  1. Mercedes just mowing down Great Falls tonight. He's held them to a paltry 7 runs on 9 hits and he's pitched all the way to the 3rd inning! Toby, I still trust you. Hey, he did strike out a guy.
  2. Wow. Hammond lights out in his Huntsville debut.
  3. That's 7 catchers signed. A DFE, 4 in the draft and 2 UFA's. I can't ever remember a draft year where they signed more than 1 or 2. Addressing a system need with overwhelming numbers.
  4. Garrison touched for 2 in the first and settles down for his 2nd win. Ford starting to strike out in bunches again after he almost got his avg. up to .300.
  5. I'd call 4 for 4 (3 doubles) with 6 rbi making a case for Festa. Gamel has an interesting line - 4 for 4 with 5 runs scored. Ford and Cain continue to look like prospects as table setters.
  6. Lost in all the Rogers hoopla - Jones with a very solid couple of innings after coming off the DL.
  7. As I suggested when the last Power 50 came out, the "prospect label" seems to be falling off Brad Nelson. What a shame.
  8. They should (ash)can the home run derby throughout all of baseball IMO. All I've ever seen it do is ruin swings and/or put guys in slumps.
  9. Garrison with a decent outing. I thought for sure that he would go to Helena when their season opened, but he's making a case to stay in WV.
  10. Parra great tonite, but just easing back from extended period of rehab. Tempting as it might be, jumping him from A ball to the bigs doesn't really sound that prudent. I too hope Safate can be brought up soon, but if these last few MLB games have shown anything to us, it's that walks will kill ya. Sarfate is a walk an inning guy in the minors, and his ability to scramble and battle out of jams in the minors, where he's facing maybe 3 or 4 prospects per line up would be quite different when facing a whole line up of experienced MLB players. Let's leave him there to work on his game and be better prepared to hit the bigs. We've already had Lil Ben and Eveland meltdown before our eyes. I am really anxious about Villanueva, I sure hope he's not melt down #3.
  11. Derek Miller gets uncharacteristically rocked early. Power coming back though.
  12. One of the interviews out there said they'd start Brewer at short and go from there. A couple of scouting reports I've read say if he moves it would be to left field, which suprised me, seeing as though he is supposed to be a superior athlete. CF would seem more logical, but what do any of us really know, other than what we read, and then it's only what someone wants to tell a journalist. If this guy hits, they'll find him a spot.
  13. Josh Morris - Atlanta pick 370. You can go to mlb.com and they have a draft tracker that you can sort round#, by team or alphabetical.
  14. Kelly Wunsch was drafted out of Texas A&M. www.thebaseballcube.com/players/W/kelly-wunsch.shtml
  15. Miller is a bit older than the others too, having been a 5th year senior. It would seem to make sense to promote him as opposed to pushing Inman quicker than a natural pace of a seaon at each level.
  16. Power go on a 7 - 0 run without Inman? Who'da thunk that? 4 straight error free games.
  17. Nashville Stadium to open April 2008. tennessean.com/apps/pbcs..../605200333
  18. Having Escobar back has the Brevard lineup looking sharp again. He's raised his avg. 30 points in a week. Braun with his 7th dinger & Yo - wow.
  19. We've talked about lousy announcers in many other threads, but tonite's feed from the Nationals with Bob Carpenter and Tom Paciourek is absolutely the worst announcer set I have ever heard. I'd rather listen to the someone scraping their fingernails on the blackboard.
  20. Wow - Hammond 8 complete, 2 hits, no earned runs. Braun with a forgetable day. 0 for 5 with an error.
  21. Would it be scored that way if he got picked off, got caught in a run down and was tagged out by the 2nd baseman or ss? Sounds pretty bone headed no matter the circumstance.
  22. Nice to go out knowing you can still do it. Quit on a high note and on your terms. Good for Thompson.
  23. The later pick in the first round doesn't really allow for much discussion, as we can't really focus on one or two players to talk about. I think the interest will be as high, just less talk. I agree that if we were to see a few mock drafts, we could begin to look at information and form opinions.
  24. I thought West Virginia wasn't going to piggyback. Lluberes came in for Inman after Inman's last start on the 13th. Today it was Lluberes then Inman.
