  1. The way I see Boston is this... They can afford to move one of those arms, I can't imagine them moving two, but they could move one of those arms, if they think the need they're filling justifies the cost. Since the Sox are being linked to Peavy and Lee, they must have decided they have the need. I know Lohse has never had the peak those guys had, but I also know Peavy has been hurt a lot, and Lee's contract from this point forward, is terrible. Boston is hedging on a top prospect, plus absorbing all of the money in the deal, I don't know how they value Lohse, but if they like him enough, we may be able to pull their choice of those four pitchers for Lohse, or, if there's a guy we like above the others, we could put some money out there to get the one we want. Right now, it doesn't sound like anything's happening with Lohse anyway, but this is the perfect team to match up with. They have an abundance, right where Milwaukee needs them to have one.
  2. For Texas, they're absolutely stacked in the middle infield. The Rangers already have Kinsler, Andrus and Profar, with Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor coming behind them. If I'm them, I'm trying to use Sardinas or Odor in a deal, that's their depth.
  3. Jon Morosi Tweets that Boston is still engaged in talks for Jake Peavy and Cliff Lee. Lee is still owed 70 million dollars, and will be 35 in a month. Peavy just got off the DL, and the White Sox are asking for Xander Bogaerts, who is one of the very best prospects anywhere right now. The Brewers should be all over Boston, (who knows, maybe they are, but no reports of it at least), with Kyle Lohse. Jimmy Nelson is a fine prospect, I wish the Brewers had ten more like him, but the point is, Jonathan Mayo at MLB.com has Nelson rated as the #96 overall prospect, and Milwaukee's best prospect. Boston has FOUR pitchers in their system who are currently ranked higher than our number one overall prospect. Four PITCHERS, better than any prospect we currently have. That is a team that needs Lohse, that can afford his contract, and that can afford to deal exactly what the Brewers should be trying to add. You're killing me Smalls...
  4. When I first started following the Brewers, George Scott was the best player the team had. The first season I have good memory of was 1975, during which, Scott led the AL in RBIs, and tied for the league lead in home runs. He was also unique because he wore his batting helmet in the field, in those days, the road caps had a gold front, but the team wore blue batting helmets, George wore a helmet with a gold front in the field during road games. When Scott was traded back to Boston, he said some unpleasant things about Milwaukee, and he was booed HEAVILY when the Red Sox played here. He did a great job while he was here, and then he brought Cecil Cooper here via trade. Together with Don Money, George Scott was the solid veteran on a new franchise filled with young kids and wannabes, he has a significant place in Brewers history.
  5. Either the Brewers are being extremely secretive, or they aren't being aggressive at all. Right now, I'd bet they deal Gonzalez in your basic, "somewhere, for something" deal, but I don't hear signs of anything else.
  6. I decided to put this here, from Peter Gammons... Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo 2m A's not in on Peavy price(Gray, Russell & take on bearly $20M), ditto Boston, ditto Atlanta. Time running down In translation...Chicago asked the A's for their best overall prospect, their best pitching prospect, and full absorption of the money left on Peavy's deal.
  7. Some stuff on the Brewers in here... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/22924361/padres-gregerson-brewers-axford-drawing-interest-on-bullpen-market
  8. I believe Houston will take Carlos Rodon with the first pick next year, I'm not even considering him for the Brewers at this point.
  9. Braun suspended, Pujols injured and likely done for the season, Kemp perpetually injured, Crawford too, Soriano FINALLY ditched by the Cubs, A-Rod a complete disaster at this point... Maybe this was a bad idea?
  10. Ted Simmons would easily top this list, but he got here late in his career, and wound up moving to DH. Darrell Porter would easily top this list, but he got involved with drugs, fell flat on his face, (literally once, at a game I attended), and wound up being traded to Kansas City. It's true, Lucroy is doing a great job, and he has a chance to become the best catcher the team has ever had.
  11. Exactly, Danzig, Billy traded for guys like Johnny Damon and Ray Durham, partly to use the system of the time, which brought him draft picks when they left. I don't think I can remember him just plain dealing youth for vets, with no future picks in the mix. I wonder if he'll prefer to deal with teams who can send him Competitive Balance picks, or maybe International Signing money.
  12. If you're not familiar with Prospect Watch, that's the prospect ranking tool of MLB.com, compiled by Jonathan Mayo. Jonathan has updated his Top 100, (Jimmy Nelson made it), and he's updated the Top 20 for each team. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2013/
  13. The A's jumped in on Garza, and they're scouting pretty much every available starter right now. I think they believe they're going to lose Colon to a suspension. For once, Oakland is likely to trade some young guys for a more pricey veteran.
