  1. I use ligamusic.com, mp3skyline.com, and one other site that I forget the name of. I would consider it in the same way I'd consider someone getting prescriptions from Canada. You're circumventing U.S. laws to get something cheaper at the cost of the developer of the product not getting the cut they're normally going to get. In the case of the russian music sites, I'd be surprised if any money goes back to the artist, so depending on how I feel about giving back to the artist on a case by case basis, I might buy music from a reputable source. The one thing the russian music sites give me that I really can't find anywhere else is a place to buy mp3's of things that were only released on vinyl. Buying vinyl is expensive, and then ripping it to an mp3 is labor-intensive.
  2. The Brewers are all in for 2011. If they can't come to terms with an extension for Weeks, they'll try again after the season or let him walk for picks. They have no comparable lead-off option, and the middle of the infield would look pretty wretched. The only thing I could see changing that would be a deal for Michael Young, but unless injuries take a chunk out of Rickie's playing time, that would be a downgrade.

  4. The only way I see the Brewers landing Reyes is if he's willing to take a 1-year deal for a lot of cash. The Brewers just aren't going to be able to give out multi-year big money when there's a bidding war. Honestly, Reyes is the one guy of the batch of people they're losing that the Mets will try to keep.
  5. Career 3.88 ERA and 1.35 WHIP? 240 Wins and 2251 K's. Very solid career, but he isn't hitting any of the magic numbers he needs to get in. I was pretty surprised that he only made the all-star game 3 times out of 16 major league seasons. Throw in the PED issue, and it's a definite no from me. I think most voters probably will feel the same way.
  6. So..... anyone else get snow?
  7. Maybe we should just get our own bar http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Anyways, I'm not adamantly opposed to having a co-sponsored team. It's not like we can't take it back if we have a full squad any given following season.

  9. I truly apologize for all of the problems recently. I believe I have a beat on what's causing the problem. I'll be working on it and will post an update when I've resolved it.
  10. Amen to that! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I'll be guesting on the Brewers roundtable discussion tonight at 5pm tonight. Tune in and hear me talk about OPS, Win Shares, and Russell Branyan.
  12. We exceeded our goal by $24! I'd like to personally thank everyone who donated to this cause. Hopefully this will keep us rolling for an entire year of fan forum usage. Thanks again!

  16. We have and are exploring alternatives to fan forum software, but one of the things that have always been a deterrent in my mind are open source message boards getting hacked frequently. That's pretty much my worst-case scenario. The other thing that even with all of Yuku's faults, they generally scale pretty well. It's been a while and infrequent when brewerfan's been dog-slow. Most hosting solutions give you a pretty minimal amount of CPU and RAM, but Yuku will scale up accordingly. There are some "cloud" solutions out there now that let you host sites and scale up and down the number of servers and resources you can use (and some can do it dynamically), but I'm not comfortable enough with hosting message boards on those solutions quite yet to make the plunge. We are looking into other options though, because I do realize that Yuku costs about $67 a month, and I think we can maybe bring that down by $20 a month or so perhaps.

  18. Hey all, It's been a little over a year since we had our last Fan Forum fundraiser. We're fortunate enough to have had the donations power the message board for just over one year now, but we're just about out of page views. I've activated the "Want to contribute? - Brewerfan.net Fundraiser" link on the main forum page. Anyone can contribute there using PayPal. There are several levels of payments (6, 18, 30, and 54 dollars) which as a result give us a certain number of page views. You can also write in a separate amount. So, if you feel like Brewerfan's Fan Forum is a valuable resource for you, please think about supporting it with a contribution. Last year we had 32 donors contributing a total of $800, so that's the amount I'm shooting for this year since it worked well last year. Thanks for your support! Total so far: $824 of $800

  20. Started a new assignment downtown at JCI and was wondering if any other BFdotnetters were working at the same place...
  21. I hid a few posts in this thread because they were pretty derogatory. If there's a legitimate issue with as poster that would negatively affect members of this site, that's fine. But if it's just a case of being condescending or being sarcastic and adding no value to the listing, that's not wanted here. Thanks for your cooperation.
  22. My heart is pulling for the A's, but some of the inexperience on the team makes me think they might fall apart. Plus, they have the only pitcher in the league who could potentially contract feline leukemia or the Melissa virus.
  23. I'd like to take crewcrazy again this year for his review of Out of the Park 11. Brewerfan.net is fortunate enough to receive an advance copy for review each year, and while that's a nice reward by itself, playing the game comprehensively and writing up a review still takes a fair bit of time:
  24. Fixed again automagically, for those who tried to view it over the past 24 hrs.
  25. I second zamzar.com ... It's the swiss-army knife of online file conversion. ...which I guess seems like a weird comparison since it's very specialized and not generally as useful as a swiss-army knife, but I digress.
