Final: West Virginia 9, Greenville (Red Sox) 5 West Virginia Site Game Summary: HOLMBERG EXTENDS STREAK IN POWER WIN Kenny Holmberg extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a solo home run in the seventh inning of Saturday night?s game at West End Field as the West Virginia Power scored seven times in the fifth inning and took game two of the series, defeating the Greenville Drive 9-5. Jimmy Mojica scored on Brad Miller?s double in the third inning to put the Power on the board. West Virginia sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring seven times on five hits. Brent Brewer walked with the bases loaded to plate the first run of the inning, Andrew Lefave singled to plate the second run, Taylor Green?s base hit brought in the next two before Mojica was issued a free pass with the bases loaded and Martin Maldonado capped off the big inning with a two-run double. West Virginia right hander Chris Toneguzzi retired the first 13 batters he faced. He walked two batters in the fifth inning before allowing a three-run homer to Matt Sheely, which was the only hit he allowed in his five innings of work. The Drive scored on Josh Reddick?s RBI groundout in the sixth inning. Holmberg hit a solo shot, his 10th of the year, in the seventh inning and Greenville plated the final run of the game on Kris Negron?s RBI triple in the eighth. Toneguzzi (1-1) allowed three runs on one hit and struck out three through five innings to get the win, Shawn Ferguson surrendered two runs on five hits over four innings out of the bullpen to secure the save and Brian Steinocher (2-7) was tagged with the loss. The Power improved to 54-24 overall and 6-4 in the second half, while the Drive fell to 35-44 overall and 6-4 in the second half with the loss. Mojica and Miller led the Power with two hits apiece while Maldonado and Green knocked in two runs each. West Virginia has scored 28 runs on 29 hits in the first two games of the series. The Power will continue the four game series against the Drive Sunday afternoon. The Power will start right hander Jeremy Jeffress (4-1, 2.96) and Greenville will start left hander Dustin Richardson (3-5, 3.82). The first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM (3:05 Central). West Virginia Box Score: Power batters draw seven walks (one by each of seven different players, nice); Jimmy Mojica splitting more time with Steve Chapman in left field lately as Brad Miller's AB's at second base increase; Chris Toneguzzi was a closer at Purdue -- the Brewers see something new to move him into a starting role... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_capafx_1 West Virginia Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_capafx_1

Link while active, text follows: tennessean.com/apps/pbcs....328/SPORTS Perfection eludes Parra, not Sounds Nashville wins fourth straight By TYLER BLANK Tennessean Staff Writer The Nashville Sounds captured their fourth win in a row, and Manny Parra followed his perfect game by allowing two hits over six innings in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Round Rock. A crowd of 9,104 at Greer Stadium saw Parra allow one run against the Express, the team he got the perfect game against on Monday. "Well, it's hard to compare tonight to a perfect game, but he pitched another good game for us," acting Sounds Manager Harry Spilman said. "He did his job." Spilman took the place of Sounds Manager Frank Kremblas, who missed the game to be with his family. There is no timetable for Kremblas' return. "I think I did all right," Parra said. "I definitely wasn't commanding the ball like I did against them the first time." Nashville took a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning on RBI hits by center fielder Tony Gwynn and right fielder Callix Crabbe. Gwynn's single knocked in Chris Barnwell and Crabbe's double brought Parra home. "(Gwynn's) doing a good job for us," Spilman said. "And then Crabbe came up with that big double down the line." Nashville got into trouble in the ninth inning. Reliever Grant Balfour gave up a home run to Express first baseman Jason Lane to open the inning. With the tying run at the plate, Balfour got Cody Ransom to ground to short. Balfour struck out the last two batters to record his fourth save. Nashville jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Gwynn singled to lead off and later came home when Brad Nelson hit into a