  14. Lohse's free agency was hurt by the draft pick thing, but in the end, there were other teams who were ready to sign him - for 2 years. I really think it's that third year on the deal that's stopping teams, so I wish the Brewers would just pay that year in a trade, and get the prospects they should get for Lohse. It seems as though I like Lohse more than most Brewer fans, but even I would be more excited about watching the next core of the team develop next year than I would be to watch Lohse pitch here. If you want to "give back", give new excitement...give us as close as you can give us to '05-'07, when good young talent was coming.
  15. PEM, that's exactly the way its been going. If I were the Brewers, I'd keep the price right where it is, and offer to pay some of the remaining contract. The point is to get the most talent back as possible, so don't drop that side, make his contract easier for the other team. The Brewers have been acting like they're willing to wait until winter on this, which is fine, but it would be more fun for all of us if they didn't.
  16. Atlanta had already been looking for a reliever when they lost Tim Hudson. Now, they probably need to add a starter and a reliever, in a hurry. Atlanta's farm system is thinner right now than we're used to seeing it, their system was ranked one spot ahead of Milwaukee's by "Baseball America" prior to the season. Just like the Brewers' situation with Peralta, the Braves' best prospect, Julio Teheran, graduated to the big leagues, and is helping the big club. Click the link to get an idea who their better prospects are, and tell me what deal the Brewers and Braves will make.... http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2013/
  17. Hunter Morris ‏@HunterMorris15 2m 5 for 5 this year on roommates getting to the big leagues... Now accepting applications and bribes
  18. Robert Wooten...welcome to the major leagues!

  20. This, from Ken Rosenthal... Two previously available starting pitchers — Milwaukee Brewers righties Yovani Gallardo and Kyle Lohse — now figure to stay put. Both could have greater trade value in the offseason, when different dynamics will be in play. At that point, Gallardo will have two years and $24.25 million left on his contract, Lohse two years and $22 million. Both of their average salaries will be lower than the amount of the qualifying offer, which is likely to be more than $14 million. And both will be more affordable than free agents like Santana, who likely will seek three-year deals at bigger numbers. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/tim-hudson-broken-ankle-surgery-atlanta-braves-must-scramble-for-starter-ervin-santana-jake-peavy-bud-norris-072413
  21. Honestly, why should the Brewers' asking price be any lower than what the Cubs just got for Matt Garza, or what the Brewers got last year for Greinke? Garza is not a better pitcher than Kyle Lohse, he is not more durable than Kyle Lohse, and he is a free agent in two months. Greinke had a phenomenal year for Kansas City, but otherwise, he's been really good, not amazing, and he was a free agent after 13 starts for the Angels. I do think the Brewers should probably trade Lohse right now, because he's red hot, he's healthy, and teams need him, but the deal should be, a centerpiece prospect, plus two. Look at the Greinke deal, it was one guy who should make it, and two guys who aren't as certain, but have a pretty good shot...a proven pitcher, who's on a roll, is worth that. Yes, he's 34, and yes, he'll be paid for two more years...but don't tell me someone wouldn't sign him this winter for exactly what he's owed over the next two seasons, I'll just point out Ryan Dempster and move on. I think the best thing for the franchise right now would be to trade him for guys who will be here longer than he will be, because it just has to happen. Even so, if they can't get the type of deal they should get for him, I'd keep him, and make him available over the winter.
  22. In his latest comments on both guys, Doug Melvin sounded that way too, simply saying, "Not motivated", when asked if he was looking to trade either guy. I think the team simply isn't getting offers they like for Gallardo, and for whatever reason, they just don't seem like they want to move Lohse right now, barring a huge offer to get him. I think if this was about moving Lohse for a solid return, they could do it in ten minutes.
  23. According to Jayson Stark, teams have asked about Lohse, but the price was very high. He didn't name the teams, but someone told him the Brewers were trying to get a lopsided deal. If the team decides now is the time, I have no doubt, there are teams that would trade for Lohse.
  24. Boston is a fantastic match if the Brewers decide to move Lohse, in fact, I don't think this could be drawn up much better. 1. Boston has pitching depth in their system right now. 2. The Brewers want the #17 overall pick (I think that's the right number) they surrendered to be valued into a trade. 3. Matt Barnes was taken 19th overall in 2011. Boston can afford to move Barnes, they've got the arms to spare him, they can also afford to take on Lohse, and Barnes fits very well into what the Brewers need. He's a young arm, with a very real shot at being a #2 starter in the big leagues. Barnes was the red hot name in Boston's system a year ago, but he has slipped some since then, if scouts think it's nothing physical, he's exactly the guy Milwaukee should want in a Lohse trade.
  25. Kyle Lohse, last ten starts, 5-1, 2.3 ERA, 0.84 WHIP. Not bad for an overpaid, aging mirage.
