  1. What would make this story even better would be if Flores had committed an error to let the go ahead run score...but interestingly enough, he is not in the lineup today.
  2. Cheater's proof literally "raining" down on the Mets today. They had a 2 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th inning and then there was a rain delay (45 minutes I think). Came back and choked up 3 runs. Now losing 8-7 and in the middle of another rain delay. Ha!
  3. Other way around. People thought there was a deal just because it was reported by someone on the web/social media, and not announced. Ahhh, I get it. Yeah, ok, I'm a little slow sometimes.
  4. I have a Chase credit card (It's a Southwest card) and whenever I go to the Chase web site, the log in page has a picture of Milwaukee in the background. I'm curious if this is because it knows where I am located, or if it's the same background they use nationally. I have seen them use two different Milwaukee pictures as background. The current one is the entrance of a walking bridge near the river walk. (south of the freeway looking north east towards down town). You can check it out for yourself by going to Chase.com - Note, I just tried it and now it's a different picture that I'm not sure where it is (someone sitting on a blanket on a patch of grass behind a building)
  5. LouisEly, are you saying that you don't believe the deal is dead?? Not only did I read it on the internet, but I have seen quotes from both GMs saying that the deal is dead as well as a video of Alderson talking to the press stating that the deal is dead.
  6. Just because someone biking is frustrated by walkers and runners on the path, does not mean that the right thing to do is go on a road that has no room for bikes and ball up traffic (and the way people drive on Canal, I can't honestly believe that it's safer for bikers to ride on the street there). I get frustrated with other drivers on the road, that doesn't mean I have the right to ride in the emergency lane in order to avoid them. There is clearly a place for bikes on Canal and a place for cars. I will respect the rights of bicyclists when they respect the rights of motorists.
  7. Warning: Don't read if you have a weak stomach http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/cardinals-tv-contract-billion.html
  8. I realize he is a FA after this year, but if I'm another team solely focused on making a trade to get me to the playoffs this year, I'd rather have Parra than Gomez.
  9. Tried to catch up on this thread and sorry if someone already posted this Haurdricourt article: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/brewers-trade-carlos-gomez-to-mets-b99547452z1-319704111.html Haurdricourt is reiterating what others are reporting that it was a medical issue with Gomez that nixed the trade. A couple of interesting tidbits from the article: -HIPAA laws prevented Brewers general manager Doug Melvin from commenting on anyone's physical issues. Seriously? I guess we should never know the reason guys are on the DL then. -Melvin: "We're happy to still have Carlos, and he'll continue playing for our club." Either that's Melvin's poker face or he realizes that now Gomez will be almost impossible to trade.
  10. A year a half of Gomez leading us to under .500 ball and a hit or miss pick is better than a pitcher that would automatically be or best pitcher and a hitter who is 23 and was a top 80 prospect most of his time in the minors. That makes no sense. The draft pick wod be lucky to turn into flores. When you trade your number one available asset and your major league roster wasn't improved in 2016 and your top 10 prospect list hasn't changed, you didn't make a good trade. I would much rather have 2 guys who we know can play in the majors now, then a 2017 comp pick who may never make the majors.
  11. Occasionally, because of Zoo interchange traffic, I will take canal street home from work, drive around Miller Park, and get on the freeway at Mitchell Blvd (this helps avoid a lot of the back up on some days). Anyways, if you are not familiar with Canal Street, there is a wide "sidewalk" that runs along the north side of the street from 6th street all the way up until a little past 35th street (then it continues on the south side of Canal St. and eventually passes back under the street). This is the Hank Aaron state trail built specifically for hikers, runners, and bikers. However there have been times when I have witnessed bike riders using the street and not the path. Canal street is a 4 lane street (two lanes going west and two going east). For the majority of the route between 6th street and the stadium there is no "buffer" between the two middle lanes (very dangerous to stray over the center line at all) and absolutely no room between the outside lane and the sidewalk. There is basically just enough room for cars. Because of the zoo interchange construction, this has become a heavily used street during afternoon rush hour. So, when there is a biker for some inexplicable reason using the street instead of the extra wide path, traffic in the outside lane basically has to stop until cars can find an opening to get around the biker. I can't for the life of me understand why there is a small percentage of bikers that would not use the path that was built specifically for them?? I honked at a biker doing this the other day and he gave me the finger. Seriously? You are mad at me because I want you to use the path that you are suppose to use and not put yourself and drivers in danger? Can some avid biker on this site enlighten me as to the reason a biker would want to do this? BTW - I hope its obvious that when I say "biker", I mean "bicyclist"
  12. Gas tax. I believe Wisconsin has one of the highest in the country. Some friends of my wife live in Marinette and everyone that lives there goes to Menominee when they need gas. Actually found this on Wikipedia (as of July 2015 - updated from my edit note in my previous post). It appears MI gas tax is more than WI. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_taxes_in_the_United_States $0.543 (MI) vs. $0.513 (WI)
  13. Went to a 50th wedding anniversary in Menominee, MI this weekend. Gas was $2.03 per gallon on Sunday when we left. In Marinette (1 mile away) it was $2.56 per gallon. Also, the odd thing was that the $2.03 was for the "low grade". Mid-Grade (in Menominee) was $2.95 and High grade was $3.25. Quite a difference. Someone I work with suggested that the difference between the prices in Menominee and Marinette might be because of different state gas taxes. This could be (not sure what the difference is, if any, in gas taxes are between the two states). However still don't understand the huge difference in prices between the different grades of gas. edit: Just did a little research on state gas taxes. Found a state by state map for 2014 gas taxes. It was $0.413 in MI and $0.329 in WI...so unless there have been some big changes in the last year, the difference in the current price per gallon is even more confusing.
