  1. I would imagine it’s multiple fronts. The agent has some leverage - steer players away from clubs that “abuse” (I use that term very loosely) arms. Organizational reputation amongst players matters, again for FA purposes. Media can be worked by players and agents. Analytics probably say that using guys on short rest and going through lineups 4 times are bad strategy. And at the end of the day, an organization wants to reasonably do what is right for the player as well. The days of CC 2008 usage are all but over.
  2. Gotta get him into scoring position so the K brothers can swing at sliders 9” out of the zone.
  3. He also has a 4.81 home ERA in Colorado and a 2.57 on the road for the season. Getting out of Coors should be very helpful for him.
  4. Would rather give 5 lambos away for 1 helicopter than 1 lambo away for 2 GMC Terrains.
  5. It is possible to hold multiple thoughts at the same time. The Brewers front office is elite. This particular trade seems like a major overpay. Baseball front offices may have very different grades on Frias than publications do, and we may be making too much of this. This could be a nothing trade, or could really hurt in a few years.
  6. I certainly hope that you are correct. I really do. But the numbers say that May is not better than our top 4 starters. Maybe the Brewers staff have some tweaks in mind that changes that, but our top 4 starters have been damn good - it’s a high bar to clear. As for Romero - he’s medium leverage with Hall, Ashby, and Patrick. And he’s on the IL. I’m not sure that’s anything to write home about.
  7. And the chances of that being May who is arguably the #5 starter and an injured left handed reliever that is not named Aroldis being that difference maker is incredibly small.
  8. 1. The chance of May and Romero contributing to a ring feels extremely low at this point. That’s what makes this hurt - it’s not the needle moving trade that you can swallow giving up prospects for. The Brewers are still further away from the Dodgers as they were 3 days ago, and the Phillies and Cubs have improved more. 2. They’re not really 11 and 13. Frias is Top 100 in several updates, and Ragsdale is shooting up the organizational list as well. Theoretically could be selling high as their value has spiked recenty, but it’s a ton to give up for guys that don’t move the needle to winning a World Series.
  9. Not 6 weeks ago a lot of folks on here were saying Lara was overperforming big time compared to his batted ball profile. And he just kept doing it, and is now performing pretty well for a rookie in the bigs. Saying Ragsdale is definitively overperforming is very disingenuous.
  10. This price is certainly closer to what the Dodgers paid than the Brewers return is to what the Dodgers gained.
  11. I think the Brewera internal evaluation means less than whatever the other 29 clubs evaluation is. Because if they value him anywhere near the ranking publications, this is still an overpay even if the Crew thinks less of him. You don’t have to give up a red hot AA OF and a top 50 prospect for May and an injured relied pitcher. Only this makes sense is if the entire league believes Frias is nowhere near a top 50 prospect.
  12. How is he the Brewers 3rd best starter now? By what measure? Drohan and Henderson both have better FIP, WHIP, ERA, ERA+, K/BB, etc. Essentially all 3 the same in Stuff +. I don’t see how May upgrades the roster for the postseason.
  13. I don’t think that means you make a very poor value trade, just because they’re blocked.
  14. This is such a horrible trade. May isn’t even going to start a playoff game. He’s not better than Drohan, who is the current postseason #4 behind Miz, Harrison, Henderson. This trade is actually disgustingly bad.
  15. I’ve seen a lot of stuff about prospect outcomes, specifically call backs to prior brewers top 10 guys that have been moved. All of those were in significantly weaker brewers farm systems. Do you have any data on prior years top systems that might compare better to this years brewers version, and the hit rates on those?
  16. Sabathia also was coming off of 6 consecutive 180+ inning seasons. I tend to think that front offices don’t baby pitchers innings early in their careers for fun - they would rather their best guys go more. Of all of their medical teams and analytics say that pressing too far beyond innings counts leads to more injuries, I have to default to believing that. They have infinite more information than we do, and way more information than they did in 2008.
  17. And that goes directly against the folks upset that Miz was scratched the day before the all star break and that Drohan was scratched yesterday. CC was running on absolute fumes. That’s fine - the goal in 2008 was to get to the playoffs for the first time in 26 years. If extra rest is what is needed to get the starting pitchers at their best in the playoffs, so be it. These guys are young and haven’t had these workloads. Is it cautious and frustrating when the division is still in play? Of course. Would it be far more frustrating to have an IL stint and/or poor performance in October due to fatigue? Of course.
  18. To be fair, his outing today wasn’t exactly leverage. Down 1 in the 6th is the definition of middle relief.
  19. Call me an old man yelling get off my lawn, but I’m so sick of Contreras and Chourio not running out ground balls. Especially double plays, where one bobble would mean they’re safe if they actually showed any effort.
  20. No shot at the out, but if it wasn’t his bag, he’d have been going behind. I’m wondering if they were anticipating Susac to go opposite field and thus it was his bag against the righty? It looked very strange.
  21. I was very surprised when he came back out. Have plenty of bullets in the pen, didn’t need to press him for 3.
  22. Hard to say the dropped fly ball didn’t create the walk, trying to be careful and pitch inside. Thanks, Mitchell. Guess you just let Pantone wear one now.
  23. He’ll go back down today regardless of outcome. They’ll get another fresh bullpen arm up for Friday since Pannone would be down for 4 days. Maybe not DFA right away, but first guy out if/when they need more roster spots. I am interested to see if they give Wagonner a shot, he’s been lights out in AAA, and needs to hit the 40 man this offseason anyways.
  24. This may be naive on my part, but there’s simply too much to lose for games to get cancelled next year. Baseball has not been this big in decades, a true lockout into April and beyond jeopardizes so much growth. Both parties would be insane to let that happen.