double play. Nashville has won six of its past seven and 22 of its past 30 games. What they said: "If I execute my pitches, I can get the job done. Right now, it's a matter of being consistent." ? Parra. ***Link while active, text follows: tennessean.com/apps/pbcs....328/SPORTS Sounds' travel problems delay start of the game By TYLER BLANK Tennessean Staff Writer The Nashville Sounds game with Round Rock Saturday night was pushed back an hour to a 7:05 start. Due to bad weather, the Sounds did not arrive on their connecting flight from Dallas until 5 p.m. The team's equipment was unloaded next to the dugout at 5:45 p.m., prompting officials to postpone the game for an hour. "I tip my hat to the players; the way they came out and performed," acting Manager Harry Spilman said. "Especially after the long travel day we had today." The Sounds were returning from a series in Albuquerque, N.M. Kremblas gone: Spilman, the Sounds hitting coach, will be the acting manager until Frank Kremblas returns. "It's a day-to-day thing," Spilman said. "We'll just have to wait and see." Spilman has managed in Cleveland's organization. "It's different; I think the real competitiveness comes out of you," Spilman said. "You got a lot of decisions to make." Hit streaks: Three Sounds carried a season-best hitting streak into Saturday's game. Tony Gwynn extended his streak to five games with a first inning single. Gwynn also had an RBI single in the fifth, which knocked in Chris Barnwell to give Nashville a 2-1 lead. Left fielder Drew Anderson also extended his hit streak to 10 games ? the Sounds third-longest of the season ? on a fifth-inning double. Joe Dillon had the night off, but has hit safely in nine consecutive games, going 13-for-35 with a .371 average. He has a .345 average with seven home runs and 16 RBIs in his last 15 home games. Parra perfection: Sounds starter Manny Parra retired 32 consecutive batters dating back to his first Triple-A start June 20 against Iowa through the second inning of Saturday's game. Parra retired two in the sixth inning of the Iowa game, then was perfect in the Sounds' 3-0 win Monday at Round Rock. Parra retired the side in the first inning Saturday before hitting Jason Lane with a pitch to start the second inning. Notable: The Sounds have the best record in the Pacific Coast League, at 49-33, and are on a roll at home. The Sounds sit 3 1/2 games ahead of second-place Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Nashville has won 26 of its past 34 home games and own the PCL's best home record at 26-12. Saturday marked the 52nd occasion in which the Sounds have scored the game's first run. Nashville is 36-16 when scoring the game's first run. The Sounds recorded their 20th victory in the month of June, which leads all PCL teams. Nashville had not had a 20-win month since joining the PCL in 1998.

Final: Nashville 3, Round Rock (Astros) 2 Nashville Site Game Summary: Link for new Manny Parra photo, text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2420 Parra, Sounds Defeat Express In Series Opener NASHVILLE ? The Nashville Sounds opened their homestand with the club?s fourth straight victory, a 3-2 triumph over the visiting Round Rock Express on Saturday evening in front of 9,104 fans at Greer Stadium. The victory was the sixth in the last seven contests for Nashville (49-33), which maintained its 2 ½ game lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Sounds starter Manny Parra (2-1) earned a win over the Express for his second straight outing. The southpaw allowed one run on two hits while walking a pair of batters and striking out four over six innings of work. Nashville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tony Gwynn scored on Brad Nelson?s bases-loaded double play grounder. The Express tied it at 1-1 in the fifth when Cody Ransom drew an inning-opening walk and scored two batters later on Barry Wesson?s RBI single through the left side. The knock halted Parra?s consecutive hitless innings streak at 13 frames. Drew Anderson doubled to open the bottom of the fifth inning to extend his longest hitting streak of the year to 10 games, the third double-digit effort by a Sounds player this season. The Sounds took a 3-1 lead by scoring a pair of two-out unearned runs later in the frame. Chris Barnwell, who reached on a fielder?s choice that erased Anderson, scored on a Gwynn RBI single to break the tie before