Not sure if anyone's suggested this... but what if the Brewers were going after Smoltz? Would make sense as to why we've apparently got a waiting game going on.

Hardy's cheaper and could be re-flipped at the deadline or in the offseason (when teams are rebuilding their rosters). However, I do agree that it seems less likely than other trade scenarios regarding SD.

At this point, I'm not sure. It would be interesting to see if anyone's slated to come off the DL in the very near future (either an outbound prospect or an inbound player), as maybe it's health that's holding someone up.

You would think that, by now, the Brewers are aware of this thread. The fact that Melvin hasn't "internet geeked" us yet is a positive sign, I would suppose.

Rickie would have to be activated from the DL within 6-months of being traded, I think (you can't trade an injured player, but you can include him as a PTBNL, which must be named within 6 months).

There's a difference between us saying that Jemile Weeks was signed (which was what Jemile Weeks's college coach told Jim Powell), and us saying that we're hearing credible rumors that Melvin's going hard after a starting pitcher and a pending deal's in place. With this, I've always maintained a rumor status.

Bedard & Parra are both scheduled to pitch Saturday, and Lee's scheduled to pitch Sunday. You would have to think that Jack Z would jump at the chance to trade for the guy who pursued big-time as a draft & follow player, assuming the package was sweetened with some other young talent.
