  1. I would put Jungmann ahead of the new guys too. I think the Brewers have two outstanding young players coming in, and I love the quality depth that's starting to develop in the system. I'm hopint Coulter and Roache both go on a tear, to really heat up debate over those top spots in the organization.
  2. Tucker Neuhaus en route to Milwaukee, flies to AZ Friday. Devin Williams has been in Milwaukee the last couple of days...if you think you can recognize them, they may be out seeing the city a bit tonight.
  3. Tyler hadn't pitched in a game in a month, so his coach used him out of the pen, and may do so one more time. 2 1/3, 2 Ks, no runners He says the coaching staff calls him "Eppy Calvin."
  4. Devin Williams landed in Milwaukee yesterday, I'm not sure when the team will have an announcement.
  5. Zack's in the middle of another mess tonight, this time with the DBacks.
  6. The process is sloppy and inefficient...so change it. http://www.baseballintheblood.com/
  7. Per Twitter, Ky Parrott still on the fence.
  8. Signings happening fast... viewtopic.php?f=69&t=30002&p=850009#p850009
  9. Very cool. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130610&content_id=50199350&vkey=news_stl&c_id=stl&tcid=tw_article_50199350
  10. No, DHonks, because he has one year of college left on a free ride. I got him in touch with a Seattle scout I know last night, they had a great conversation. Basically, the advice he's getting is, "You should have been drafted, but this happens, just keep doing your work and you'll be fine." One positive that's come from this already, some scouts who have never seen him will be coming out to watch him this summer, and everyone seems to be pulling for him. As he's given more advice through this process, I'll share it here.
  11. Tyler's pitching for this team this summer, their season started today, he hasn't pitched yet. http://www.calripkenleague.org/view/calripkenleague/teams-55/southern-maryland-nationals
  12. He's reading this thread, and the old one right now, I never told him about it until tonight.
  13. The subject of my "Great Story Trying to Happen" thread was... Tyler Badamo, of Dowling College. I've known Tyler since he was two, his dad was one of my best friends - Matt died in March of 2010. The kid can pitch...92 MPH fastball, curve is his best pitch, throws the change for strikes in all counts, added a slider prior to the 2013 season. He's got one season left at Dowling, here's some stuff you should know... http://www.dowlingathletics.com/news/2013/5/16/BB_0516132041.aspx?path=baseball http://www.dowlingathletics.com/news/2013/5/15/BB_0515132448.aspx?path=baseball http://www.steeplecats.com/News/-Cats-roll-to-6-0-opening-day-win-over-Sanford.aspx http://www.steeplecats.com/News/North-Adams-SteepleCats-Weekend-College-Baseball-R.aspx
  14. Congrats to Crew2323, who sent me a PM today, correctly guessing the subject of this thread.
  15. Hunter homered twice last night, and he has one today too...that's 13 on the season.
  16. That was just awesome, and that's what Scooter is going to have to do to succeed. Teams will pull the outfielders in and throw strikes, "I triple-dog dare ya!" That time, Scooter found the gap, which gave him all day to run while the outfielders chased the ball down. That has to happen, if he can't "keep 'em honest" the singles will get a lot harder to come by.
  17. I have no doubt this will work out for the young man. There were 8-10 teams talking to him, this was not a kid who was hoping the one scout he met could make something happen. He's not happy, of course, but he's fine, he knows this is about the system, much more than about him. Barring an arm injury, or something weird like that, I'm sure he'll be picked next time around, and he'll get his shot. He's done a great job in college, he's had three strong seasons, and he's been the best pitcher in his conference each of the last two years. He played in a summer league last year, setting a league K record in his first start, and he'll be playing this summer too. Assuming health, for the 2014 draft, he'll be a kid with a 92 MPH fastball, three additional pitches, sound mechanics and no history of arm issues, who has just used up his college eligibility...that kid, gets picked.
  18. The Helena bullpen should have crazy depth.
  19. 3and2, I don't know. It's obvious, the teams are still trying to figure out how to live in this new world. In the first few rounds, the teams are taking the best talent, but then, a few rounds in, you see teams taking guys who will sign, including a lot of college seniors, who have no leverage. If you have a year of eligibility left, you have to be awesome now to get drafted, you can't just be a guy the scouts like. It's all about the money, if the teams think it's worth writing a big check, they'll take you now, but for most guys now, the teams are content to just wait 'til next year. You would think the teams would stick to their draft board and keep taking the guys who will help them the most, but it just doesn't feel that way to me. It feels like teams are willing to pay 3-4 guys, and then play it safe. Look at the NBA and the NFL, a player declares himself eligible, and that's the year he is drafted. In baseball, they draft high school guys, JUCO guys, college juniors, and college seniors, and the teams know going in - they won't sign anywhere near 40 players, even though they go through the process of drafting that many. I think this makes the process very sloppy and inefficient.
  20. When Manning first came up, the Indians thought they had a Paul Molitor on their hands. He was a great defender in center field, but he was also one of the fastest runners in the league. In his first two seasons, Manning hit .285, and .292, but then he had a back injury, and he just never hit well again. Right before the teams made the deal, Manning was hot, he had something like an 18-20 game hitting streak, and Gorman was doing nothing, (a torn rotator cuff was discovered later). The Indians hoped Gorman would get hot, while the Brewers hoped Manning would stay hot...neither got their wish.
  21. He wasn't picked today, which isn't a big deal in the long run, but he's not happy about it. I'm sure that stands to reason. I'll do a new thread, and introduce him, with some links to his stats, etc.
  22. What's happened is, several teams like him enough to draft him, but he's not a lefty, and he's D-2, so it gets to be a tough sell to get the team to buy out his last year of college. They want him, at their price, which means they want to take him next year. He could still go today, but that's the way this broke. Teams don't take the best player available, after the first few rounds, all sorts of things sway the decision makers. I had no idea things were like they are before I watched this happen. If he gets picked, I'll post it here, if he does not, I'll wait a few days, and then start a new thread for him, giving his name, school, etc.
  23. You can absolutely see the impact of the new CBA here. When the Brewers signed Lohse, a lot of people lamented the loss of the first round pick...phooey, keep the pick...the impact is the loss of the dollars to sign that pick. The Brewers' draft pool has to be responsible for some of the decisions they've made in this draft. I don't agree with those who think the Brewers are doing a horrible job, they took some guys I really like, but overall, there is no question the teams are leaving some talent out there because of the dollars. The Reds took a 24-year-old today...in round nine. Pick 285, Chad Jones, LHP, No School, DOB, 10/5/88. Upon Further Review...Jones was a Brewers pick in 2010, who was headed toward a football career, before breaking his leg and ankle in a car accident. http://mlb.mlb.com//news/article.jsp?ymd=20130607&content_id=49919394&notebook_id=49986154&vkey=notebook_stl&c_id=stl
  24. Don't worry too much about guys not having a report written up, that doesn't mean they weren't heavily scouted. For all of the efforts to create, "rhyme and reason" in the MLB Draft, I have seen first hand...it does not exist.
  25. There is no question signability is a major concern for the teams. Trust me, teams aren't just taking the next best player on their list...which is ridiculous.