Parra came plateward on Callix Crabbe?s bloop double down the left field line. AUDIO: Callix Crabbe RBI Double -- www.nashvillesounds.com/a...206-30.mp3 Greg Aquino and Joe Thatcher each worked a scoreless inning following Parra?s departure before Grant Balfour took over in the top of the ninth. Jason Lane greeted the right-hander with a solo homer to center field, the outfielder?s fifth longball of the season. The blast reduced the Nashville lead to 3-2. The Aussie recovered to retire the next three batters in order to notch his fourth save in five opportunities. Round Rock starter Chance Douglass (0-2) took the loss after he allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits in six frames. The teams continue the series with a 6 p.m. meeting on Sunday evening. Nashville left-hander Adam Pettyjohn (3-2, 4.20) will make the start to face Round Rock hurler Chan Ho Park (5-6, 5.19). Nashville Box Score: Lineup versatility on display once again (Vinny Rottino 3B, Callix Crabbe RF, Ozzie Chavez 2B, etc.); top three in the order (Tony Gwynn, Crabbe, Rottino) each reached base twice; an embarassment of riches on the AAA level, it seems, more kudos to the organizational hierarchy... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_nasaaa_1 Nashville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_nasaaa_1

Final: Helena 8, Missoula (Diamondbacks) 3 Link while active, text follows: www.missoulian.com/articl...orts02.txt Brewers down Osprey once more By MICHAEL HEINBACH, The Missoulian MISSOULA ? A beautiful sunset fell across the sky Saturday night over the third-base side at Ogren-Allegiance Park during the Missoula Osprey?s Pioneer League contest with the Helena Brewers. That and a free bag of peanuts was about all the 2,845 Osprey fans in attendance had to cheer about. Brewers right-handed starter R.J. Seidel kept the O?s off the scoreboard and hitless through six complete innings and third baseman Zelous Wheeler continued his personal assault on Missoula pitching as Helena picked up its second win in as many evenings over the Osprey with an 8-3 victory. Down 7-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Missoula got a two-out double by right fielder Anthony Smith off Brewers reliever Corey Frerichs for the team?s first base hit. After Gerardo Bustamante?s third walk of the game a run-scoring pinch-hit single by Pete Clifford was followed by a two-run single by designated hitter Bill Musselman. It came in the O?s second straight Peanut Inning after the team failed to score in the sixth and management tried to keep the hometown faithful entertained. But that was Missoula?s total offensive output on the evening as the Osprey dropped to 5-7. Afterward, O?s left fielder Derrick Walker, playing his second season in Missoula, was ready to take the team?s mini-slide in stride. ?Every day is a new adventure in this game,? he said. ?Sometimes you hit the ball hard and the hits just don?t come. Obviously we haven?t been swinging the bats real well, but we just have to compete.? Seidel (2-0) was brilliant in his third outing of the season against the Osprey. In his six frames, last year?s 16th-round pick from Central High School in La Crosse, Wisc., walked two and struck out four. ?He was just like an everyday righty,? said obviously displeased Osprey skipper Damon Mashore. ?He got his velocity into the early 90s, but it was just everyday stuff.? Wheeler, who had four of Helena?s 14 hits in the Brewers? 10-2 victory Friday night, got things cranking for the visitors in the top of the second off Osprey starter Santo Baez (0-2), who lost his second straight decision to the Brewers. Wheeler followed Eric Newton?s single to lead off the inning with a towering two-run homer to right, his first of the season, giving Helena a 2-0 lead. He added a seventh-inning double to finish 2-for-4. After back-to-back errors by Missoula third baseman Houston Summers and shortstop Eli Rumler, runners came home on Eric Farris? two-out single as Helena took a 4-0 lead. Shaky defense on the left side of the infield plagued the Osprey throughout the evening. Summers and Rumler contributed three miscues apiece as Missoula committed seven errors in the contest. Baez took the brunt of the team?s struggles in the field, allowing two earned runs on five hits over four innings. He fanned four and walked one. Harvard product Steffan Wilson had a pair of singles and was the only other Brewer other than Wheeler to have a multi-hit evening. The Brewers face the Great Falls White Sox tonight at 4:00 PM (5:00 PM Central) in Great Falls. Helena Box Score: It sure seems that a "starting nine" is being established, with minor modifications day-to-day; if you think Damian Miller's "LaCrosse Day" at Miller Park was big, wait until R.J. Seidel gets his someday -- interesting comments in the article above from the Missoula manager; did you listen to Jeff Isom's comments on Caleb Gindl in the linked interview above? web.