Not only that, but we have a plethora of talent in the minors and are gonna have a real 40 man roster crunch next year. We need to trade a vet with a pretty good prospect to get the best major league ready player we can in any trades we are considering.
With the exception of the Cabrera trade, these.are trades of quantity. If trading Megill, we need to get the best player in the deal by adding more to our side. If teams balk att that, simply keep him.
The answer in my opinion would be to add to Megill and get an arm like Tong back. What we need to add to a controllable closer with cost control to land Tong would be the big question.
I like your plan a lot. A controllable Frelick or better outfielder and Kim are precisely all our team needs and you are right that we can trade MLB talent for the right prospect too.
I just don’t think the Burnes and Peralta situations for what we are seeking are quite the same . Murph wanted Oliver Dunn as his 3B before 2 months in moving onto Joey: Maybe we really thought Hall was a 2-3 idk. But we knew we’d be a playoff team even trading Burnes (our brass i believe felt). This time, it’s a cheaper contract and a team closer to the WS is likely Arnold’s thought. We will trade him, but we will need to feel we won the trade more than Arnold felt he won the Burnes trade or we just run it back.
Dude, you were so offended when whatever his name was from here rode your opinions. Why do you like to be such a troll. It doesn’t affect but I do like responding. Whatever but you are so played out and I don’t have the time to care about responding to your proposals of deals (if you ever even have any).
Astros I don’t know much about but they stuck out to me as a team that would offer a higher package for Freddy than almost any other mlb team. I’d be interested in hearing what a Peralta to Astros deal might look like from posters that know at least a little about their system. Secondly, Burnes I could see pounding the table for his buddy to be traded to Arizona. Lawler and the comp pick would at least make me think about whether we could find a package that is enough for giving up Freddy’s cheap final year here.
“Gave up on” to you must mean what “dealt as one of two main pieces for one of the top five pitchers in baseball” means to me. Six to one half a dozen to another I guess. Just semantics.
Ok then. I’ll move myself along on Hall and maintain the premise of my point that we should add pieces to Peralta and get better talent back than simply trading Peralta for 3 pieces .
Yes, especially to the team that led him to star prospect levels and with which he ended as a strong reliever on a good playoff team. Absolutely no doubt Baltimore values him to the point where it would increase a theoretical package.
So I’d like to note that we should be adding players to a Peralta trade for better players. Like in this Orioles instance, offer DL Hall back to them with Peralta for a greater package.
Good call, sir. If if if we trade Freddy, we should be “winning” the trade somewhat convincingly from a team needing the top starter this year (maybe resigning him ) and ok with the essentially late round comp pick if not.
I think it’s more likely Coby Mayo ends up an average 3B than Beavers an average CF, so I’d think we’d want him over Beavers. Also Basallo makes a lot of sense if we believe our catching lab can help him. Just don’t see Beaves as a centerpiece being enough for our brass to decide to deal Freddy. You gotta think bigger because we will just keep him as our #1 and take the Comp A pick without more of a headliner coming our way.
So many business analyst experts on a sports website. I am sure one of the ten chiming in is on to something. We will add a guy or two (Hoskins/Quintana) or (Montas/Samchez/Jarvis) so don’t look for a cut in payroll.
I would be making the trade with the knowledge that Quero is more or less ready to take over in a similar fashion to Drake Baldwin for Sean Murphy. I need to have that confidence and that’s Arnold’s call, not yours or mine.
What I am saying is a hypothetical trade of say Contreras for Neto (just throwing out a name) might be better for the team with Heim/Quero handing the catching that running back the same lineup as last years great performing team.
I think Lloyd has a really good list. That is what I was hoping a poster would do. Kudos buddy. Yeah we might to attach a Wichowski (hopefully less) to Black but this is something that should be done. Black for a Mauricio or Jung with us adding a minor league pitcher as low on the totem pole as we can do.