  14. When I read the title of this thread, I was just thinking most exciting play in general (not to end a game). I would put the final play of a no hitter at the bottom, unless maybe it's a great play. The last out of a no hitter is more about the pitcher's achievement in general..the play itself may or may not be "exciting". The other three are all equally exciting to me with maybe a slight nod to the two defensive plays. To me, plays at the plate, diving plays, robbing HRs, and other great defensive plays are the most exciting in baseball.
  15. I think that was meant to be taken facetiously.
  16. I definitely remember this. I also remember that the Reds had the best overall record in baseball (by a good margin) and did not make the playoffs because they did not win their division in either half. That was also the year that Fingers won the Cy Young and MVP (if I'm remembering correctly?).
  17. Have been keeping track of the leader board on the The British Open official web site. It's 3:49 Central time and it shows that players are still on the course and their scores continue to update? I thought they were 6 hours ahead of us. How could they still be playing at 9:50pm?
  18. Knowing what you know now, I urge anyone who still holds Braun in high regards to go on You Tube and re-watch that press conference. It's cringe worthy. Its one thing to make mistakes or have a lapse in judgement. Everyone has done things they regret. However, when you get away with something that you know you did and then have the nads to throw it back in everyone's face with a "See, I told you so" press conference and talk about how everyone is out to get you, that's another thing all together. All he had to do is release a message stating that he was glad with the result, he's glad it's over, and he's looking forward to focusing on baseball. Instead, he basically doubled down. I don't hate Braun, I just lost a ton of respect for him in regards to that whole situation. Also, I'm annoyed by some of the posts that suggest that people are taking it personally. I'm not taking it personally. I don't have to feel personally hurt by someone in order to have a low level of respect for them.
  19. First round leaderboard at the British Open (I refuse to call it "The Open") currently has 2 amateurs within 2 strokes of the lead. One of them is Jordan Niebrugge from Mequon at -5 (2 off the lead). There are lot of players shooting low scores today.
  20. From what I have heard, he was loudly booed at the all-star game (in an NL stadium). So, it doesn't appear that "nationally" most people have forgotten.
  21. I also didn't tune in until the semi's and also found the "bonus time" confusing. It didn't seem like it followed the format described here at all.: https://twitter.com/MLB_PR/status/615245144833544192/photo/1 It seemed like it was a 30 second bonus if you hit one (maybe two?) farther than 420 feet (not one minute). I also don't remember seeing the clock stop in the final minute of rounds when a HR was hit. I did like that the pitcher had to wait for the ball to land before making another pitch.
  22. Soccer in Miller Park the same night of the baseball All Star game.
  23. Didn't see most of it because I was in the back yard watching storms roll in, but caught most of the semi-finals and the finals and thought the new format worked very well. It was entertaining when the clock was winding down and the guy was 1 or 2 HRs away from his competition. Fraizer's win in front of the home crowd with an HR in the waning seconds was fun to watch. I can't think of a sporting event that I wouldn't watch based solely on who the announcer is. If it's something I enjoy, I could care less if Yoko Ono was announcing. Also, I don't think the HR derby is that easy to announce. There are only so many adjectives and superlatives you can use to describe a baseball flying over a fence.
  24. I completely understand that and agree. I'm actually all for trading Lucroy, Gomez, Lind, Braun, whoever. At this point, I think the Brewers should completely tear down and rebuild and will be disappointed if they don't make moves in that direction in the next 2 or 3 weeks. However, unlike many others on this board, I also believe that eventually you have to "go for it" once those acquired prospects start producing (hopefully!) on the MLB level and you are just a piece or two away from the playoffs. Instead, I always get the feeling from some that they would rather trade away those producing (once prospects) MLB players and continue to endlessly build the minor league system. It's as if they like players when they are prospects and would never trade them away, but then lose interest in them if and when they ever become producing MLB players. When you are in a position to make a run for the playoffs (which, again, I agree that the Brewers are not anywhere close to being at this point), I'd rather have proven talent on my MLB roster than unproven talent in my minor league system.
  25. +1. Hopefully these comments go a long way towards encouraging a trade sooner than later. It leaves a black hole in the organization but if it brings back a possible future ace its worth it. Yes, a possible future ace that many on this site will want the Brewers to trade when/if he hits his prime. We don't want any proven players, we want guys that may some day become proven players so that we might be able to someday trade them for more guys that someday may also become tradable.
