  1. And of the last 46 ROY (23 AL, 23 NL), other than 2020, only two have debuted after the 15th of June (one of which was Carlos Correa; does anyone really think Frelick is going to be as good as Correa?). So the chance of him winning the ROY after being kept in the minors until the middle of June are about 4%. That's a worthwhile risk to save eight figures and have him around for an extra year. Just think about the situation with Hader if he hadn't qualified for Super Two by one day. As a side note, the right fielders for Milwaukee accounted for less than 5% of the outs made. Hell, we had Corey Hart in the outfield a number of years. Winker can't be much worse than him.
  2. If Frelick is as good as we all think he'll be, getting Super Two status will cost the team an extra $10-20 M over the four arbitration years. That kind of money isn't worth a draft pick. In another thread, everybody is justifying not spending big money on free agents because that's what a franchise in the financial position the Brewers are in has to do. Well, another thing a franchise like the Brewers has to do is doing whatever it takes to avoid having players reach Super Two status.
  3. Especially here.
  4. No. Just branding outcomes that have no basis in reality.
  5. No, there is realism and then there is unrealistic optimism.
  6. Frelick on the MLB roster anytime before the Super Two deadline is what doesn't make sense. We'll open with Yelich, Taylor and Mitchell as the outfielders, and, yes, Winker will be the primary DH. But there won't be any other outfielders on the roster. Brosseau and Hiura would be the only other possibilities. So Winker will be playing in the outfield when one of those three needs a day off (Yelich's back). And, at some early point, either Mitchell will show he needs more seasoning (which means they'll bring up Perkins, who won't be starting) or, more likely, Taylor will show that he's just a fourth outfielder. And Winker will get more and more starts in the outfield.
  7. DH is rotated between Yelich, Singleton, Hiura, Winker or anybody else that needs a day off. Just like it has been.
  8. Yelich, Taylor, Mitchell and Winker are our OFs. Winker plays more games in the OF than he does at DH.
  9. I know what to tell them, but I keep getting suspended when I do.
  10. We have Winker in RF. Hosmer takes Singleton's roster spot.
  11. I'd rather take a flier on Hosmer at league minimum than Myers at $9 M. Or Drury at $17 M. Or Brian Anderson at $6 M plus.
  12. Exit velocity is another. Esteury Ruiz has a low exit velocity, so he has no future as a hitter. But his career SLG in the minors (.457) is more than 40 points higher than William Contreras (.413). And that doesn't include all the "single and steal second" doubles that he's capable of.
  13. There's a first baseman who hit left-handers last season with a .324 / .359 / .414 slash line (.268 / .334 / .382 overall) that's available for league minimum.
  14. If that's the lineup for the final game of the year, I would be massively disappointed. Because that lineup would mean we're not even close to making the playoffs.
  15. I'll always contend that Keston is a victim of the launch-angle craze. In college and coming up, he was a line drive machine. Screaming missiles, gap to gap. A doubles hitter, not a home run hitter. Changing his swing to try to increase his launch angle is to blame for his struggles more than anything.
  16. Baseball viewership is actually not decreasing much, except for the national televised games. The viewership has become regionalized. Consistently during the season, the games on the various regional cable networks are at the top of the ratings in each market every week. It's just that fans will watch their own teams' games, but not others. Brewer fans watch Brewer games, but don't watch games that don't involve the Brewers in any sort of substantial numbers. And the same is for the fans of all teams.
  17. Ruiz's RF/9 in CF in the minors: 2.49 Frelick's RF/9 in CF in the minors: 2.38 If there's zero indication that Ruiz will ever be a CF, what position is Frelick going to have to move to?
  18. Except "Moneyball" and analytics isn't just about using advanced stats, it's using it to your advantage. The A's use it to identify cracks and gaps that other teams aren't taking advantage of. To find players that outperform their salaries. It appears they might be looking at speed as one of those cracks.
  19. Career minor league slash lines for the two players involved: .285 / .363 / .457 .281 / .346 / .414
  20. How dare you suggest Frelick isn't anything short of the savior of the franchise. Don't you realize that he will be the first player ever elected to the Hall of Fame before he retires?
  21. He IS the third rookie that would be in the lineup. Regardless of where Frelick plays, there are already two rookies that would be in the starting lineup. So he would be the third, regardless of talent level. Two guys punch you in the face. Then Mike Tyson punches you in the face. Was that punch from Tyson the #1 punch? It was probably the best punch of the lot, but it was the THIRD punch. Do you understand how counting works?
  22. I love how this has turned into how I hate Frelick. I just don't see a team that considers themselves a contender, probably in the last year of their contending window, installing a THIRD rookie into the starting lineup, especially one that has no MLB experience and less than a season above A ball. It's that simple. If we're going that route, trade Burnes, trade Woodruff, trade Adames for as many prospects that are near major league ready as we can, for the next contending window to open in 2024 or 2025.
  23. Except for the giant fact that YOU did that. And I quote "FWIW, he'll have to be on the opening day roster if they want the possibility of gaining that extra draft pick from the ROY vote. " That's YOU on Frelick. Of course, now you'll come back with some BS about how that's not what you meant. Dancing better than the love child of Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson.
  24. Prepare to be blasted by not anointing Frelick as the ROY next season.
