  1. For whatever reason, Harang's 16 wins and 216 K's from last year didn't catch people's attention. That is an excellent pitcher, getting it done in an extreme hitter's park.
  2. Thanks for mentioning those two books, I had already planned to read both. That era has always held my interest, when I see the enormous money and luxury in today's game, I'm fascinated by the stories of grandfathers and great-grandfathers who dealt with such a completely different world. When we discuss arbitration, signing bonuses and free agency, imagine a world where a $3,000 World Series share had a real impact on a player's life.
  3. Looking at next year's roster, there are three positions I could picture the Brewers trading to upgrade - catcher, left field and closer. I do think one of Cappy, Bush and Vargas will be moved, two of them will be kept around, as this regime is high on maintaining depth, for good reason. I have no idea what players will be made available in trades, but I think the Brewers would be willing to deal any one of the three arms, depending on what is out there. My guess is, Bush stays, it's Cappy if the offer is good enough, or it's Vargas if the player coming back is a short-term answer.
  4. Yep, I'll take four wins for sure. If the Crew can start winning half of their road games, it's party time!
  5. I wonder what either side would say to Parra or Inman for Clement?
  6. I know they need power, but why in the world would the Pirates move Snell?
  7. Why can't both sides of the family go together? There's no use fighting over an issue like this, the point is, the kids get a trip to Disney, and their grandparents get to share it with them. Do the families get along well? If they do, why not just schedule it for a time when everyone can be there? What's wrong with four grandparents at once? Your kids would own the place.
  8. That is very strange. I finished up, emailed the article to Brian, then immediately read the news about Coolbaugh. As rare as this stuff is, that's a little freaky. I hope you enjoy the article. -Todd
  9. OK, this stuff almost never happens, and I just finished writing an article on a very similar topic. I'm a little freaked out by this news right now. How terrible.
  10. The Reds will either play major spoilers, or they'll get steamrolled into one horrible record. How'd you like to be in last place, and facing the Cubs and Brewers 25 times in the final 65 games?
  11. More and more schools are offering programs online. I know UW-Platteville has a couple of majors that can be done 100% online now. I'd check out what some of the "traditional schools" offer online.
  12. Hammy, you're excused. Radman and mikevan are the coolest! Anyone else? C'mon, high socks takes a lot less effort than peeing your pants.
  13. I knew they had 13 with the Reds, but I hadn't done that math...wow. Don't the Cubs have almost the same number with the Reds?
  14. Weeks' first hit was a soft fly to right that dumped over the infielders, I didn't see the second one.
  15. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa319/toddecopp/Leiter.jpg "Leiter pitches Mets past Reds in playoff"
  16. Next up, the Reds.... http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa319/toddecopp/schott.jpg
  17. Does anyone know the severity of Pence's injury? I think an injury is the only thing that can stop Braun either way, but I'd like to know what's up with Hunter.
  18. I could picture Byrnes moving, his contract is up, if they don't think they can get him signed it's no different than Carlos Lee one year ago. I would bet Byrnes would at least test the free agent market, he'll be coming off his best year.
  19. The Cubs are right back where they were three games ago. No one would have picked SF to take two, no one would have picked AZ to take two...it's a long ride.
  20. If the Crew had gotten one more win, this would have been a great homestand, as it is, you just can't get mad at a team for winning 60% of its games. Hold on tight, eight road games coming in a big hurry!
  21. Maybe you've already pledged to pee your pants later in the year, but will you wear high socks tomorrow? Who's in?
  22. I think Kuiper's lying, he grew up here.
  23. Nice bouncback for Villy, and forget about days off with so many games this week. If the starters all go 5-6 innings this week, those guys in the pen had better be eating right.
  24. Oh man, that just hurts....somebody go airlift the Rays' season ticket holders out of that place.
  25. That injury Hanley had today, isn't that the same injury Vlad had a couple of years ago?
