  1. Like, ever? Pretty difficult to run a team that way. As for the Cubs, Vogelbach is a DH so no thank you, but I would start by asking for 4 of their top 10 prospects (however Milwaukee values them) for sure.
  2. Johnson was booted when Flores came on board. Flores had his brief stay at #30 ended by Cecchini. Of course, any list that has Ponce as #30...
  3. If any of the recent transactions are underwhelming, this would be it.
  4. The Brewers are the dregs of baseball in terms of major league talent, like it or not. And you can be negative about Cecchini all you like - there's a good chance that he won't make it. But there is a plausible chance that he will, and this is exactly the type of move the Brewers should be making right now.
  5. The Brewers could play Josh Donaldson at third next year and not come close to making the playoffs. That's not the point with this move. Cecchini was highly regarded in the very recent past and the Brewers gave up nothing to see if he just had a bad year last year. Maybe he does end up sucking and washing out in AAA. Doesn't matter. The Brewers are in the position to see if he can put it back together. If he does, great. If not, oh well.
  6. I've heard his brother's name pronounced with the "chick" for the first part. So at least that's what MLB Network people are going with.
  7. I'm sure Mass Haas will expound on this in a little bit, but the Brewers made the following selections in the AAA phase of the Rule 5 draft. These players are now Brewers property on minor league contracts and do not have to offered back to their original clubs. Mitch Lambson, LHP, selected from the Braves Kender Villegas, RHP, selected from the Cardinals Via this Joe Block tweet, we learn Lambson was traded from the Astros to the Braves in the middle of last season, so there's a Stearns connection. The Brewers did not make any selections in the AA phase of the Rule 5 draft. (The Marlins were the only team to make a pick in the AA phase.) And the Brewers did not lose any players in any phase of the Rule 5 draft.
  8. This is also a great way to use excess cash, granted they're probably not sending the Red Sox a ton of money. Plus seeing the many and various ways his name will be spelling-butchered is bound to be entertaining.
  9. I like this move a lot - glad they traded for him as opposed to trying to claim on waivers.
  10. Brewers infielders (excluding catchers) combined for 154 walks last year.
  11. MLB Pipeline has his fastball as a 75 - that's plus-plus and then some. Appears to lack any sort of breaking ball and control is a problem. One great tool though, so he has a chance.
  12. That's not correct. I'm not sure if there's a max, but as far as I'm aware you can keep drafting until you pass.
  13. Maybe they should take three guys. As long as they have the open 40-man slots, why not? Increase your chances of getting a guy to stick by taking more than you normally would. Just bring in some minor league vets on NRIs and if the Rule 5 players don't work out, you can play AAAA players in Milwaukee instead.
  14. I think the opposite is true - the farm system has built up enough depth that more depth isn't going to move the needle over the long haul. All three might end up flaming out in A-ball, and the Brewers won't really be effected by it as they seem to have a stream of arms set to hit Milwaukee over the next 2-4 years. If one of them really does figure it out, great. If you pick up a guy like D.J. Peterson though, you more or less know what you're getting. It looks like his upside might be as a serviceable first baseman in the near term, but does he help Milwaukee win a championship? I tend to doubt it. I'd even argue that any marginal value he'd provide in the near term would hinder Milwaukee's chances of getting a better draft pick over the next few years. And of course he could turn out to be the next Josh Donaldson too, but I am assuming that Milwaukee's pro scouting staff made a determination that he likely won't.
  15. That very well may be the case, but that also banks on Lind being healthy between now and the end of July. Which was mostly the case last season, but last season is the outlier. A bird in the hand...
  16. Also on the bright side... the team just got worse next year. Better draft pick in 2017.
  17. And only 14 position players.
  18. Exactly. The MLB Pipeline top 30 rankings are about as far from the be-all end-all as possible. I'm more interested to hear what BA thinks about it when they update their Trade Central with the transaction.
  19. That is entirely incorrect. I am 99% sure that they were all international free agents not subject to the draft.
  20. Luis Gohara and Gareth Morgan would be pretty great. As an aside, how many trades has DiPoto made since becoming the Mariners' GM? Seems like it has to be a dozen by now.
  21. I have no doubt someone will dig this up in five years.
