  1. The strength of the system is never going to be in the wins & losses, its going to be in the number of high-ceiling prospects in the system. The teams are underperforming for a number of reasons. 1. Poor performances by the healthy prospects. I'm not going to go into any detail here, suffice it to say our top guys have not necessarily adjusted well to the leagues they are in yet this season. 2. Injuries. We are currently missing several prospects due to injury (Hardy, Krynzel, Jones, Ford, etc.), although some have just come back off the DL. 3. The biggest reason in my mind is that the Brewer brain trust has chosen not to sign many (if any) career minor leaguers to levels below AAA. I'm sure this has to do both with philosophy and numbers of prospects. In any case, successful teams in the minors usually have a fair amount of guys who are not prospects, who are old for their league, and just hanging on. These guys produce at whatever levels they are at and help their teams win, they just have no future in the majors. Anyway, I think it's a little too early to say much about the state of the farm system. However, if injuries continue to erode the depth and/or some of our high level prospects that are healthy don't improve their production in the 2nd half of their seasons then it's certainly fair to ask the question.
  2. I agree that Wes has been pretty darn bad on several occasions, and I wonder if having all these Mondays off factors into the decision to leave Hendrickson at AAA at all since those off days make us less reliant on a #5 starter than if our off days were scattered throughout the week. We should soon find out if that had anything to do with it, because, starting today, the Brewers play 26 games in 27 days up to the All-Star break, then come back after the break with 18 games in 18 days. They will need consistency from that 5th spot if they are going to do well in this stretch. My guess is that Oby & Santos will be given relatively short leashes, with Wise being the next option. After that Hendrickson has to be the next guy to get an opportunity, particularly if he keeps throwing as well as he has so far this season. Also, I don't care if he doesn't throw 95 mph. If his command is good and he changes speeds well, he'll get guys out.
  3. Deering would break it open with three in the fifth when Rogers, who strained his back in the fourth, was lifted. Why am I not surprised? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  4. I see Texeira is from Kamehameha HS. After seeing the Brady Bunch episode where Greg got cursed by King Kamehmeha and almost died while surfing, I want nothing to do with this guy. A major arm injury waiting to happen.
  5. Not sure if Rogers' signing is imminent, but it has been delayed until at least Tuesday. Here is the link: news.mainetoday.com/apwir...-162.shtml
  6. Man, I hope Sheets missed a sign on that one. I can't think of any reason to have him swing away with guys on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. Anybody using MLB Gameday today? Jeff Weaver looks like a tweaked out meth addict. Yeah, I was looking at that earlier and had the same thought.
  7. Anybody notice that Weaver is positively Helms-like in his home/road splits this season. Here's hoping he continues his struggles on the road.
  8. Anybody know how long the delay is supposed to be? When are they checking back with Jim & Bob?
  9. Huntsville audio link not working, Eyecentric has the game starting at 8:00 pm EST, not sure if that has something to do with it or not. Anyone else having trouble?? The Birmingham website also list the game as starting at 8:00 EST; both the Huntsville site and Sportsnetwork.com list the game at 11:00 CST. Anybody have any idea which is correct. At this point I'm inclined to believe the evening time.
  10. so can we pencil deeswan and mikerollins into the anti-ginter crowd? Au contrere, mon ami. I like Ginter as much as the next guy. I think he is clearly one of the best 8 position players on this team and should be starting. However, it is more than a little disconcerting when a guy gets a chance to start and goes into the tank. I still like him, I still want to see him play; but that doesn't change the fact that he has been a pretty lousy player so far this month.
  11. I would guess the big pro-Ginter crowd would be frustrated, seeing as how he has been Helms-like since getting the starting 2nd base job. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. No about getting the pre-game notes back on the Indy web site... Hey Mass, I'm not sure when they post them, but I did find yesterday's game notes on the website shortly after the game started.
  13. Anyone listen to the Indy pregame? Any word on JJ's shoulder? Edit: They just reported that he went to Milwaukee to get it looked at, they may have a report later this evening. The Indy audio is working very well tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  14. I contacted WXNT radio station management Sunday morning regarding the problems with the Indians' feed. Hopefully we'll get an update by mid-week. I did email them last week, I've heard nothing back yet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  15. I don't think so, it didn't sound to me like his fastball got past the low to mid 80s. I think it's a situation where they had nobody else in the pen (Novinsky & Rivard both unavailable due to injury) and had to go with somebody. Since Raburn pitched 1 other time this year, he got the call. Sounds to me like it's emergency only, it just happened that tonight's emergency was with the game on the line.
  16. Prince with a 2-out, bases loaded, 2-run single after Gwynn K'd with 1 out. His Royal Highness breaks an 0 for 9 mini-slump and the legend of the soon-to-be-20 year old grows. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif However, with the Huntsville bullpen in about the same shape as Milwaukee's, super-utility player Johnny Raburn will try to close it out in his second inning of relief work. And Raburn does it despite giving up hits to the first 2 men in the inning. Stars win 4-2. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  17. Helms had a bloop single AND a REAl single in ONE game! He's golden! Seriously, someone tell me the last time he had a multi-ghit game. May 4, 2004. Regarding Davis, I know he's not as good as this guy at his best, but he reminds me a little of Mike Caldwell. Puts guys on , ton of ground balls, working out of trouble. He does have a cleaner hat, though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Stars give up a run on a bad throw by Cruz. E-6, game tied at 2 in the 9th.
  19. Is it time to point out that Grieve now has a higher BA, OBP, and SLG than Brady Clark? By 100 or so points. The gap is even larger if you take out Brady's 1 huge game against St. Louis the first week of the season.
  20. I have to think Melvin might be making some changes when Kolb and Capuano get healthy. But then again, do you really have pitching depth if most of that depth is no good?
  21. Middle of the 7th, Beloit leading 7-5.
  22. This Indy audio is total c**p. They really need to get this fixed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  23. I know it's early, and a small sample, but should we be concerned with Weeks? .276 isn't a horrible average this early in the season, but the power number definitely worry me, especially when he is hitting behind or in front of Fielder. I guess I wouldn't be worried at this point. He is getting on base pretty well and he is in his first full season of minor league ball. I'm sure Southern League pitching is a big step up from what he faced at Southern U. In any case, it's still very early in Rickie's career to be getting concerned with his power numbers.
  24. In case you aren't listening, the Stars are up 2-1 after His Royal Highness hit HR #9 in the bottom of the first. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif Okay, the Stars must be aligned just the right way (pun intended) today because Cruz and Saenz just went back-to-back with HRs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif Prince is reaching Bonds-like stature, he was just intentionally walked to load the bases for Nelson with nobody out. Nelson makes them pay with a 2-run double, 6-1 Stars, men on 2nd & 3rd, still nobody out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif Barnwell with a 2-run triple (the CF misplayed it and let it get over his head), 8-1 Stars.
  25. Through the top of the 5th. Housman gave up back-to-back doubles to allow a run, then buckled down and got out of it. 1-1 right now, Housman 7 Ks in 5 innings.
