  1. No Hernan tonight; I'm guessing he gets a promotion very soon, as Crabbe has been nothing but disappointing in his second full season at AA. Hernan has been on a tear, too, of late. Will they split Alcides and Hernan, though? Jeffress' line was definitely impressive. Brewer's 11th error is not, however. Not much Lenny LeClerq in the last few days, too. He was said to have the tools on draft day, but when will he get the chance to move out of the desert? At least he's shown improvement in his three years in the AZL... And it looks like we finally learn EDR's true identity... Patrick, were there any comments on what pitches Sheets was throwing or velocity? Thanks in advance.
  2. Welcome back, Fire Lane! (I, unfortunately, cannot find the corresponding AP photo. A little help?)
  3. Thanks, Plow; that's exactly the kind of insight I was hoping to read. Regarding Jeffress: great outing for him, too, and while it was lost in the Sheets focus here, you can bet that it wasn't lost to those at the game.
  4. Yo!'s gb:fb ration was high tonight (2:10). Thanks to Jeff Sackman, I see he was pretty much 2:1 at A+. Any guesses for the change (for this one start, at least)? In general, does it mean a pitcher is just high in the zone with the fastball? Hanging his off speed? Or, is it more advanced hitters anticipating when the fastball is coming? I know he walked a lot in his last AA outing. Maybe an Alabaman could help us out on a report. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Is there a general theory for a progression of gb:fb towards more flyballs as pitchers move up the latter. Don't get me wrong, I love Yo! and he continues to be uncannily phenomenal. I'm just curious about this. I'm also a big Michael Brantley fan, but I have to admit that I only noticed yesterday his average was up over .280--now it's at .291. Good to see he's likely made some adjustments over the season. Also, Bad Chad not so bad in Music City... Dare I say Rivera-esque?
  5. My guess is that they're working on some things with him (better feel for a third pitch, mechanics?). Otherwise, I'd think he could get through AZL lineups pretty efficiently by just throwing gas. As I know you remember, Rogers and Gallardo both spent their first years there. Inman started and got bumped to Helena pretty quickly. Looking at Rogers v. Inman, you'd assume that they tend to keep HS pitchers there who need work on the two abovementioned aspects and move up the other. Gallardo makes that not so cut-and-dry, as he was someone we were always told had that advanced feel for pitching, good mechanics, and more than two pitches working for him, IIRC.
  6. In what appears to be the first of the two corresponding moves to the above, 23 year old 2006 39th Round OF out of Oklahoma Chuckie Caufield now hacks for Helena, according to the MiLB box score. He previously was on the AZL Brewers roster.

  8. Third straight game that Salome hasn't played in (thus far). Promotion? Leave? And a strong outing for Inman, who still must be on a strict pitch count. Also, Katin seems to be missing his former 'Cane mate, as he's making a statement that he needs a bigger challenge. And the real Hurricane is up over .300, too.
  9. Interesting that Hendrickson's first clue was that the Crew wouldn't trade Billy, versus the Crew wouldn't trade Lil' Ben without telling him about it before it hit the media. Of course, the above story could have been subject to some quote editing, but, still, thought-provoking.
  10. Since we're all staring at small sample size stats at Huntsville http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif , it's good to see Braun hit his first AA homerun. Here's hoping for, say, 11 more by the end of the season. Doesn't Yo! throw a knuckle curve, too; or am I simply confusing the comps with Mussina with them having a similar repertoire?
  11. Pure speculation, but maybe it was a pitch count issue, as Yo! threw at the all-star game on Saturday. Though, he would have been scheduled for a bullpen session, I'm guessing, at about the same interval. And he did get four days rest after an inning of work. And three walks in 4.2 is high for him, if not terrible in general. Hopefully, Pogo will have good news. It can't arrive soon enough... Dana is tossing a good one, but is down 1-0.
