  1. Mark Johnson pinch hit single to make it 5-2.
  2. Hendrickson and Krynzel sent down today.
  3. Hall doubles 4-2. Pitching change.
  4. I agree with the Sorensen statement. I'm just saying Abernathy's making a nice statement for himself that's all. He's doing his job, making it tough to send him down. The old adage is if you can rake, they'll find you a spot. Does he have the option to refuse a minor league assignment? Koskie jacks. 3-2. Jenkins with a monster double off the wall.
  5. Billy Hall throws one away to tie the score 2-2.
  6. I agree on Gross pretty much being a lock for the roster. I was more remarking that Abernathy has come out of nowhere to have quite a spring. Gerald Laird with a double.
  7. Does anyone else love these Diet Dew commercials? I laugh every time I hear them. Especially the 2 for one appetizers(because they're congealed together).
  8. Maybe Sorensen and/or Abernathy get a shot to stay if Gross flops. Abernathy is just killing the ball this spring. Cruz will be there soon enough though.
  9. LOL.. I thought it was the "Alphonse and Gastone" play. I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it, you take it. Ohka is just blowing through their starting line up (at least first time through.) We'll see how he does second time through the line up.
  10. Clark walks and JJ with a little league home run.(Double off the wall, advanced to 3rd on the throw home and Laird threw it into left field trying to get JJ at 3rd) 2-0. Koskie walks. Jenkins pops out.
  11. Ohka strikes out the side with (I'm guessing) 11 pitches. No one went to ball 2.
  12. Jared Fernandez is one of the relievers, I believe. Doug Melvin on the air for 2 innings today. Cool.
  13. For all of you who heart Gerald Laird, he's catching for the Rangers today.
  14. Brett Abernathy making a statement. 2 rbi single to tie it.
  15. I was working on a project on caught pieces of what he said. Said it was a great site and was growing in popularity. Something to the effect that serious baseball fans should be visiting this site. I believe he said he was invited by Zac to take part in a forum or an interview for the site. I know I did hear him say that he was "officially accepting the invitation here on the air." He was looking forward to participating with the BFN staff.
  16. Darren Sutton with a major shout out for BFN.
  17. Hollywood stories aside, it breaks my heart to say no to both Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose. Great, great players who knowingly made unforgivable mistakes, fully aware of what the ramifications would be.
  18. Hope you guys are right with the nugget thing, he does sound interesting. But right now, I'm looking at the Brewers picking up a pitcher that could not pitch well enough to re-sign with the most pitching bereft organization in all of baseball(probably Japanese leagues included). If this guy pans out here, Maddux and Melvin would take a giant step closer to canonization.
  19. Must be our guys' turn to sit today. Bummer.
  20. Because without him in 2004 we were all desperately crying for much needed bopper in the middle of the order. We knew that without one, the Brewers would continue to stink. That 2004 team barely won 60 games. After aquiring that much needed big bopper in the middle of the line-up they win 81 games (with their ace pitcher out for half the year). Now, there are many people want to turn right around and trade him away? To many of us who can remember past more than a year at a time, we find this incredible. To all of the stat guys with your intricate formulas, (many of which I do appreciate) I have a stat for you. Almost 20 more wins in one season. It's the only stat that counts or means anything. Carlos Lee was a (if not the) major factor in this turn around. He carried this team for half the year! Some guys when they get hot can do it for a week or 10 days. No one in their right mind looks to trade one of these guys unless you have an abundance of them(like Kenny Williams did last year). Trade him if you must, but it better be a blockbuster.
  21. Great article and compelling argument. Still vote no. I always thought Flood was a better player than Brock. He was a center fielder and batted 2nd in the line up. He could do everything, including hit well in the clutch. But for me I am not sure I like what he did. When I was a kid, I devoured the Sporting News every week. Stats, minor league prospects, everything. The players were heroes, bigger than life. After Flood and Messersmith, all they talked about was how much money was made and details of contracts. They stopped talking about baseball and started talking about $$. Boring garbage for a young baseball junkie. I never forgave Flood for that. I'm glad the players are doing well, but I liked it the old way so much better. Just think if the Braves lost Aaron or Spahn after just 4 years of service.
  22. Yep. The stats say so. So it must be right. (Be careful of what the numbers seem to say guys, please)
  23. Please don't go that far Ender. A player drives in runs when presented the opportunity (whether he bats lead off, 4th or 8th) has some value. Even if the rbis were all on fluke hits, flares and ground outs, the only way to win a game is to score runs. While I agree that this is a stat that is often granted too much credibility, to discount it as meaningless IMO, is too bold of a statement.
  24. Yes. If this guy pitched for the Yankees, Mets or Dodgers, he'd have been in a long time ago. 5 and 1 record in playoffs and World Series makes up for the few wins short of 300.
