    I've been out of pocket so thanks to all of you who posted on this excellent thread; it was a great way to get up to speed. So I turn on ESPN and there's Karl Ravich with the Coors Lite Cold Hard Facts and he literally says this: "We bring in John Kruk and Tim Kurkjian, John we'll start with you, the cold hard fact, your opinion on the decision." Kurkjian's "cold hard fact" is his view of the "impact on Braun's legacy". Wow they really are morons. It looks like there's no chance any useful information will be reported anywhere on ESPN. At least Kruk didn't repeat the comments he made earlier today (quoted earlier in the thread) so it seems he's backing off at least somewhat. Kurkjian too. They talk about Rodgers' tweets as being "controversial" but don't identify any controversy. And a special bonus; Wilson's dunk in the Iowa game is the #7 highlight and they call him "Ryan Wilson."

    Nice snark by Boswell in the Washington Post: "In LaRussa's postgame version of the snafu, an account that may change with time, the manager says . . ." Carpenter's account of the incident with Nyjer changed, of course, with time.

    I hate to go there, but. African Americans were a bigger part of the Brewers' identity in 08 and this year than any other recent playoff team I can think of. CC (not Counsell, the other guy), Prince, Cameron, Weeks, Nyjer. I can't think of a single significant black player on the Cardinals since Willie McGee and Ozzie Smith. Go back to their 64 and 67 teams and the difference with today is even more pronounced. Is Jay the only black on the team now? Last year I think they had zero. None I can think of on their 08 team. And Phillips and Morgan seem to be the #1 bad guys for them, although they don't seem to like Braun either. But I can't help thinking it has something to do with their attitude.

    So tonight LaRussa brings in Lynn for the sole purpose of issuing an intentional walk. Apparently the Russians are a step ahead of the greatest mind in baseball. Also didn't Zack fall asleep and let Berkman steal a base on him? They were all over that one too. When Yuni is MVP next year who'll be laughing then?

    It's a game. It's entertainment. It's supposed to be fun. Beast mode and and untuckem were fun. So good for them. Untuckem had a charming origin with Mike Cameron's dad. It was Cameron's thing and the 08 team's thing and then everyone moved on and that was fine. Beast mode had a charming origin with Prince's kids and it was his thing and the 11 team's thing and I'm sure next year they'll move on as well. But it was great while it lasted, even in the 8th inning when they were losing. I looked at that as hey we are not out of it yet, let's keep the faith and get something going. Better than moping around and consoling yourself with how much you Respect The Game. I hope there are more playoffs and another signature shtick sooner than later. In the meantime beast mode for me is part of the appreciation thread.

    16+ innings for the Cardinal bullpen in 4 games. And I think this is the first over 1000 post in-game thread ever.

    Wolf shut the Cardinals down at Busch on Labor Day. Not really a must win game but very nice at the time. I told myself that last week too but I think he's matched up better against the Cards overall than the Dbacks.

    Nothing beats Steve Berthiaume picking the Astros to win the Central. I looked back at the 40+ ESPN predictions from the spring and only 1 picked the Brewers, Tigers, Cardinals or Rangers to make it to the World Series (Jonah Keri from fangraphs: Red Sox over Brewers)

    SoCal glad you made it. Sorry to miss you. I was trying to post during the game but blackberry didn't cooperate. I agree with your comments and everyone else's about how dead their ballpark is, that the Brewers seemed loose before the game, how annoying their fans are (they booed Yo, Zack and Ax during the pregame introductions, EVERY check of the runner, EVERY mound conference etc.) When they booed Fielder in the 9th even the Dback fan (and lifelong Phoenician) next to me said "aren't they over that yet?" Good for her; I'm less embarassed to have been born in Phoenix. While the games sucked it was great touching base with a lot of interesting folks. I'm sure my 6th try at finally seeing a Brewer clinch will be the one.

    They/ve announced a sellout although some seats are still available. Some bad weather coming from San Diego but no problem. A couple groups from New Mexico have gotten here although they had problems with the dust storms and accidents.

    319 game 3 and 143 game 4 ... there will be 3 of us in Brewers gear if ya wanna take a look on Tues. Thanks, I'll be by - probably in a '72 jersey (33). I'm 313-17-11. Still a ton of seats left.

    Thanks much phxMILWfan. My wife recommended the light rail too but my motel is less than a mile from the park so I'll just walk. I'll check out Sliders and Cooperstown.

    Braun is NL player of the month and Kemp had a very good September. I think that's a pretty good indication of how it will go.
