I'll always contend that Keston is a victim of the launch-angle craze. In college and coming up, he was a line drive machine. Screaming missiles, gap to gap. A doubles hitter, not a home run hitter. Changing his swing to try to increase his launch angle is to blame for his struggles more than anything.

Except "Moneyball" and analytics isn't just about using advanced stats, it's using it to your advantage. The A's use it to identify cracks and gaps that other teams aren't taking advantage of. To find players that outperform their salaries. It appears they might be looking at speed as one of those cracks. -

Career minor league slash lines for the two players involved: .285 / .363 / .457 .281 / .346 / .414 -
He IS the third rookie that would be in the lineup. Regardless of where Frelick plays, there are already two rookies that would be in the starting lineup. So he would be the third, regardless of talent level. Two guys punch you in the face. Then Mike Tyson punches you in the face. Was that punch from Tyson the #1 punch? It was probably the best punch of the lot, but it was the THIRD punch. Do you understand how counting works?
-
I love how this has turned into how I hate Frelick. I just don't see a team that considers themselves a contender, probably in the last year of their contending window, installing a THIRD rookie into the starting lineup, especially one that has no MLB experience and less than a season above A ball. It's that simple. If we're going that route, trade Burnes, trade Woodruff, trade Adames for as many prospects that are near major league ready as we can, for the next contending window to open in 2024 or 2025.
-
Except for the giant fact that YOU did that. And I quote "FWIW, he'll have to be on the opening day roster if they want the possibility of gaining that extra draft pick from the ROY vote. " That's YOU on Frelick. Of course, now you'll come back with some BS about how that's not what you meant. Dancing better than the love child of Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson.

Article: Do the Brewers Need to Trade Christian Yelich?
Lajitas replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
If the team was still looking at trading Burnes and Adames, it makes sense to play Frelick. But a team looking at contending isn't going to give regular playing time to a rookie with zero Major League experience (not even September call-up experience) and less than 100 games above A ball, especially one that is barely in the top 50 prospect list. I'm done with this. And I fully expect all you to be whining come April when Frelick is back in AAA.- 96 replies

You didn't present any evidence. You presented your opinion. You know what you get when you rush a young talented player? You get Keston Hiura.- 96 replies

He also hit about 50 points higher all the way across his typical slash line in those few AAA games. They'll wait to see if it continues. Again, if they didn't have other options, I would agree. But they'll cycle through those first, and bring him up only if all the others fail.- 96 replies

Frelick has played a third of a season at AA and a third of a season at AAA. Before May of last season, he hadn't been above A ball. If there was nobody else and he has an incredible spring, maybe. But they'll go through all their other options before calling him up.- 96 replies

Lajitas replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
People need to check themselves with thinking Frelick and/or Wiemer are going to be starting this season. Frelick has played 46 games at AAA and Wiemer has played 43. It's FAR more likely our OF is going to be Yelich, Mitchell and some combination of Taylor/Ruiz/Perkins/some inexpensive veteran.- 96 replies

Article: Where Does the Roster Stand Post Renfroe Trade?
Lajitas replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
First, Abreu is projected to get around $20 M a year, not $15 M. Second, spending the $10 M saved from trading Renfroe is better spent on upgrading the bullpen. Money spent on one position is money that is not available to spend on others. Abreu/Turang and the current bullpen is NOT an upgrade over Tellez/Wong and two or three more bullpen arms. -

We have less than 1% chance of signing Abreu. People need to get over that idea. Jesus, talk about self-fulfilling. "It's going to be a disappointing off-season if we don't do something that there is no chance of happening." -

Yes, attendance was down compared to pre-pandemic levels. But the average ticket price was also up. Average ticket price times attendance for 2022 was only about $8 M less than 2019. And that is countered by the revenue from the national TV deal being up about $8 M per team. Plus, that $24 M salary number for a Woodruff extension wouldn't be for this season. It would be for the 2025 season. Even with signing an extension that buys out some of Woodruff's free agent years, he's still going to get around the $11 M he's projected to get this year. Luis Castillo's deal with the Mariners, one that seems to be roughly what Woodruff would get, is only paying him $11.4 for 2023, as that would have been his final arbitration year. Castillo's $24 M years don't kick in until 2024, which would have been his first free agent year. Even figuring a $110 M payroll, Yelich and Woodruff's combined $37 M leaves over $70 M for the rest of the team. Also, there's is no evidence that 2023 isn't also going to be a "go for it" year. Trading Renfroe doesn't change that one bit. Picking up Wong's option, not trading Adames, Burnes or Woodruff (and the indications are that they won't) means the team is still in "go for it" mode. -
