Like the Brent Suter article, this article feels absolutely unnecessary. Giving a 30 year old Houser a 5 year extension when he's only had 1 season in his career with a FIP below 4 might be one of the worst decisions a FO could do especially one with a limited budget like we have.
Mikolas and Wainwright are 34 and 41 respectively. It's probably more likely than not that both of them are worse than they were last year just because of their ages.
Here are the xERA for the Cardinals current starters vs ours.
Brewers
Burnes - 3.75
Peralta - 3.59
Miley - 4.00
Lauer - 5.82
Rea - 3.62
Houser - 2.44
Cardinals
Montgomery - 3.52
Mikolas - 6.05
Flaherty - 5.38
Matz - 4.74
Wainwright - 3.78
Woodford - 7.09
Brewers SP hasn't even been that great this year but our starters look like world beaters compared to that Cardinals rotation.
2.8 fWAR for guys going 200 and 190 innings really isn’t anything impressive. That’s solid starter level and certainly nothing front of the rotation worthy.
They also both overperformed their xERA by about .6 runs and the Cardinals defense this year is not as good as last year to bail out their pitching.
This has just become my thing to complain about, but they really need to stop lighting the fireworks when the roof is closed because it makes the viewing product on TV absolutely awful because of the haze.

Hope we get a big win today. Dodgers got into Milwaukee early this morning so they might be a bit groggy/tired today and Gonsolin is making his 3rd start of the year.
And even if he does regain his early 2022 form (don’t think he ever touches 2021 form again) I still don’t think we could get a Holliday, Mayo, Povich package from the Orioles.
I don’t think Brewers fans would want to give up Chourio, Black, and Gasser for 1.5 years of a Corbin Burnes level pitcher.
There's zero chance the Orioles are trading Jackson Holliday for 1.5 years of Corbin Burnes (especially with him looking the way he has over his last 120+ innings)
I think it's pretty fair game to make fun of an org for giving a near 31 year old catcher a 5/$87.5M contract and now moving him off the catcher position just 6 weeks into the season.