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_misrok_1 Helena Game Log: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_misrok_1 Go to the 48:00 minute mark of the archive for the Helena 2nd, which includes the unusual play below, followed by Zelous Wheeler's home run -- two pitches, two calls, it's quick... Final: Nashville 10, Albuquerque (Marlins) 2 Nashville Site Game Summary: Link for Brad Nelson photo, text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2418 Sounds Sweep Away Isotopes With 10-2 Rout ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? First baseman Brad Nelson belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs to lead Nashville to a 10-2 rout of Albuquerque on Friday evening at Isotopes Park as the Sounds completed a sweep of the three-game series. With the victory, the Sounds (48-33) extended their lead to 2 ½ games over Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Nashville finished a successful road trip with a 5-2 record. Left-hander Zach Jackson (9-3) picked up his Pacific Coast League-leading ninth victory by limiting the Isotopes to one run on five hits over seven strong innings. The win was the southpaw?s fourth in his last six starts, all of which have been Nashville triumphs. The Sounds continued to crush Albuquerque pitching, belting a season-high four home runs and ripping eight of their 14 hits for extra bases. In the series, Nashville posted 23 extra-base hits among its 43 knocks against the Isotopes. Nine of the Sounds? 10 runs in the contest came home with two outs in an inning. Nashville posted back-to-back double-digit scoring totals in the final two games of the series, a feat they accomplished for only the second time this season (also April 14-15 at New Orleans). Chris Barnwell put the Sounds on the board in the top of the second inning with a two-out, two-run homer off Isotopes starter Seth Etherton. The longball was the infielder?s fifth of the year. After Scott Seabol halved the Nashville lead with a leadoff home run against Jackson in the bottom of the frame, his third roundtripper in three games and 18th of the year, the Sounds pulled comfortably ahead with a five-run third against Etherton. Nelson highlighted the big inning with a two-out grand slam off Etherton that came on the first pitch he saw from the right-hander. AUDIO: Brad Nelson Grand Slam -- www.nashvillesounds.com/a...206-29.mp3 Drew Anderson followed the blast with a double to extend his season-best hitting streak to nine games before scoring the frame?s fifth run on Barnwell?s subsequent RBI single to make it a 7-1 contest. The Sounds added a pair of runs in the fourth when Joe Dillon belted a mammoth two-out, two-run homer to left field off Albuquerque reliever Jesus Silva, who was making his first Triple-A appearance of the season. Dillon?s four-bagger, his team-leading 15th of the year, extended the veteran?s hitting streak to a season-high nine games. Nelson struck again for Nashville in the fifth, leading off the frame with his second homer of the evening to push the visitors? advantage to 10-1. The longball, which came against Silva, was the slugger?s 11th of the year. Albuquerque leftfielder John Gall (3-for-4) contributed the Isotopes? second run when he belted a two-out solo homer to left off Sounds reliever Dennis Sarfate, his seventh roundtripper of the year. Etherton (0-2) remained winless on the year as he absorbed the loss after giving up eight runs (three earned) on seven hits over only 3 1/3 innings of work. The Sounds travel home to Music City on Saturday to open a four-game homestand against the Round Rock Express (AAA-Astros). Nashville leads the season series between the clubs, 5-3. Left-hander Manny Parra (1-1, 1.20), who tossed the second perfect game in Sounds history in his last outing, will start Saturday?s 6 p.m. series opener for Nashville. Round Rock will counter with right-hander Chance Douglass (0-1, 7.71). It will be Faith Night at Greer Stadium featuring a pre-game concert by Jessie Daniels. