  1. I find it interesting that this thread is 7 pages long but has more views than the Braun thread. Who are the people that keep viewing this thread, but not posting? Gamel? Teammates? edit: Hey?! I just noticed that I had over 3000 posts in the old Yuku site, but now it shows me with less than 3000? I guess I'll get to live the magic of my 3000th post again at some time in the future.
  2. I believe what Old City was referring to was that even though Braun may be "innocent" in that he did not knowingly put PEDs in his body (he wasn't a "juicer"), the MLB policy regarding this is pretty clear in that players are responsible for anything that goes into their body, regardless of how innocently it got there. They have been pretty consistant with this policy in previous rulings and I don't think the union would have any grounds to sue or file a grievence based on that. I think it's more likely that a greivence or lawsuit could be filed in regards to the leak of information in this case.
  3. Yeah, unfortunately, I would also have to agree that this is how things will probably go down. It would be nice if MLB would say these are the facts of the case is this is the reason we are suspending him, but they will just say that Braun failed the test and the suspension has been upheald, leaving Braun to explain the situation to the public. The general public, outside of the hometown fans, never believe the player. It almost seems like in this case, since MLB was responsible for leaking the news on this in the first place that they would have a little more of an obligation to explain the results and back up Braun's story (guilty or not). It sure seems like with the information that has leaked so far and the time it is taking that it's not a cut and dry situation and there are some grey areas with this case. I know it's far fetched but perhaps Braun's attorney stated to MLB that we will not file a greivence or come after MLB legally if, suspension or no suspension, they are willing to "cooberate" (spl? where's the spell check on this site?!?) Braun's story to the media and perhaps the extra time it's taking is the process of working out the details of that agreement. Just a wild thought.
  4. We always stay at Legacy golf resort which is south of Phoenix (also not in the greatest of neighborhoods), and when we go to Surprise we basically take 10 to 101 to Grand. I don't mind the drive at all. Maybe it has to do with how much you drive in general. I put 20,000 miles on my car every year so I'm use to driving a bit more than the average person. Or......could also be that I'm on vacation, the sun is shining, it's 75 degrees, I'm with my family, we got tunes playing, and we are heading to a ball game!
  5. You mean like wind speed, noise level, etc? Not trying to be a wise guy, and maybe I don't understand the complete dynamics of the tests, but I just don't understand what conditions could be variable from test to test. Maybe the tester was a Cardinals fan, and the unfathomably high test results stemmed from someone "spiking" the sample. Maybe the person who was supposed to clean the sample jars forgot and Braun's sample was in a jar was recently used by someone from the WWE. Maybe someone had a lot of money on the series, and paid someone to tamper. At some point, a human has to be involved in the testing, so therefore there could be human error (or malice) involved. Maybe not likely, but possible. Yes, however, how could they "recreate" any of that? Ask a Cards fan to test him? Ask someone to spike his sample? Use an "unclean" jar from a WWE wrestler? What would any of this prove?

  7. I guess I don't mind Maryvale at all because I hate crowds Also, I'm just going to go where the Brewers are playing anyways. I'm not going to watch another game between two other teams because I don't like Maryvale (don't really understand that concept?). We don't stay near Maryvale, but I find getting around Phoenix to be pretty easy, even during rush hour (love the car pool lanes!). So, the fact that there are not places to eat around Maryvale does not bother us at all. I absolutely hate games at HoHoKam (Cubs site). Overcrowded. We generally like to sit in the OF grass at the games. Fans at HoHoKam don't seem to get the idea that their bodies are not transparent. There are always a handfull of yahoos who will stand at the wall in the outfield. A security person will go and half heartidly shu them away and tell them they have to sit down. Soon as he/she walks away they are back at the wall standing up. Half the people never see one play in the game. I realize it's spring training and it's about socializing and soaking in some sun, but why spend money on a ticket? I'm sure there are other places in AZ where you can sit outside, socialize, and enjoy a drink. The other park that I don't like is the A's park...no outfield berm. I'll agree that some of the other stadiums are very nice, but I still don't think Maryvale is that bad. edit: I also like that at Maryvale you can go early and watch the minor leaguers (and sometimes the major leaguers) work out on the auxillary diamonds.
  8. Really? My family and I have been going down to Spring Training every year for the past 9 or 10 years (with the exception of last year) and I always thought the criticiszm of Maryvale was way overblown. We go for a week each year and go to every Brewer game (home or away) while we are there. We have never had any issues at all at Maryvale and while the surrounding neighborhood is not great it's not like it's East St. Louis or Chicago's south side or something like that. Maybe I'm naive, but I have never felt in danger at all while driving to the park, nor have I feared that my car would be stolen or broken into while at the game. edit: By the way...where is the spell check on this new site?
  9. Thanks for all of the advice. I have not had time lately to look into all of this but I will. Someone at work also suggested a site called treadmilldoctors.com for treadmill reviews, etc. I really wish I would have checked out this thread yesterday when the treadmill was on woot!
  10. I think those guesses are way low. At least 100. It's already at 64 without any real news. Imagine when we actually have some facts to talk about!
  11. I would have to agree with this. By the way RockCoCougars, I'm one of the "dots" on the field in your Avatar.
  12. Love some of the reader responses in that article, especially the one about half way down with the "Ghostbusters" GIF.
