  1. Wow, pogo, that would be amazing. Commitment like that is what makes BF indispensable. With Capellan and Parra as company, that is some exceptional velocity on the mound tonight. I only hope that JJ's future history (how's that for some critical vocab on historicity and mutability?) is nothing like the other two, but that he makes it to the MLB like Capellan or still has a chance at the same age as Parra. It'll be interesting to see how many pitches they allow him to throw tonight. I wonder how much they prioritize stretching guys out in extended spring, versus working on specific mechanical or mental approaches to the game. It sounds like he'll piggy back with the young French-Canadian, eh? I'm hoping "Bull" is vocal about the gun readings tonight. According to weather.com, it'll be 86 at first pitch, which should help that fastball move.
  2. And if he was driving a Prius, someone would probably say something like, "Did you see Algore driving that Japanese car? I thought he wanted to be the President of 'Merica!" People who are environmentally or socially conscious?
  3. as in The Show on XM? Manatee Insanatee--should have specified, but I'm not an XM subscriber so was unaware of "The Show." Great name for the former radio program, by the way.
  4. Brad Nelson's offense has me cautiously optimistic. It appears that they're hiding him from LHP (4 ABs), which I'm not sure they've done in the past. If anything, it'd be nice to get some value for Brad in a trade, as he doesn't seem to have a role on the big club as a LH 1B or LF. Moss off to a decent start, but I'd like to see him press his way to AAA, in order to make room for Ford to get to BC. Of course, Gillespie and Fermaint aren't forcing the issue in the early part of the season, but here's hoping they do. Captain Lou is a definite bright spot and I'm keeping my eye on Yohannis Perez. It's good to see all of the injury guys throwing: Jones, Harper, Narron, Parra, Perkins--even if to varying degrees of success. Ben Stanczyk is having another mostly unnoticed string of success (perhaps even dominance). Alcides again putting up solid numbers; hopefully Perez regains enough of his Cuban form by mid-June to give Escobar a taste of the Southern League. The Power staff has been surprisingly successful early on, too (sans Mercedes). As DHonks mentioned, Brantley hitting 5th is interesting and his DHing is testament to the incredibly fast and defensively-gifted outfield. Perhaps the pitching success has something to do with Brantley-Ford-Chapman shagging fly balls. Here's hoping Cain and Gillespie and Katin catch fire soon, too. The latter two have had some promising games in the last week.
  5. Some big time love for Mass and BF.net on the show this morn. Comments to the effect that BF is the ultimate stop for all things Brewers and affiliates. Of course, we all know this already, but it is good to hear Mass and all the others receive the deserved laudatory press. Looking forward to the Power on a Monday morning.
  6. For those who have the audio working: is Gameday accurate on Sheet's pitch count? 15 pitches and 12 batters faced?
  7. Wow; BA must think Chapman's power and defense is that much greater than Brantley's OBP and plate discipline. And Brantley's two years younger and a level ahead. He must have been #31...
  8. Good point; I guess I was thinking more about the offseason moves, like Overbay, Sexson, etc. There always seemed at least a mention of something similar to what eventually went down, but that could just be speculative media saturation on the internet, too. And if it went down w/ Mench for Lopez, it would certainly be a well-established rumor.
  9. Which could be Canadian for: "We've been working with the Assistant GM on the Mench/Lieber deal." If it isn't Philly, I would expect it to be some combination of us sending outfielders for pitching to LA or Baltimore. How likely is it that it would be with a team that hasn't been mentioned in any of the recent rumors? IIRC, all DM's moves have had some premonitory leaks to the press; it's been the amount and combination of players that has been surprising. I still think we'd be overpaying with Mench and Turnbow for Lieber, including the salary considerations. Cleveland just payed $4M to roll the dice on Borowski; TBow doesn't look so terrible at ~$3M. Edit: courtesy of snyttri from the "Mench to Bal - DEAD" thread
  10. I agree that this seems like way too much, not just because of the contract situations and our bullpen search, but also because Lieber just isn't that exciting, per the stats on the previous page. I don't see Capellan getting moved (Kiss of Death?), but this also could be one of those DM trying to up TBow's value lipservice move by seeming willing to part with Latin Cappy and being encouraged to hold TBow. That would work for me in a heart beat, though I probably inflate Rowand's value from his "tough guy" on the field reputation. Gavin Floyd?
