I wonder what the most team hits in a game with only 4 batters recording a hit is? I don’t think the brewers are anywhere close, but it’s interesting have 10 hits by only 4 guys.

The good ol’ youth baseball tournament 5 games in 2 days strategy. Only start him once they change the Win rule to not have to go 5 innings as the starter.

I’d consider rolling out Ashby for the 9th. Walker, then two lefties due up.

Miz having a “bad day” is 7 innings, 3 ER, and 11 K’s. Sanchez’s bad day yesterday was 3.1 innings, 9 ER, and 1 K. He’s simply on a different level.

Miz going 7 is big. Should have a ton of options in game 2, and still have some left for tomorrow if they can shut the door and end this in 9.

It was insane to let him in the 4th. Could’ve hit Vaughn and had him now have 2 against lefties with RISP and still have 3 guys on the bench for the rest of the game. Especially when you’re probably not hitting for your 8/9 spots today given the defense.

And, you’d now have a 2nd AB for Vaughn with RISP vs a lefty.

No doubt it is right now. But that’s why you play him every day right now. Took him a good month to get going in AAA, adjusting to a new level. Even harder to do so in MLB. If he’s still OPSing .550 in mid August, I’ll be quite worried. But I think that’s why you deal with it now, with the presumption that wont be the case with enough time to adjust.

I think we need to give Pratt more than a few weeks to adjust to MLB pitching before we doom him from being able to contribute in 3+ months.

Not really. You don’t need to burn 2 guys as you can put Bauers in OF. Guys you’d normally consider hitting for in a big spot in Ortiz and Pratt are sort of untouchable today with the lack of defensive options beyond them. With that, I think it moves up the timeline to consider pinch hitting.

He doesn’t look tired, velocity is still right there, and location is not suffering. I think it’s just big league hitters making big league adjustments. Miz came out swinging this year, he’s just now getting punched back. Now he needs to counterpunch, which I have no doubt that he (along with Hook/Henderson) will.

Start the game with not scoring from 3rd with 1 out, giving up a HR on a Miz Cutter again, and misplaying a fly ball. And this is the game they’re geared up to win today. Yikes.

Do any of the sites track team percentages of stranding runners at 3B with less than 2 outs? The Brewers feel so pathetic at this lately, but I’d love some context to know if the league as whole is just as bad, or if they truly do stink as much it seems.

I would love to see the 3B depth chart between Greg Jones, Andrew Vaughn, Sal Frelick, and Tyler Black. Talk about your murderers row defensively.

I think it would be ideal to stay away from Chad Patrick today too. After 2 inning yesterday and the shaky results recently, it would be nice if you can give him a day and let him keep stacking successful outings for a bit. He’d be my 8th guy, in case of emergency today.

My speculative guess: they think there’s a small chance Hamilton goes to the IL. If he does, they have no problem DFAing Jones if they need a mid to long term replacement. If it’s just through the all star break, they may just trust Joey and Pratt and have Vaughn and Frelick as emergency options before having to DFA Jones. -

Because this isn’t a video game, and the brewers are conservative in their approach to brining up prospects that aren’t under extension and don’t need to be on the 40 man yet. If those injuries take place, it’s Jett/Adams/Leonard/trade. Guys that have to go on the 40 this offseason and have AAA experience. That’s not to say that they’re better prospects, but it’s almost certainly what would happen. -
Realistically, they must DFA Kuhnel and bring up a starter that can provide length out of the pen. They need a piggy back game tomorrow or Tuesday where they give the full pen a day off and go Drohan + whoever for all 9. They cannot survive this stretch point what they’re doing.

I really don’t think it’s a roster issue. I think it’s a 6 man rotation issue. They should have 8 in the pen, not 7. That makes all the difference in the world. I get that they want to protect the arms of the SP, but they’re doing it at the expense of the bullpen and winning games.

Kuhnel DFA coming asap. They must’ve really not wanted Koenig to go back to back days. This 6 man rotation is decimating the bullpen and chances to win games. Very poor decision by Arnold and Murph.