  12. It's the Latin wunderkind Roque Mercedes going for Helena tonight. Depending on the H-Brew jerseys, I bet those de la Cruz boys never thought they'd get a longer name on their backs... Gamel 1-3 with a 2B, Cain with an RBI on a ground out. No Salome yet. Brevard gettting no hit (reverse mojo?). No offense to Steve Hammond, but looks like starting Yo! or Rogers, considering how lights out they've been, might have been the only to stay even in this one. Breaking news: Huntsville has scored. Twice. In the first. Hopefully, they didn't use all the second half offense in one game... Edit: Mass, you edited my edit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif no-no broken, but BC down to their last three outs
  13. Great article, colby. I think the D-Backs had the best draft, as they always seemed to take the guy I wanted the Brewers to draft a few slots in front of us, especially Brett Anderson. Even more impressive is your iron-willed refusal to inflate the Brewers on a national stage. Here's to your integrity and hard work.
  14. Rogers throwing 97 and working ahead very often (5 of 6?). A little wild (and agitated) in the third: 2 out walk, stolen base, error on throw--but strikes out the batter looking on a 3-2 pitch to strand him at third. 3IP 1BB 4K 4GB:1FB (and a line drive)
  15. - ahem - Scott Podsednik, 2005 World Champions.* *This is not advocacy for a Gwynn-Krynzel-Hart ticket in '08
  16. Interesting on the Salome rumor. While his promotion is much less likely to set off a chain reaction of movments than pitchers getting bumped, it at least shows that Team Canada is willing to move some guys agressively (see Charlie Fermaint starting the season in Brevard). Now that I think about it, I could see players being bumped to Huntsville and Brevard and maybe an advanced player or two from the draft starting in WV, but what has anyone still on the Stars' roster done to warrant a move to Nashville? Regardless, it's exciting to think about some impact prospects getting a step closer to Miller Park, even if they are a few years off. Congrats to Angel, especially is the rumor is true. Sorry if this is better placed in the promotions thread
  17. "..." (whistle) Hendrickson isn't having a terrible game, I'd check that one out instead of the Brevard County game.
  18. Jeesh... Yo!, apparently not to be outdone by Mark Rogers, just fanned the side in the first. 12.81 K/9 be darned!
  19. Looks like he hit the wall in this one. 8 IP has to be a personal best for him. His last two starts he has something like a 19:5 GB:FB. Very nice http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  20. My hunch is that they want to see how effective Dennis is out of the pen, as that is likely his best chance to get a spot on the 25-man. The biggest clue will be how long he pitches after Helling. He's been walking a lot of batters this year. It'll be interesting to see if that changes. Since everyone else in AA and AAA, including the garbage man, has seemingly got a call, I don't know what else Sarfate can do to get a chance. I'd like to see him got a shot, especially with some of the guys we've thrown against the wall.
  21. Since this seems to be the best thread for talking about picks we want to see signed, I'd agree with the two brewmann listed. Anundsen was our fourth, so you have to assume he will sign and we know it, or we wouldn't have risked that high of a pick. If we can sign 2 of Anderson (12), Seidel (16), Whiteside (15), Haydel (19), and Clark (18 ) , in respective order of interest for me, I would consider that very successful. It sounds like Tullo (17) will likely be a DFE as he has committed to a JC, so excluding him from my wish list. Also, it appears Whiteside has not committed, and one scout on PG Cross-Checker thought Haydel would be better served going pro instead of red-shirting at LSU. Haydel's speed is quite exciting. edit: emoto-fix
  22. Mehdi Djebbar: The New Khalid Ballouli
  23. A nice five innings from Manny Parra so far. Will we see him in Huntsville after the break? Was Ryan Braun out with hamstring issues earlier in the season? Too bad we can't find a local baseball fan, for whom we could all chip in for season Manatees tickets. Maybe then we could get a report... Whatever happened to the guy from MN who worked in the front office? Internship over? And don't look now, but Angel Salome has been error-free for at least a week, maybe two.
  24. Is that Grant Britton striking again? Or did he actually take that job with the ChiSox? (bf.net still has him as that area scout)
  25. mlb video just announced #7. Are you guys getting a faster feed from the audio only? thanks.
