  1. As someone already stated, Hart is a bargain for the next two years if you look at the recent FA signings. However, he is only signed through 2013. If the Brewers do not extend him before the end of the 2012 season, they will have to start thinking about their options with him. Trade him while they can get some value in return? Extend him?...at what cost? Again, part of what makes him so valuable is his relatively low contract. If it takes something like $15mil per year to keep him beyond 2013, then suddenly he does not seem like such a value.
  2. That's gotta be the case. If teams could still bid, they would know what the Brewer's bid was and just bid higher. Not sure about that. How reliable is the Japanese source that first reported this? Sounds to me like news coming from there is not always reliable. Also, as late as November, someone had projected the winning bid to be $10 million. I would be surprised if it dropped all the way down to $2.5 million. My guess is that the Brewers will be outbid by someone. I very much doubt it also, but now may be the time for the team to move Braun (if they feel that is the team's best long-term interest) as he won't have very much "leverage" after being suspended for 50 games. I really don't think Braun will lose any "leverage" with the Brewers. I think people are way overstating the effect of a possible 50 game suspension on Braun's future. Geez, some people are even talking about trading him? Really?
  3. So, watching TMJ4 morning news today and they had "breaking news" regarding Braun. Turns out this breaking news came from TMZ (which I consider kind of like the National Enquirer) and states that sources close to MLB are saying that the positive tests were a result of medication he is taking for a medical condition. If this is correct and I understand the rules correctly, if he did not inform MLB that he was taking this medication he will likely face a 50 game suspension. Again this is from TMZ, so take it for what it's worth: http://www.tmz.com/2011/1...ation-baseball-steroids/
  4. This is kind of why I question him not taking the $16 million for one year from the Cubs and then taking his chances on the FA market next year. Although, he did pass the Brewer's physical.
  5. Well, I'll definitely agree with you here (although, I might add the word significant in front of talent and drop the "without overpaying" part) and it's one of the main reasons why I think MLB has issues, but that's a debate that has already been had in another thread.
  6. That's not a very fair statement to make.Well, it's my opinion. Yours may be different. Hopefully I'm proven wrong should Morgan's playing time decrease next season.
  7. Human being? Has nothing to do with being a human being. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. If I contracted an STD through carelessness or was fired for breaking a company policy, I really would not expect anyone to feel sorry for me. Not everyone that has a disease is a victim.
  8. Really? Call me selfish, but him having a STD does not effect me as a fan at all. I'm not trying to lend any validity to the STD rumors, but it would be hard for me to feel sorry for him (or anyone) either way since he could have taken steps to avoid either one of these. If it was something like cancer, or parkinsons, or something of that nature vs. being busted for PED's, then I could see your point.
  9. Aren't you also concerned about the length of contract as well as the amount? K-Rod only has one year at whatever he gets ($12 mil perhaps?). Ramirez is at 3 years. Prince will most likely get at least a 6 year deal and possibly closer to 7 or 8 (even though it sounds like he want's 10 - not sure he'll get that). You can't just compare the contracts by adding K-Rod and Ramirez for one year and comparing it to Prince.
  10. I thought most cheaters had a STD? Ba dum bum....thank's folks! I'll be here all week!
  11. Perhaps some of the reports are coming from this guy:
  12. Yep, mentioned that in the same paragraph you quoted. Oh..sorry..didn't see that.
  13. So, couldn't he A) take the test again showing he is clean then B) have a witness(es) watch him take the medication then C) take the test again to show that it will yield the same results as the initial test that showed elevated levels of synthetic T as a result of taking the medication? That would not explain the elevated synthetic T levels.
  14. Just because someone get's caught doesn't mean that baseball has problem's. There are pretty strict laws and punishiments (including death in some states) for murderer's. Yet, people still do it. If no one was convicted of murder for a year, would you think that it's because of the strict laws or because of ineffective law enforcement work? Don't you think if they went several years without any positive tests in baseball that people would start questioning the effectiveness of the tests? In the public's eye, I'm guessing that many would view it as surely someone has to be cheating, not just the occasional fringe minor league player that seems to get caught every year around spring training. I look at this as a way for MLB to say See, the drug testing is working and the cheaters are getting caught.
  15. Maas Haas first brought up the Katin situation in post 469. In fact he, Katin, was interviewed on MLB network on xmradio on Monday night and they stated something like "this story was pointed out on a brewer fan site". I have seen other references to this particular story and siting Brewerfan as the "origin". Nice work Maas Haas.
  16. I think it would be safe assume the buyout and consider it $36M guaranteed money over 3 years. In other words, what are the chances the Brewers are going to pay ARam at least $16M in 2015 (assuming minimum logical, since no details). My first thought when I saw what type of steep escalation on salary was what kind of no-trade protection is built in. Could be the Brewers are out of it in 2013 and someone needs a corner infielder..... I guess the more I think about the comfort of a 3 year guarantee it makes some sense. However, if he really had confidence in his abilities, couldn't he have taken the $16 million from the Cubs this year and then signed a similar contract next year that basically would have netted him $52M over 4 years instead of $36M over 3? I understand that given his age, the chances are less that he would get a similar contract next year, but you would like to think that players that you sign have confidence in their abilities. Makes me think that he's worried he won't have a good season this year, so he better take the money while he can.
  17. Looking at the Brewer schedule this morning. If I counted correctly the 51st game of the season is at LA. Assuming the suspension is not overturned...do you think the reigning MVP will be welcomed by the fans there? The next game is at home against Pittsburgh...so here's to hoping for at least one rain out during the first 50 games. Also, he would still be eligible to participate in Spring Training....correct?
  18. Very true. My first job out of college was as a franchise auditor for a well known national real estate company. My job was to visit regional franchises and make sure that they were adhering to the franchise agreement and properly reporting all of their sales to the regional office. I felt a bit of pressure during each audit to come up with something just to prove that I was actually doing my job.
  19. Yes, and I'm sure Morgan will readily accept the decreased playing time and not create any clubhouse drama because he's all about the team.
  20. I still find it odd that he turned down $16M to stay on the Cubs this year to sign a 3 year contract for "only" $32M (plus the possible $4 buy out).
  21. Per Ken Rosenthal so he's only costing the Brewers 6 million in 2012, not 12 million. http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23MLB Terrible deal from Brewer perspective. They will be paying $16 million for him when he's 36? Yes, but if you consider that Braun will still be a bargain at $10M in 2014, it doesn't look as bad when you put them together.
  22. What is meant by $6M deferred in 3rd year? $6M from years 1&2 deferred to year 3? $6M of the $16M in year 3 deferred to some future year?
  23. I have tried to watch "Any Given Sunday" on several different occasions (because it seems to be on cable a lot). I think this weekend was my last attempt. I just find it unwatchable. Seems like the scenes just randomly cut from one to another. Odd close-ups. It just doesn't flow well at all to me. Did this film get good reviews from critics? I don't get it. Of course, I didn't get Black Swan either. What was the point? That her life was mimicking the play? My wife and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes when she physically started to turn into a Swan.
  24. So....he turned down an option for $16 million but the thought is that he would sign with another club for $11 or $12 per year? Did he just miscalculate the FA market?
  25. Didn't he make something like 11 or 12 million last year? I doubt he's taking a cut. He had a pretty decent year at the plate. This had nothing to do with what happened over the weekend. Before that story broke the Brewers were the frontrunner and then said there would be no talks with Ramirez over the weekend. This was coming regardless of what happened to Braun. Why did you quote me when making that comment? I didn't suggest that this had anything to do with what happened over the weekend?
