup would move the needle. If that's all you're going to do, don't bother. That's actually insulting to Brewer fans. Go big, or stand pat and punt on the rest of the season.
