    Brewers have been more than willing to lean on more unproven guys for their depth. I think Rea being traded fits that past pattern. Could certainly be wrong about it.

    Torres has earned himself a multiyear deal with his play the last month and a half that I want no part of. He's the up the middle Willy Adames bat replacement guy, and you live with his defense for a year on a pillow contract, which is no longer on the table barring his FA market failing to materialize. A 3.5 WAR player avaliable on a 1 year deal would be ideal to the Brewers even if he doesn't have the power to replace Adames. I proposed several 3B via trade before. I still think that's a good possibility for putting together the 2025 IF. My whole point was addressing Scooter's saltiness that not everyone is on board with giving Moncada and Polanco $10 M a piece. As for the rest, I don't think DeJong signs to be a backup after the season he had, and I don't think Urshela has the versatility you would want from the bench.

    Not saying you can't bring in more rotation depth after trading Rea either. He's out of options, and by year's end this year he was moved to the bullpen. There's not a clear spot for him currently, especially if Ashby and Hall are still in their rotation plans like they've indicated and the forthcoming 40 man crunch. If he still had options, I don't think he would get traded. They did the same thing with Houser last offseason, and he had a much better track record than Rea.

    Even if it's just a couple of lottery tickets, you still get something for him and save the buyout on the option. There's a big 40 man roster crunch coming this offseason. The rotation looks like Peralta, Myers, Civale, Woodruff, and Rea/Ashby/Hall. Henderson, Crow, and Patrick are all Rule V eligible, and Misiorowski and Rodriguez will be in AAA.

    As the person who put Moncada and Polanco in your head as options, there are better options all around. Gleyber Torres and Ha-Seong Kim were names on the FA market more desirable. Torres' play the final weeks of the season and throughout the playoffs likely mean he's no longer available on a pillow deal. Some people think with the shoulder injury keeping Kim out until mid April means he's in line for a pillow deal this offseason. If that's the case, he's a perfect fit for the Brewers. A plus defender at SS, 2B, and 3B with a 106 wRC+ over the last 3 seasons.

    Angels are raising payroll this offseason, so I doubt they trade Rengifo.

    When proposing trades it has to make sense for the other team as well. Can't just throw a pile of scraps and expect that's a trade the other side will accept. Rockies are going to want prospects.

    Would you have traded Chourio for 1 year of Williams, Nick Mears, and Chad Patrick? If not, why would you expect a team to trade their consensus top 10 prospect for that?

    If Milwaukee wanted Leiter and Foscue, they'd nab them in a Williams trade instead of taking on $98 M in salary for a 34 year old. In the Williams trade scenario, Texas gets something that makes sense for them.

    He's definitely an OF in the bigs. Red Sox fans were arguing with me about him in Corbin Burnes trades that he was a plus defensive SS. If he was tgat, he would have played much more SS in the minors than he did. I still think there's good upside there because of his power that I would be down acquiring him and his 8 years of control remaining.

    I had Williams to the Red Sox for Meidroth, Fitts, Romero, and Rodriguez-Cruz using the Tanner Scott trade. (Obviously not getting a Snelling type prospect back in the offseason) I'd be down subbing Paez in for Fitts or Romero.

    Red Sox aren't trading Raffaela after giving him an extension.

    Even if they wanted to sell high on him, they could get way more back. Mayer is a consensus top 10 prospect in baseball. Boston isn't trading him for 1 year of a RP.

    You are interpretting this incorrectly. The package for Williams is SS/3B/2B Meidroth, RHP Fitts, SS Romero, and RHP Rodriguez-Cruz. Meidroth hit .293/.437/.400/.837 132 wRC+ 105 BB:71 K in AAA. He'd be acquired because he could be your OD 3B/2B. Madhawk was wondering whether a guy like Meidroth, who has a similar profile to or own Boeve, would make sense with Boeve already in AA. If Boeve stormed his way onto the roster, at the very least Meidroth would be an upgrade over Monasterio's spot. The very least plan isn't why we'd target him.

    The Boston proposal is definitely a more quantity oriented trade. I like Elmer Roriguez-Cruz better than some of the other rankings do (Logenhagen has him 7th in Boston's system ahead of Meidroth), and think he'd do well in the pitching lab. I also think the Brewers trade Rea because he's out of options with no clear spot in the rotation and the number of arms they have. A guy like Fitts makes it even more likely. Meidroth at the very least can be an upgrade over Monasterio if Boeve forces his way onto the roster.

    Only 1 more playoff appearance in 2014 with the current playoff rules assuming same records. Brewers would have made it in 2017 with the current format in addition to the other 4 times Stearns made it.

    I think the Brewers are going to want more than 2 years of control out of a centerpiece, so I don't think the Williams for Lux or Williams for Bohm deals work. I definitely think the Brewers loook for major league ready pieces in a Williams trade. Williams for a Ramon Urias and prospects package makes sense (Urias wouldn't be the centerpiece just the big league ready one), or Williams to Boston for something like Chase Meidroth, Richard Fitts, Mikey Romero, and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz.

If we want to dig in under the hood on the offensive side, he's coming off his 2 best seasons of his career.
