  1. The Padres didn't waste much time in placing infielder Jorge Quintana, acquired along with Nestor Cortes and cash in the (at first glance lopsided?) Brandon Lockridge deal, into A-Ball. Quintana, who won't turn 19 until April, was the top money signing (at $1.4 million) in the Brewers 2024 international signing class that included Jesus Made and Luis Pena. Quintana is playing for Lake Elsinore in the offensively-charged California League, starting five games at shortstop thus far. For the Maryvale Brewers in 2025, Quintana started 40 games at short and six at third base. Small sample coming off his .752 Brewers OPS this summer, Quintana is 3-for-19 with a double, two walks, one HBP, 8 K's, 1 SB. His numbers for both organizations, as well as his 2024 figures, are available via the MiLB Player Page link above. Quintana, the switch-hitting Venezuela native, does get to wear one of the cooler hats in all of baseball, however (nothing against the classic Mudcats alternative if he were still a Brewers farmhand).
  2. Wisconsin Press Release: Tanner Gillis Named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week Rattlers starter allows two hits and strikes out seven over 6-1/3 scoreless innings at Peoria GRAND CHUTE, WI – Tanner Gillis earned the Midwest League’s Pitcher of the Week Award with a great start at Peoria on August 7. He is the third Wisconsin Timber Rattler to win a weekly award this season. Gillis pitched 6-1/3 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out seven as he earned the win in Wisconsin’s 9-0 victory over the Chiefs. He is 2-2 with a 2.08 ERA in nine starts with Wisconsin. Gillis has walked five and struck out 26 over 43-1/3 innings pitched in the Midwest League this season. The other two Timber Rattlers to win weekly awards this season are pitcher Tyson Hardin (May 19) and outfielder Hedbert Pérez (May 26).

  4. Sunday 8/10: Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "Jaymes and Ryan talked about yet another great week on the heels of a wild sweep of the Mets, assessed the offense and accusations that the Brewers are "lucky," handicapped the ROY and MOY races in the NL and looked ahead to the 2026 OF." Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "How can anyone get enough of these Milwaukee Brewers? Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe re-visit the latest perfect week for the best team in baseball, with an unbelievable Mets series and a winning streak of nine games. From Blake Perkins' game-saving throw, William Contreras' re-discovered power stroke, Isaac Collins capping another week with a walk-off, Joey Ortiz's big at-bats and more, the Brewers are in the midst of a summer we may never forget. Do we have any explanation yet? How have the Brewers avoided a drop-off in recent seasons like Minnesota and Baltimore have endured? Is there any small concern in the rotation after a couple injuries? In Three Up Three Down (32:00), the guys remark upon the capitalization of pocket pancakes, a crazy second chance and the sneaky power of Brice Turang. In Remembrew When (51:30), JR looks back at another game-ending defensive play against New York, one perhaps forgotten to time. Curt Blanche (57:30) discusses something else forgotten in the canon of summer treats. Then, JR chats with Badgers basketball player Brad Davison about his basketball career in Spain, early fatherhood and his remaining connection to UW. And why is that on a Brewers podcast, you might ask? Davison was also high-school teammates with Brewers sensation Isaac Collins." 7. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transaction: Milwaukee Brewers signed free agent RHP Travis MacGregor to a minor league contract, assigned MacGregor to AA Biloxi. Via the Shuckers: MacGregor, 27, has made 218 career minor league appearances, including 36 this season with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas Rangers organization. The Tarpon Springs, Florida, native was originally selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 9, Nashville 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Zimmermann Goes Five Strong Innings in Sounds 9-5 Loss to Jacksonville - Three Sounds Have Multi-Hit Games, Account for Six of Eight Nashville Hits The always detailed game summary is packed as ever - yes, there were 13 stolen bases combined in the game, we'll add here that no baserunner was thrown out. Jacksonville stole eight bases, although they had zero through five innings thanks to the work of LH starter Bruce Zimmermann, as detailed in the report. Technically Jeferson Quero saw eight SB's go against his ledger, although I have often thought double steals really punish catchers unless they are somehow accounted for in the defensive stats. The Jumbo Shrimp pulled off two double steals in the 6th inning alone. Surely the Sounds' media team was being polite to the "new guy", but skirting around mentioning LH reliever Brian Fitzpatrick's unfortunate results in his debut AAA outing is not the way to go. Better performances are sure to come, Brian. Manager Rick Sweet always has the Sunday pre-game interview slot, and when that chat is released on Monday, it should be an interesting conversation with Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem given the winless results this week (thus far). AAA baseball is a bit of lawless Thunderdome given the vagaries of roster assignments, unanticipated emergency MLB callups, etc. Sweet has seen it all over the years. As he should, he'll cite the contributions to the success of the big-league club. There are five miscellaneous video clips waiting for you at the team's "X" feed this morning. Career change, Nick Kahle? Kahle has pitched (sparingly) in each of the past five seasons, yet he has a 0.32 (!) WHIP) to brag about. Here are those career pitching stats. CF Steward Berroa netted a golden sombrero as part of an 0-for-5 night. Yes, he is on the Brewers 40-man roster, and you'd likely win a few variations of a bar bet with that info. