  1. Sarfate - 1 inning, no hits/walks, 2ks. Maybe he's settling into the role (let's hope). Braun with another jack(12) and Hammond very tough thru 5. Welch is starting to show people he's serious about being a prospect. Decent night so far.
  2. For news about Hackman, look 2 posts above your post.

  4. Garrison maybe starting to hit the "wall". Long season for the young kids.
  5. Hammond again with a good outing. AA seems to agree with him. Braun manufactures a run with boot camp Lou driving him in with a SF. EDIT: Wow, spoke too soon. Hammond cruises thru 5, hits the wall in the 6th.
  6. That's a good illustration why we shouldn't get into minutia when looking at minor league stats. I listened to the game tonite and the announcer said Gallardo was working with the Huntsville staff on commanding his fastball better. He was throwing it a lot tonite, hitting 94 - 95 on the (scoreboard) gun much of the night. It seemed that he was just going after hitters with fastballs, all of his strikeouts seemed like they were high heat. His breaking stuff wasn't used that much. If he's amped up and bringing gas all night, the ratio should be right about where it was. Don't forget, the kids are all a work in progress, and (minor league) game situations are the best time to try things out. There are going to be games when his breaking stuff does not show up.
  7. Helena was beautiful tonite. Gave up 10 runs, 15 hits, 4 walks, commit 2 errors and win by 11 runs.
  8. For those of you not listening to the Helena game, I suggest you listen in. It sounds like a slow pitch sofball game, lots of action. Brewers are swinging the bat pretty decent, but pitching has been non existent for both teams thru 2 and half.
  9. It seemed like he was really working on getting the feel for his curve, as he threw a lot more than I thought he would. A hanger was hit out, but he struck out a couple looking at curves. If he feels fine tomorrow, we should be encouraged, as he did not seem to hold back trying to play it conservative.
  10. Brewer DH'd for a week and I don't think he had a hit in that time. He's been hitting much better once he started playing SS.
  11. Nope, can't get the stream from Hammerheads.
  12. Jones tossing a shutout thru 5. Nice.
  13. I guess all we had to do was bring it to his attention, and he went ahead and signed.
  14. You know Colby, I thought the same thing, no biggie. But it's been well over a week now, and his college teammate already has a couple of AB's for Helena. One may start to wonder if there is not something more to the story at this stage.
  15. Wow, baby Brewers have their priorties straight. Pounding baby Cubs thru 6. Shouldn't we expect Goetz to tear up this league as a college senior? (ala Caufield, who lasted only a few games before moving to Helena) I have to admit, I was suprised he was even placed in AZ, and even more so that he is not tearing the league a new one. Hope he comes around soon.
  16. I'm almost sorry that I tuned in to the Brevard game. The announcer did not have a clue on most Manatees names, the worst, calling Josh Wahpepah - "Wallpepper". Score now 4-3 in the 7th, with Manatee runs scoring on a string of Jupiter errors. A Escobar error ignited a 2 run inning for Jupiter.
  17. Wow. Huntsville with a snowman in the 3rd. Hammond with a shutout through 4.
  18. Colby, I did not mean to infer that all plays in the minors are outlandish. I read posts here all the time about people getting excited or disappointed over a box score, or certain minor league stats. There are so many variations going on in the minors that we no nothing about. I was trying to say that you can't look at box scores in the minors, take them as gospel and get a true read on a kid. Batted balls that are caught in the bigs fall in in the minors. The 5 strike outs in 2 innings for a pitcher may be against 5 roster fillers or guys about to be cut. The 2 errors behind a pitcher extends innings and increases his pitch count, or he may be working on perfecting a certain pitch and walk a bunch of guys etc. I listened to that Helena game and Great Falls had 5 guys thrown out on the base paths. 5 ! Early in the game a guy from Great Falls tried to steal 3rd with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out. He was gunned down and their inning was ruined. It sounded like a little league game. Braddock was hit pretty hard, but 3 outs on the base paths bailed him out. His pitching line looks real good, but those at the game would see that he fooled few.
  19. Zack Braddock comes in and gets a double play and a K to end a rally. Looks great right? EXCEPT the double play was a rocket off the centerfield wall. A Great Falls base runner nearly over-runs another, and then goes back to 2nd thinking somehow the ball was caught. They tag out the runner going back to 2nd, then thow out the other guy trying to score, and then they throw out the hitter trying to get back to first, but the ump somehow calls him safe, starting an argument. A prime example of why all minor league stats are to be taken with a grain of salt.
  20. Manny Parra with 1 run in 5 innings. 5 k's. Flicker of hope. Huntsville already scoring 8 runs? Ryan Braun 3 for 3 with a double? What's next? Edit - Braun finishes with 4 hits.
  21. Dunn must have thought it was 2 outs and just kept running past 2nd. Jenkins did have to make a nice running catch towards the corner.
  22. JDLR worked 4 innings with 1 hit and no runs last Thursday.
  23. First 6 hitters in Brevard's order combine for 10 hits and they get shut out. Only in the minors.
  24. 2 things: 1 - Don't forget the huge signing bonuses paid to the latin pitchers this year. They didn't "cheap out" there. I know it's in lieu of having an academy, but it was still significant money. 2 - If they stay in the race this year, keeping Lee and Ohka, and maybe trading a couple of nice prospects for a pitcher at the end of his contract, there will be 6 maybe 8 picks in the top 90 players next year that have to be signed. That money will not magically show up, it has to be in budget plans now.