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a Nashville Sounds baseball card set, courtesy of H.G. Hill. Final: Chattanooga (Reds) 9, Huntsville 8, ten innings Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/n...ewsId=1246 Lookouts Win Long Game on Long Night Luis Bolivar singled home the game-winning run in the tenth inning to lift Chattanooga to a bizarre 9-8 victory over Huntsville Friday night in the final game of a six-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Lookouts won four out of six to improve to 9-3 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 4-8 after a second straight four games to two series loss to begin the second half. Tyrell Godwin led off the tenth with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on an errant throw from catcher Carlos Corporan, who was in his first inning behind the plate. Luis Pena struck out Craig Tatum and pinch-hitter Marland Williams before Bolivar stroked a single into right field to deliver Godwin with the decisive run. Carlos Guevara came on in the bottom of the inning and retired the side in order to earn his tenth save of the season. Ruben Mateo?s two-run home run and Brendan Katin?s run-scoring single gave the Stars a 3-0 edge in the first inning and Steve Moss?s leadoff long ball in the fourth extended the home team?s cushion to 4-0. Huntsville starter Mark DiFelice spun six shutout innings in his second start to extend his consecutive innings scoreless streak to a franchise-record 29 2/3. The game had been played in a steady, sometimes intense, rain, lightning and thunder from the bottom of the second until it was halted with two outs, a runner at third and a 2-0 count on Brendan Katin in the home seventh. Tyler Pelland retired Katin to end the inning when play resumed before the Lookouts tallied eight times against David Johnson and Robert Hinton in the eighth inning to take the lead. The outburst, the biggest scoring inning against the Stars this season, was highlighted by a two-run double by Jay Bruce and a two-run double by Bolivar. The Stars tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded, bases clearing double by Lou Palmisano and a fielding error on third baseman Enrique Cruz on a Katin grounder that allowed pinch-runner Mel Stocker to cross the plate. Palmisano had his second three-hit game of the season and extended his hitting to a season-best eight games in a row. The Stars begin a four-game series at West Tenn Saturday night with right-hander Will Inman taking the hill against Diamond Jaxx? right-hander Andy Baldwin. Final: West Virginia 19, Greenville (Red Sox) 6 West Virginia Site Game Summary: POWER OFFENSE ERUPTS IN GREENVILLE The Greenville Drive had won their last eight games at West End Field until the West Virginia Power rolled into town and scored 19 runs on 19 hits to snap Greenville?s eight game home winning streak with a 19-6 victory on Friday night. The problems for the Drive started in the first inning where West Virginia scored five times. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Taylor Green and Andrew Lefave and Kenny Holmberg?s two-run homer, his ninth of the season. Charlie Fermaint scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to give West Virginia a 6-0 edge. The Drive cut that lead in half with a three-run fourth inning, but West Virginia answered a half inning later with three runs in the fifth. Holmberg singled in a run and Andy Bouchie doubled in two. A wild pitch plated Matt Sheely for Greenville in the sixth inning. Sheely reached on a fielder?s choice to plate a run in the seventh inning and Reid Engel knocked in Greenville?s last run on an RBI single in the eighth. Chuckie Caufield hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, his third of the year. The Power batted around in the eighth inning, scoring five times on four hits. The Power surge wasn?t complete until they scored four more times on four hits in the top of the ninth inning, highlighted by Brad Miller?s solo home run, his first of the year. Mike Ramlow (4-2) had a no hitter through three and a third and managed the win after surrendering three runs on five hits through five innings while Felix Doubront (2-5) was tagged with the loss. The Power improved to 53-24 overall and 5-4 in the second half, while the Drive fell to 35-43 overall and 6-3 in the second half with the loss. Seven Power players recorded multi-hit games. Holmberg, Caufield, Lefave and Green paced the Power with three hits each. Holmberg led the way with five RBI, Caufield knocked in three while he and Lefave both scored four times each. The Power will continue the four game series against the Drive Saturday night. The Power will start right hander Chris Toneguzzi (0-1, 5.00) and Greenville will start left hander Dustin Richardson (3-5, 3.82). