  1. I was very surprised when he came back out. Have plenty of bullets in the pen, didn’t need to press him for 3.
  2. Hard to say the dropped fly ball didn’t create the walk, trying to be careful and pitch inside. Thanks, Mitchell. Guess you just let Pantone wear one now.
  3. He’ll go back down today regardless of outcome. They’ll get another fresh bullpen arm up for Friday since Pannone would be down for 4 days. Maybe not DFA right away, but first guy out if/when they need more roster spots. I am interested to see if they give Wagonner a shot, he’s been lights out in AAA, and needs to hit the 40 man this offseason anyways.
  4. This may be naive on my part, but there’s simply too much to lose for games to get cancelled next year. Baseball has not been this big in decades, a true lockout into April and beyond jeopardizes so much growth. Both parties would be insane to let that happen.
  5. Yeli would sure bring more value if he could pick up a first base mitt. Was a primary 1B in high school, but that’s a long time ago.
  6. Bauers available to pinch hit and no IL stint. Big sigh of relief.
  7. Safe to say this caught them off guard based on Black, Adam’s, and Quero all in the AAA lineup as of 45 minutes ago.
  8. Would imagine that Lara will be starting every day now if Buaers hits the IL with his fractured big toe.
  9. Talk about sunk cost fallacy… he doesn’t need to contribute as a an every day DH with a 4 man bench. If he’s not contributing when he’s in the lineup, you don’t keep putting him at DH because he “HAS to contribute” there. You DH him a few times a week, and the rest of the time he’s a pinch hitter. You still have 5 guys that play OF, that doesn’t change. He's played 70 games, that’s exactly when he heated up last year. You give him a few more weeks to figure it out, then you need to seriously consider changing the lineup strategy. I have no issue with Murph talking him up and sticking with him to this point. If we’re in the same spot production wise in late August and there’s not been any meaningful changes to his playing time and spot in the order, then I think we should all have a huge issue with it.
  10. The scary thing is, Yeli still has 2 years left after this. If Murphy remains unwilling to bench him in a pennant race this year, I wonder if that’s an indication that he’ll simply be penciled in for the next 2 as well. If he doesn’t turn things around, and there’s no real reason to believe that he will, that will certainly hamstring this competitive window.
  11. I think Bauers should not see any OF time in the playoffs. For him to be there a couple days a week in the regular season isn’t ideal, but oh well. And if that means Yeli hasn’t shown life by then, he sits. The best lineup currently has Turang, Chourio, Mitchell, Vaughn, Lara, Bauers, Pratt, Contreras, and Ortiz in it. Come playoff time, Hamilton is a pinch runner, Yeli/Sanchez are late game platoon matchup pinch hitters, and Perkins/Sal/Lockridge are pinch runner/defensive replacements after PH situations.
  12. They don’t need to acquire a starter to option Sproat to AAA. The can do it today, and line up everyone to start on normal rest with Harrison going next Tuesday after his Thursday rehab start.
  13. That’s one where you have to just run through the pitcher if he’s in your way.
  14. For the last 7 years we’ve been holding our breath to avoid a Yeli IL stint. Now, it seems like that’s the best case scenario as he’s not leaving the lead off spot without one.
  15. Neither am I, but it should have absolutely zero to do with Sproat.
  16. I don’t get this sentiment. Sproat could go down as soon as tonight, with the day off Thursday and Harrison almost back. For a SP to make the playoff rotation, they’d need to outperform Drohan, who has a 3.5 and has been putting up 6 innings consistently. It needs to an Ace (Skubal, Ryan, etc) or nobody - why waste the capital on a guy that won’t crack the playoff rotation? Sproat is just biding his time at this point until there are 5 healthy above him within the next week.
  17. Sproat doesn’t need to help them reach a world series this year. He needs to eat some innings and be left off the playoff roster.
  18. Bauers is not a good OF, and should not play an inning there in the playoffs.
  19. I could see this actually becoming more of a trend. The new NCAA rules allow for 5 seasons of eligibility in 5 years. So a Junior like Knaak actually has 2 years left. So next year, he doesn’t have no leverage like college seniors previously have had. He can still go back again, theoretically. He loses some value being older, but there’s nothing stopping teams from putting 5th year senior pitchers in AA right after the draft.
  20. For the short-ish term, it makes more sense to try to trade Frelick. Frelick is arb eligible this off season, while Lockridge still has 2 pre-arb years left. Have to think they’re competing for 4th OF at best, with it possibly being 5th OF with Bauers.
  21. Brewers legend, Lance McCullers
  22. Friedman has the luxury of being able to hoard prospects because he can throw any number he wants to free agents. He can have the Tampa/Milwaukee philosophy in the minors, and the Steinbrenner philosophy in the majors. Hard not to win when you get the best of both worlds.