  11. ...except that it's Maddux, not Maddox, for Mike and Greg.
  12. Might someone with video be able to write on whichh pitches Sheets has given up the HRs? Hanging curve? 2-seemer up in the zone?
  13. Ryan Braun has hit 22 HRs on the season across two "pitchers'" leagues. Yo left after three; the game log has the last play of the third as a ground out pitcher to first. Let's hope it was purely a pitch count decision and not a batted ball. Also, Nashville will have to wait til tomorrow to clinch: they're down 14-0 in the third quarter... er, inning. Brevard may never play again this season at the current postponement rate.

  15. He obviously missed the memo, as he just did it again.
  16. pogo, after looking at it, I can't say it was a bad move, unless you're implying his injuries were from being moved too quickly. In fact, he had his best ERA that season, though he saw a significant drop in K:BB and K/9. I'm not advocating Inman skipping A+, just curious if TC/Nichols have/would consider it. Personally, I think the best way is to give him at least half a season in A+ before thinking of moving him up. In fact, as a Brewer fan, I'm willing take it one start at a time and enjoy his performances however long they last.
  17. Inman has got to be bored with A ball. 4 IP 1 H 1 BB 6 K Have TC/Nichols ever had a high-ceiling pitcher skip a level? (I'm obviously thinking about precedence for Inman starting at AA in '07 here.) I know he had the shoulder barking earlier this year, so he isn't going anywhere this year. Do they repeat what they have traditionally done (like with Yo! this year), or do we see them get "crazy?" I guess there is no immediate rush, with the high amount of SP prospects in AAA and AA, though they vary in quality. Just posing the question...
  18. If Ryan Braun hits .360/.540 for 240 ABs (assuming 4 ABs per game for their remaining 19 games) at AA, does he even start at AA next year? I'm all about success at every level and taking it slow, but I can't help but think about how huge a .900 OPS in the Southerh League is. He still strikes out a bunch (>1:4 AB). If he continues to hit, does anyone think TC would get agressive with him? There's no prospect blocking him (unless you think Rottino is a 3B) at AAA and they've got to stick Heether somewhere with Gamel in Brevard...
  19. Great performances thus far by Garrison, Miller, and Villanueva. Darren Ford now has 29 XBH to go with the gaudy 58 SBs. Now, if he could cut down on the 118 Ks in 427 Abs, that would give us something to get really excited about. Nix with (another) bomb for Nashville and Bad Chad--still bad, but bad with a 3R HR. Edit: Tsk, tsk... etiquette! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. Is he a free agent at the end of the year? He was drafted in 2000, so this will be his sixth full year in the minors. Does injury/DL time effect the six year status? He certianly won't be protected if he isn't a free agent. Such a fall for a former BA #1. All the power is gone; must have been that hamate injury.
  21. It's great to see Omar Aguilar finally make an appearance. If he can get healthy and get back the "stuff" he had before surgery, he's got the chance to be the steal of the 2005 draft. Hopefully he gets out of the media blackhole with a promotion somewhere with some coverage, so we can find out what he's throwing. I doubt it, though...
  22. Brent Brewer with four errors yesterday, giving him 18 in 23 games. I know it's way early and a pretty small sample, but dude looks way lost in the AZL. He's K'ing 25% of the time, too. SoCal mentioned this yesterday in one of the 114 Lee/Trade/Picks/Jack Z threads, but I, too, fear Josh Murray Redux.
  23. I would imagine the splash of signing Gourriel would far surpass the Mercedes and Pascual signings. What kind of money are we talking (I don't know what the Yanks threw at Contreras)? What time of year did we sign Pascual, Peralta, et al, last year? I know there was a thread (I think in the Minor League forum) about the Latin American free agent talent available this year, but couldn't find it through page six. An assist would be much appreciated.
  24. There's a good one going in Savannah tonight. Ferguson with a very strong outing. Gives up only two hits; hard to beat that... The Hurrican really needs to get the bump. You don't suppose he's being held back due to the corked bat episode, do you (pl)? Brendan Katin is an XBH machine.
  25. JDLR for Graffanino? I didn't just dream that? Did I?