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central). Final: Helena 10, Missoula (Diamondbacks) 2 Link while active, text follows: www.missoulian.com/articl...orts02.txt Brewers' two-out rallies doom Osprey By BOB MESEROLL Missoulian sports editor The suspense was palpable. The tension built through seven-plus innings Friday night at Ogren-Allegiance Park. A T-shirt night crowd of 2,379 held its breath. Then it happened. The public address announcer read the winning 50-50 ticket number, sending many of those same fans heading for the exits. The Helena Brewers removed most of the doubt about who would win the game with a five-run fourth inning en route to a 10-2 win over the Missoula Osprey. The loss dropped the Osprey to 5-6 in the Pioneer League's North Division. Helena, which has won five of eight against the Osprey, also stands at 5-6. Osprey starter Tom Layne (1-1), a 6-foot-3, 185-pound southpaw out of Mount Olive (N.C.) College, surrendered his first runs of the season after working eight scoreless innings over his first two starts. The Brewers touched Layne for a single run in the third on a two-out single by Zealous Wheeler. That just foreshadowed the fourth when the Brewers sent 10 men to the plate and scored all five runs after two were out. ?He went away from the gameplan, flat out,? a visibly perturbed Missoula manager Damon Mashore said, while declining to reveal the gameplan. ?He gave up a lot of one-handed hits today, not much hard contact.? The hardest hit balls of the inning were a triple by shortstop Matt Cline that bounced off the base of the center-field wall, and a line drive by right fielder Caleb Gindl that Missoula center fielder Pete Clifford played into an inside-the-park home run. Clifford dove for the sinking liner, which was well out of his reach. By the time the Osprey tracked down the ball, Gindl was well on his way home. Gindl, a fifth-round draft choice out of Pace High School in Florida, has been a thorn in the side of the Osprey so far this season. After a 3-for-5 night Friday, Gindl is 16-for-32 with 10 RBIs in eight games against the Osprey. ?He's a good hitter,? Mashore said. ?He's a high pick for a reason.? Layne lasted just 3 2-3 innings, giving up six runs - five earned - on 10 hits and a walk. Helena starter Roque Mercedes (1-1), meanwhile, kept the Osprey bats quiet, using a fastball that topped out in the low 90s mixed with an effective off-speed pitch. Mercedes shut out the O's on three hits through six innings, walking one while striking out three. He retired 11 straight Missoula batters from the second into the sixth inning. ?He changed speeds and located, like he did last time,? Mashore said, referring to opening night when Mercedes held the O's to three runs over six innings. One bright spot for the Osprey was the 3-for-4 performance of right fielder Anthony Smith, who was sent to Missoula from Yakima on Friday. He took the roster spot of Connor Janes, who was released. Smith, a 21st-round draft pick this year out of St. John's, was 0-for-11 for Yakima. Smith had a single and two doubles, scoring the Osprey's final run in the ninth on a fielder's choice by Clifford. Missoula's other run came in the eighth when Clifford led off with a triple and scored on a sharp ground single up the right-field line by Sean Coughlin. The two teams wrap up their three-game series Saturday at 7:15 PM (8:15 Central). It will be the ninth meeting between the two teams, who won't meet again until July 30 in Helena. Helena Box Score: Four singles for Zelous Wheeler -- we're going to go with the new spelling on his first name, based on most of the info that we have, no "a"; fine line for Roque Mercedes, but at this level, it should be... web.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_misrok_1 Helena Game Log: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_misrok_1 -