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 4, Knoxville (Cubs) 2 Box Score and Game Log Catch up with the latest Biloxi pre-game audio interview archives Burke, Hunt Lead Shuckers to 4-2 Win over Smokies - Burke stars with three hits, first Double-A home run, Hunt ties season-high with six shutout innings Go the 02:28:00 hour/minute mark here if you are an MiLB.TV subscriber. We shouldn't complain (but will), because you won't see LF Adam Hall's actual sliding catch, described as a really good play. The camera never panned to the outfield during the play itself. What you will see is the aftermath in which Hall is removed, barely being able to place any pressure at all on his left leg, aided off the field. As the Smokies announcer says, "that stinks". Otherwise, plenty of positives in this one, none more exciting than the return of a 2024 version of RH starter KC Hunt. As Hunt's game log shows, he had very positive outings approximating Saturday's effort on both July 24th and 29th. So, this newest fantastic line of 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K builds upon some recent success. We are normally spoiled by Biloxi's "X" feed, and you will find various highlights there now, but none of Hunt's mound efforts were captured. Do you think Blake Burke is having a fine week back in his college (and championship) home? We are guessing "yes-sir-ree-bob", both on and off the field. Talk about a timely call-up. Outside of Burke's a-triple-shy-of-a-cycle night (and he did triple twice while with Wisconsin), there were only three other Shuckers knocks, all singles. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Wisconsin 4, Peoria (Cardinals) 3 Box Score and Game Log Wisconsin Escapes with Win Over Chiefs - Timber Rattlers hold on for 4-3 win despite several Peoria rallies in final four innings If this report was posted seven minutes later than usual, it's because I really enjoyed this video I was inspired to watch after reading Voice of the TimberRattlers Chris Mehring's linked game report. Each of the three Wisconsin pitchers (Ryan Birchard, Aaron Rund and Yerlin Rodriguez) contributed to the ten walks issued while each also threw a wild pitch (Peoria hurlers issued five free passes). I think we can invent a word and call Birchard's mound effort "Birchardy". Just one hit allowed through five innings, but three runs charged, due partly to five walks and Rund having two inherited runners score (though noted Rund came in with zero outs recorded). Welcome back, Marco Dinges! Line drive RBI single to center field in his first at-bat since June 29th (hamstring injury rounding third base that game). Dinges also walked twice and fanned once before what we imagine was a planned exit. May Jackson Chourio have such success when he returns! Oh yes, the kids. Luis Pena with an uncustomary 0-for-5, two K's while committing an error playing shortstop. This was Pena's first 0-for-5 game of 2025, though surprisingly he had two such efforts in July of 2024 during his remarkable .393 campaign in the Dominican Summer League. Jesus Made singled twice and walked, throwing error playing second base for the 9th time this year. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Game One: Carolina 3, Lynchburg (Guardians) 2 Box Score and Game Log Final, Game Two: Lynchburg 8, Carolina 6 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Split Doubleheader with Lynchburg The early stages of our "as-it-happens" forum thread contained lively discussion on Game One starting here. Check it out and get a taste of the fun that is had there. The Mudcats showed four players on the bench for each of the seven-inning contests. Catcher Edgardo Ordonez last played on July 27th, a contest in which he played the full game, so we are unaware of his injury status. Otherwise, the full position player roster received at least one start, with second baseman Josh Adamczewski sitting out the nightcap. The most productive day at the plate belonged to 19-year-old left fielder Tyler Rodriguez, a RH-bat who doubled, singled, walked twice and stole two bases during the course of the two games. I count six video highlights at the Mudcats' "X" feed his AM, feel free to visit and be entertained despite the nightcap defeat. RH starter Miqueas Mercedes, who only turned 19 years old last month, made his Carolina League debut, up from Arizona. His professional WHIP of 1.53 doesn't jump off the page, to be sure, but the organization liked enough to merit the bump, though the final line on this day were not shiny, as you'll see in your box score perusal. Final: DSL Orioles Orange 5, DSL Brewers