Congrats on the callup, Carlos! With Salome and Lucroy in the system, I don't know what the future holds for him in the organization, but hopefully he makes the most of his opportunity.

We really don't know when a super-two cutoff date would occur, because it's relative to other players. But it's somewhat safe to say that if a player is brought up in mid-June, they probably won't be a super-two player. The other cutoff is free agency eligibility, and I'm pretty sure it takes complete seasons to rack that up, so I don't think we'd lose a year of service from any of our current minor leaguers if they were brought up now.

I like Macha's attitude the whole beanball war. TLR played Yost for a chump last year, suckering him into a beanball. Macha's attitude is basically "thank you for the free baserunner". I know players might feel "unprotected", but winning is better than justice.

A self-hosted solution, with the traffic we have, would require a very hefty server. It would also put ME on the hook for anything that goes wrong with the forums. While I'm not a huge Yuku fan, the price differential would be close to a wash anyway, not to mention that exporting data into a new forum would be either quite an effort or not possible. I'm also not a big fan of open-source forum products, as the risk of them getting hacked isn't something I feel like worrying about.

I just feel bad for them. 16 years of losing baseball is just completely unacceptable as a franchise. The Pittsburgh metro area has a population of 2.35M, while Milwaukee's is 1.5M (with the Cubs in close vicinity). It seems like the people in question here are just a bunch of angry, bitter fans who are tired of losing. They should have hired Jack Z to be their GM when they had the chance.

I guess you have to have something to rally around as fans when your team gets utterly owned by another team, and you haven't had a winning season in 16 years. The whole thing's ridiculous. I'm sure if Braun was on their team and he was deliberately thrown at, they'd be upset as well. And, probably, many Brewers fans would react the way they're reacting. I'm just glad that Brewerfan.net has better fans than that.

Looks like the well has finally run dry on the contributions we received last summer. While the costs of the "main site" are still under control, we need to feed Yuku so that the ads don't show up in posts. You'll notice that there's a "Contribute Now!" link at the top of the forum. We're not asking for much during this mini-drive.... If you enjoy Brewerfan.net on a regular basis, it would be fantastic if you could throw $5 or $10 in the community chest.

Does it display just text, or images as well? Some of the PDFs I'm going to want to read have images embedded in them.

Hey all, Looking down the road to buy myself a birthday present, and I've really been interested in eBook readers. I'd like to get into reading for fun, and I read a lot of programming books (and have several as PDFs). The idea of having a bunch of dust-collectors around my bedroom and office is a pretty big turnoff, and I see that eBook readers are getting more popular, and somewhat more affordable. I'm interested in using one while on the exercise machines at the gym, and waiting around for doctors appointments (which has unfortunately become a large part of my/the wife's life). Does anyone have an eBook reader or has used one? I don't necessarily need a top-of-the-line one, but I need to be able to load PDFs on it. Thanks in advance, Brian

As you can tell from other posts, we're going through the exercise of re-vamping the site (something that's long overdue). One of the things we've been discussing internally is how abysmal our home page has been, as far as content goes. Our staff is doing as well as they can with the time they can afford, but we need to do more. I've toyed around with the idea of including news feeds from other sites on the home page, and that's something I'll probably pursue. With that said, I'd much rather have blogging that's exclusive to Brewerfan.net. What I'm hoping to do is give any user here the ability to host a blog at brewerfan.net, and then there would be a system in place (sort of like a Digg system) to determine which blog posts should show up on the home page. Are there people out there who would be interested in this sort of thing?