  13. Well..it probably is true that this will be the perception and I think Rosenthal clearly states that he didn't think Braun got special treatment. Rosenthal makes these statements in his article: I would argue that the program is working regardless — Braun is entitled to an appeal and should be vindicated if the facts support his argument. I also would argue that baseball, by pursuing this matter with obvious diligence, already has demonstrated its willingness to treat its stars the same as lesser players. Well, let’s see what happens; neither I nor anyone else can form a proper judgment based upon the information currently available. I see no evidence where Rosenthal is trying to slant the article against Braun. It seems as if you are just not a fan of Rosenthal in general and that might be causing you to read more into this article than what is there.
  14. Here is the article you are referring to: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Ryan-Braun-Bud-Selig-Major-League-Baseball-PED-drug-testing-appeal-braun-case-shows-MLB-not-star-struck-on-enforcement-021012 I really did not take away from it the same thing that JohnBriggs did. Just the opposite. I think Rosenthal is saying that many are going to accuse MLB of special treatment and/or question the drug testing policy as a whole if Braun's suspension is overturned. I think this is true. Rosenthal then goes on to say that he believes that Braun was not afforded any special treatment at all and that it appears that MLB is doing everything they can to try to uphold the suspension.
  15. So now all the reporters are finally realizing that the 25 day thing is just a guidline. Thanks to Brewerfan and this thread, I knew that a long time ago. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif
  16. Yeah but what I don't get is this statement in the article - A Major League Baseball source said Ramirez's representatives indicated they would fight a suspension for using artificial testosterone. I don't remember if he ever did "fight the suspension", but my question is if that was even an option? Once a decision is made on the appeal (or the player drops his appeal, like Ramirez apparently did) isn't it over and the player is then out of options for "fighting the suspension"?
  17. So, I was thinking about the Manny Ramirez case when he was suspended. My thought was that he appealed the decision but I was also thinking that he appealed after the news was released. I didn't remember it being a "leaked" story like Brauns was, so I was wondering how he could have appealed it after the decision was announced. I found this article from when the news of his suspension was first released and it was a bit confusing. In the 6th paragraph is states he would fight the decision (don't know if he ever did or if he even could) and then in the 13th paragraph it states that he had a scheduled appeal that he withdrew from and then just accepted the suspension. So, the story somewhat contradicts itself. My understanding is once the decision is made after the appeal, the player has no recourse.....correct? Also found this article which is a good indication of how hard it is for a player to overturn a suspension. If the part about MLPA telling players that all over the counter products would be safe and it turns out they were not, then it almost seems unfair.
  18. FYI - Listening to WTMJ and they stated that the ESPN guy that broke the Braun story will be on shortly with "latest developments". Of course "latest developments" could mean absolutely nothing new. edit: As suspected...he provided nothing new.
  19. Looking to buy a treadmill. Looked at consumer reports and I was a bit shocked at what a "top rated" treadmill costs (as much as $4,000). We don't want a second hand treadmill or a "cheap" one. We have done that in the past and have been dissapointed (we have two in our basement right now that we will be throwing out to the curb). Went on the 2nd Wind web site and was expecting to see "deals", but it did not seem like the costs were much different that that of new treadmills. Not looking to spend more than $2,000 and would actually prefer to keep it below $1,500. Would like some "bells and whistles"...i.e., different programs, heart rate/calorie monitor, perhaps even some sort of connectivity to the internet to monitor progress and keep a "log". Saw a commercial the other day for a Nordic Trac treadmill that looked pretty nice and seemed "reasonably" priced on their web site. If anyone has any thoughts or advice about Nordic track tread mills or any other treadmills it would be greatly appreciated.
  20. I know that and I wish I would have posted the Lance Allen "25 days" thing in the Off Topic "What's bugging me thread" instead of this thread. It just bugged me that Lance Allen said "25 business days" and then stated a date that was inconsistant with that statement. I'm assuming that Michaels is basing this purley on the 25 days thing and really has no more insight that we do.
  21. True. This is a leap year and things can get pretty confusing.Yeah, that's not the point though. The 20th would still not be the 25th "business day". The 20th would not be a business day at all because it's President's day. February 29th would be the 25th "business day" since the hearing began on January 26th. The difference between business days and regular days is really not that confusing. I realize that none of this has anything to do with Braun's situation and everything I read states that the 25 days (whether they are business or regular). This is just one of those things that bothers me for some reason more than it bothers others. If you are going to use the term "business days" in your report than at least understand what that term means. Just realized I had the wrong starting date. The hearing started in the 19th (not 26th), so the 25 day would be Feb 12th and the 25th business day would be Feb 22nd.
  22. Oh boy do I feel your pain. My wife usually leaves for work before me and I have been the one to get our son going in the morning since he was 3 or 4 (he's now 13), whether it was to day care then, or school now. Not sure about you, but I'm not a morning person at all and it doesn't take much to set me off early in the morning. My poor son has been yelled at by me in the morning over the year over some pretty small stuff....the eating with the mouth open...oh yeah, I know where you are coming from there. I think the frustration comes from the fact that while I'm running around the house getting everything ready together to get out the door, he's just sitting there eating his cereal, watching tv, ...not a care in the world, no concept of time. For some reason, I want him to be a little stressed out like I am. Not sure why.