Gold 3 Box Score and Game Log Final: DSL Tampa Bay 13, DSL Brewers Blue 9 Box Score and Game Log These were rematches from Friday, with the Orioles taking two of three games within a 24-hour span due to the completion of a suspended game. The Rays club also found a bit of revenge on Saturday. These much-appreciated words are via my fellow Link Reporter "Ro" in our previously linked forum thread: "The DSL playoff push is fizzling, unfortunately. Blue scored 7 runs in the 4th inning to grab a 9-6 lead but conceded 7 over the final 3 innings to fall 13-9 to Tampa Bay. C Yoneiker Lugo (3-for-5, double, 3 RBIs; .791 OPS), CF Brailyn Antunez (3-for-5, HBP) and 1B/LF Angel Gonzalez (1-for-2, double, walk, HBP; .802 OPS) had solid days at the plate. The Gold squad were 3-hit in a 5-3 defeat to Orioles Orange, but they did draw 15 walks. SS Cristopher Acosta (1-for-2, 3 walks, SB) was their top performer. Gold’s spark-plug leadoff INF Juan Martinez (.977 OPS) has missed the last 2.5 games. And the Jonathan Rangel (.939 OPS) catching experiment seems muted (caught 2 of his last 11 games played; sat today)." It's a traditional day off in the DSL while the four full-season squads wrap up series, as the Shuckers and Timber Rattlers look forward to coming home. Note that the Nashville game doesn't get underway until 6:00 PM Central. Have a great Sunday, all! Do I even need to say, "Go Brewers!" - they don't need my help, it seems! Milwaukee Brewers sent LHP Robert Gasser on a rehab assignment to Nashville Sounds. LHP Brian Fitzpatrick assigned to Nashville Sounds from Biloxi Shuckers. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers activated C Marco Dinges from the 7-day injured list. RHP Chang Tzu-Chun Lin assigned to DSL Brewers Gold from DSL Brewers Blue. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 4, Nashville 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Reach Season-High Five-Game Losing Streak with Loss to Jumbo Shrimp - Gasser tosses 3.0 scoreless innings in rehab assignment As you review his three innings, you'll see that rehabbing southpaw Robert Gasser had to deal with baserunners throughout yet kept things scoreless. Leadoff single but Gasser utilizes a pickoff to shorten the first inning. A leadoff man reaches in the 2nd on shortstop Ethan Murray's error. That inning also included a hit-by-pitch but ended on an infield single. How, did you ask? Gasser's final frame began with a walk and a line drive single, yet he worked around that mess. You could argue that these situations were more beneficial to Gasser's progression than if he had retired nine men in order. Nashville's offensive woes are really severe as of late, even their one run in this game was unearned. No excuse, really, there's no position players on the IL right now. I can't remember the last time Manager Rick Sweet had a six-man bench as he did here. The current roster composition is at the 28-man AAA maximum and is at 13 pitchers (plus rehabbers Gasser and Rob Zastryzny) and 15 position players, including four catchers (Alfaro, Haase, Quero, Kahle). This should become official over the weekend, at which point we'll likely see Nick Kahle moved to the Development List. The most impressive part of the Nashville evening was their "Stand Up to Cancer" proceedings and watch the full YouTube video linked here should you wish to embrace Kalli's journey. Hers is the true victory we didn't get on the field. The Sounds media team did sneak in ways to provide other brief highlights, available at their "X" feed. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Completion of Thursday's Suspended Game: Knoxville (Cubs) 2, Biloxi 0 Box Score and Game Log Final, Regularly Scheduled Game: Biloxi 2, Knoxville 1, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Shuckers, Smokies Split Doubleheader on Friday in Knoxville - Roberts strikes out three in Shuckers debut, Lara adds to Southern League doubles lead Four lonely singles spread over two days spelled doom in the delayed finish to the opener. Mike Boeve was the designated hitter to begin the game on Thursday (walk, pop out), but was pinch-hit for immediately when the game resumed and also did not play in Game Two. Both through improved health and improved performance, much has to be done to regain any semblance of Boeve's previous prospect luster. Newcomer LH reliever Raúl Alcantara's organizational debut was a downer, the Brewers do often look at age (in this case, 24) when bringing in available minor league players. Unless Alcantara was signed for 2026 as well, he'll be a minor league free agent in the fall. Luis Lara doubled twice, and darn if a league-leading 26 doubles isn't impressive. Only once has a double been extended into a triple, and Lara still is sitting on just one home run (four with Wisconsin in 2024), but it's certainly been a successful season for the premium-glove 20-year-old center fielder (21 in November). Two K's, a base hit, then another K for the Shucker who had a better debut than Alcantara's. Without Brock Wilken and Luke Adams, this position player group is plodding along and isn't inspiring future playoff success. If we as fans are feeling forlorn without those two, you can imagine how Brock and Luke feel. In case you missed it from last Sunday via our special contributor @ARobsBrewCrew: "Unfortunately, Adams’ shoulder hasn’t progressed as hoped since his collision back in June. I spoke with him today and he is still unsure how long he will be out. It seems as though his season might be in jeopardy." Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Peoria (Cardinals) 7, Wisconsin 0 Box Score and Game Log Chiefs Shut Out Wisconsin - Rattlers held to two hits in 7-0 loss If the T-Rats were only going to have two hits, at least they were from Luis Pena (double) and Jesus Made (single). Plus, both of the young men walked. A lot of the Rattlers drew free passes (the game summary almost gets you dizzy keeping track of the mentions because all those walks led to no one crossing home plate). Could that be because of this below? BASERUNNING: CS Garcia, Y 2 (12, 2nd base by Davis/Campos, 2nd base by Davis/Campos); Guilarte (8, 2nd base by Davis/Campos); Made (1, 2nd base by Ramirez, J/Campos). That's 0-for-4 in that department - kudos, young man, wow. Pena played shortstop, Made was the DH. Ejections: Timber Rattlers pitcher Patricio Aquino ejected by 1B umpire Richy Arredondo (9th). Guess Aquino had something to say after he allowed two runs in the bottom of the 8th. At least Wisconsin didn't have to use another pitcher at that point. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 3, Lynchburg (Guardians) 1 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Down Lynchburg The go-ahead blow came early - If someone in your life is feeling down and needs something beautiful to brighten their mood, you can always share Josh Adamczewski's game log with them. Adamczewski's high school teammate RHP Griffin Tobias threw three shutties here, and the other arms, including youngest-in-the-Carolina-League southpaw Enderson Mercado, were on point as well. Congratulations on your professional debut, RHP Michael Fowler - 1-2-3 with two K's. More impressive? The just-turned-23-year-old's educational accomplishment. Final: DSL Brewers Blue 7, DSL Tampa Bay 1 Box Score and Game Log Courtesy of @Ro Mueller in our forum thread: Really solid 7-1 win for DSL Brewers Blue over DSL Tampa Bay (31-17), grabbing a 2-1 lead by the 4th inning before pouring on 5 runs over the final 2 frames, all while 2-hitting the opposition. 17-year-old RHP Steven Duran (5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 1 K; season ERA 3.43) was dominant in relief of terrific 17-year-old starting RHP Diustin Mayorquin (3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K; season ERA 2.62). OF Frandy Lafond hit his first homer of 2025 (after 3 last season) in a 2-for-4 effort with a stolen base; a solo shot to the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning. 2B Moises Polanco went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and a stolen base to lift his season OPS to .870. 3B Joan Gutierrez also had a 2-for-4, 2 RBI day, while 1B Jefer Lista went 1-for-3 with 2 walks and a stolen base. Final, completion of July 28th's game: DSL Orioles Orange 4, DSL Brewers Gold 1 Box Score and Game Log Once again via my partner-in-crime Link Reporter: DSL Gold was leading its July 28 game against DSL Orioles Orange 1-0 when a rain delay struck with 2 outs in the Orioles' half of the 5th inning. One more measly out on that day and they'd have likely been granted the Win. Instead, they conceded a 4-run 8th inning today to drop that contest. But at least 19-year old starting RHP Ruben Saldana now gets his gem officially on record: 4.2 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 5 Ks. RHP Fabian Reyes (2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks) was credited with a rather unfair blown save, having inherited the bases loaded with nobody out from RHP Enrique Velasquez (2.1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 WP) in the 8th inning. Final, Regularly Scheduled Game: DSL Brewers Gold 7, DSL Orioles Orange 2, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log We've got a professional debut for 19-year-old Chang Tzu-Chun Lin from Taiwan, as he started and pitched 1 inning for DSL Brewers Gold in their second game of the day: pop-out, fly out, walk, wild pitch, line out. My longtime baseball bud Kyle Lobner asked me, and I wish I knew: I would love to know what the process is for working with Lin at the academy - did they find a translator who speaks Chinese and Spanish? And if so, is that translator now living with him at the academy? Lin will hopefully make his way to Wilson at Low-A eventually and we'll learn more. Corner outfielder Alexander Frias (listed at 6'2", 177, won't turn 18 years old until March) was a $350,000 January signing and the LH bat is doing well despite missing nearly all of June with an injury - .329/.410/.411, we can quibble that 20 of 24 hits thus far are singles, including three in this game. Love that impressive 17-year-old pitcher Joan Pena is a southpaw. There's "extra" action again on Saturday as the Mudcats play two in an effort to make up for the torrential rain earlier this week. They get underway at 4:00 Central to kick off the non-Dominican League action for the day. Enjoy your summer Saturday, everyone, not many left! 16. Transactions: RHP Shelby Miller returned to Milwaukee from Nashville Sounds rehab. Milwaukee Brewers recalled RHP Tobias Myers from Nashville Sounds.
